HP Sprocket 200 Photo Printer - Black/Noir - $128 (Was $178) @ Officeworks

190

I've been keeping my eye out for the new models of the HP Sprocket printers to go on sale. Lo and behold, while scouring the clearance section of the Officeworks website late last night, as one does, I found the black model discounted to $128 from $178. Sure, I was really after the White/Luna color.. but I'm not about to argue with a $50 discount. OzBargain represent!

How is the print quality of this model?

    Thanks for sharing!

From my ridiculously extensive research, the print quality is better than the older Sprocket models, and also better than (and cheaper regarding zink paper refills) than the Lifeprint photo printer I was briefly considering. The photos can come out a little dark or washed out depending on the photo you're printing but the app that goes with the printer allows you to adjust the brightness/saturation easily (along with other photo editing features). All in all, and I research the heck out of products before I buy them, my money is literally on this being the photo printer to buy. :)

https://youtu.be/uB0uSQdeZeg is a good video for reference.

      • Hi, thanks for your response. I'm definitely in the market for a new printer I just can't seem to decide. I have the sp2 and Canon Selphy cp1300 so I would like to try something else. I have considered the HP sprocket 2in1 but I'm not sure about it because of people complaining about print quality.

Do you know much about Canon Ivy?

        • +2

No problem. :) Ooh, the Canon Ivy came up in a lot of the photo printer comparisons/reviews that I found. It was another I considered but I hadn't been able to find a good price. The white and mint green version is super pretty. Canon Ivy appears more popular in America than the HP Sprockets. From what I can tell, the Canon Ivy prints slightly warmer toned whilst the HP Sprocket prints slighty cooler toned. Quality wise.. In some comparisons/reviews the Canon Ivy looked better and in others the HP Sprocket looked better. 50/50 really. I'm not helpful at all, haha. ^_^

@Leviiathan: Your help has been great! I've been eyeing a new printer for While now!

  • Just out of curiosity, what is the usage of 2x3 inch prints?

    • I have an A5 Filofax binder that I've setup as a bullet journal so I use them, or will be using them, for creative journalling/memory keeping. I'm definitely looking forward to not having to cut up photos and then faff around with glue! :)

The old version is $99 @ JB in case anyone is interested. Also comes with free paper as a promo.

Thanks for posting this deal OP! I had been looking for a photo printer last year but got put off by reviews that lamented the print quality. It was easier not to buy something when it wasn't on sale and of questionable specs (and of course not needing one), but now I'm more tempted by the price and your "ridiculously extensive research" as testament.

I wasn't actually aware of this new HP Sprocket 200 - how does it compare to the old Sprocket? Also, how does it compare to the Sprocket Plus, separate from the Plus' larger print size and non-sale price of $178?

    • You’re welcome. Haha! :)

Well, I now can’t find the photos I found that compared the old model to the new model. From memory they seemed a bit sharper with the new model but I don’t know that THAT much of an improvement was made technology wise. I think it can only go so far at the moment with zink. If a dozen different photos were laid out, I probably wouldn’t be able to tell which was printed with the old model versus the new. If you like white and copper/rose gold, I’d consider the old model that’s currently listed at $99, otherwise, the black has additional perks - better battery and improved Bluetooth connectivity.

As for the Plus, apart from the print size being larger, the technology is the same.. I think. A few articles spouted that it was ‘improved’ but none ever specified how. Resolution remained the same and there were no changes to specs that jumped out to me as being improved. To my eye, the bigger photos depict more grain but it could be that I’ve been staring at way too many photo prints when I was trying to make up my own mind. ^_^
