Patriot Viper 4 Series 16GB (2x8GB) 3200MHz/3400MHz C16 DDR4 RAM - $127.39/$143.32 + Delivery (Free w/ Prime) @ Amazon US via AU

970

Doing a little bit of shopping for parts and ran into this killer deal.

Don't think I've seen anything cheaper for a 3200MHZ or 3400MHZ C16 DDR4 16GB RAM set than this before.

the top ones have gone and been replaced with something else. remember .au purchases enjoy some amazon protections - .com purchases via .au are a furphy. You cannot speak to the seller .com., you cannot get price protection, you can only return which takes weeks.

      ram may need returning….

  • Would these fit in the techfast PCs?

    • There's no different size slots for desktop RAM it's just the one standardised slot size, so yes.

In Amazon page it states "Viper 4 series DDR4 for Intel x99 and later platforms.", and reviews did suggest issues when running on AMD platform.

The only potential gotcha is if it's a Ryzen based system (particularly 1st gen). It'll still work, but you may not be able to hit the rated speed of the RAM if these DIMMs aren't in the mobo's QVL list.

Most of the Ryzen issues come with the first generation. The issues were that the memory ran at slower speeds.

  • what would be a good value ram for 8GB or 16GB to go into a NUC8I3?

    • +7

NUCs can't fit these!!! They only take SO-DIMM modules (Laptop ram). Depending on what you're doing but I can't see you using more than 8GB personally.

      • thanks! i will add sodimm to my search for ram….yeah i3 and office work. 8GB will do.

looking like around $600 all up for NUC8i3 + 250GB nvme + 8GB of ram.

When there is a 20% off eBay discount going, find one with SODIMM DDR4-2400. You want dual channel setup. I went for 2x8 (16) as I picked the i5 NUC.

Chomping at the bit here. I was looking at upgrading my ancient i5-750 (O/C at 3.6Ghz), with a Ryzen 2600 last year, but memory prices held me back. ………..I must resist, and wait for the new Zen 2 ones to be released in July, hoping memory prices will continue to drop or stay the same with higher speeds.
