  • I watched a Unbox Therapy and he said there are two versions of this phone. One with headphone jack and one without. I think this one is without headphone jack.

    • Yes, the Mi A2 Lite has the headphone jack, the Mi A2 does not.

    • +5

they are 2 completely different phones

      a2 lite
      sd625 / adreno 506
      3/4gb ram variants
      sd slot
      headphone jack
      4000mah batt.
      notched 19:9 display
      plastic top/bottom frame
      smaller size
      thicker
      lower spec camera
lower build quality you can feel with pressing button

a2 is unibody aluminum at 7.3mm thin

  • Hi All. How would you compare this phone to Nokia 6.1 or Zenfone from other deals?!My wife needs new phone and I don’t know which one will be the best value for money?

    • Nokia 6.1 or Zenfone 4 has NFC, and Zenfone 4 has b28

    • +3

If important for you, Nokia 6.1, Zenfone 4 and Sharp S3 all have the desirable NFC & B28 missing on this phone. Deals available for each on OZB. Samsung S8 & S9 have these features as well. You may consider seeking out one of these 'as new' on ebay/gumtree/phonebot.

I think I'm the only person on this site that thinks this, but an IR blaster is essential. That's why I went with the A2 rather than any other Android One phone.

Saves me from searching for my remote all the time, or when I go to a foreign country and I can't understand the remotes in the Air BnBs.

      • +2

Yeah, and the A2 comes with a fairly capable remote app straight out of the box. I live metro and dont really notice the lack of B28.

Very capable phone, the wife likes it. Its a great deal at this price.

      • +2

I'm an IR Blaster preacher too, I'm still holding onto my Galaxy Note 4 waiting for the perfect replacement.
I refuse to "upgrade" and not have an IR blaster.

Everyone uses their phone to control Plex, Kayo etc. why would you want to use a separate remote to turn the TV off, or change volume, inputs etc……crazy to take it away

If this has a 4000mah battery I'd buy it.

        • I was tossing up between the A2 or the Redmi Note 7. Both have IR blasters.

I chose Android One over the bigger battery.

I really do miss the big battery is my previous Redmi Note 3.

If you're not fussed with the OS, get a Redmi Note. But check the bands and all that other stuff first.

      • +1

I love IR blaster too, my previous phone were galaxy s4 and LG g4 and both had it. Then both Samsung and LG decided to drop it on the recent phones.

        • Alright. I stand corrected. I'm not alone in this. Prior to jumping aboard the Xiaomi train, I had Galaxy S phones. The IR was good, but the software was terrible. This was about 8 or 9 years ago.

Xiaomi's remote app has a huge range of remotes. It's fantastic. And it works great on my old Samsung S4 Mini that's still kicking around.

  • Would you take this or redmi note 7 at the same price?

  • Crazy good value for the price, it's a shame they went with 3000 mAh battery, wish it had a 4000 with headphone jack and SD.

How crazy would this have been then!

    • It's a great phone, been using for a few months now. Was worried battery would be an issue but it isnt. Given I am not a power user, but I do use my phone quite a bit throughout the day. I can go for a sleepover and not worry about charging it over night and still have enough juice till I get home the next day.

      • Yeah I'm sure the 3000 mAh battery is still decent, just even so spoiled by the Note 5, it's hard to go back down.

Really excited to see what the new Poco and Mi A3 are going to be like.

But at this price I might actually get a Mi A2 as a backup phone.

  • This phone is almost identical to the new Google Pixel 3a.
However, that costs >AU$650 while this is only around the ~AU$200 price. So yeah, same phone but x3 cheaper.

    • Huge camera difference and I'm sure Google has fined tuned software a lot more than Xiaomi. Not to mention the processors are better, slightly but still better

      • +1

You can install a port of the Gcam to the Xiaomi devices. Granted the Pixel will still perform better though.

The QSD 670 is actually a little bit inferior to the QSD 660, but definitely faster than the QSD 636, and definitely slower than the QSD 675. Though what sucks heaps is that they aren't using the Samsung flash (USF 2.1 or 3.0), instead using a Chinese flash drive (emac 5.0), and there's a huge efficiency and performance downgrade with that decision (it does save them $2 per phone though).

As for the software tuning, I wouldn't put much stock into this.
Right now, the GoogleOS is pretty bad with lots of issues from the Pixel 2<->Pixel 3XL not properly fixed. Samsung's devices have a lot more bloat, but their OS seems to be much more polished/stable. I would recommend a Custom Rom for any Xiaomi and Pixel owner that's capable.

Still, the point stands, the new Google Pixel 3a costs x3 times the amount of the Xiaomi Mi A2…. but clearly it isn't x3 better.
(in fact, they're very similar devices)

        • -1

if U buy Mi A2, you can probably resale in 100 bucks after 10-12 months. But pixel you can’t resale in half price

        • don't forget OLED vs IPS screen, cheapest xiaomi with an AMOLED is the $500 mi 8-

        • -2

…costs x3 times the amount of the Xiaomi Mi A2…. but clearly it isn't x3 better.

Who said it was? Weird correlation.

    • However you do get stock android with the pixel 3a which many people values

      • +1

This is stock too. The A series is full fledged stock. It's a question of how long is xiaomi going to update it for.

  • +1

Great phone, broke mine last weekend and replacement parts are insanely cheap. Might've been better off just buying this though… No B28 is not a factor because on Kogan, never had NFC on any phone so I don't know what I'm missing. No headphone jack isn't as big of a deal as it's made out to be, an adaptor is $2.

    • +1

Even adapter is included in box. I got mine in box

    • +1

haha you never know how handy NFC is until you actually have one on your phone!

  • -3

Would never buy this brand of phone ever again, in less than a year the Mi A1 phone turned to absolute shit.

    • How so?

      • It would crash out of apps and ask to leave feedback etc, It would lock up often and would chug something terrible, I hard reset it a few times and it did nothing, Also I like how I get down votes for speaking the truth…

        • I didn't vote either way, but I was curious to know what the problem was, since my GF still uses my old A1. No trouble there. Maybe she's just lucky, or you were unlucky.

I have similar stories about my Moto Z, shittiest phone I've ever owned. Battery lost so much capacity, it was almost unusable after about 1 year, manufacturer service abysmally bad. Glued together in a way that the screen died when a battery replacement was attempted.

          • @team teri: I knew phones would slow down a bit and lose some battery life but this was ridiculous, I ended up selling it to cashies for $50 and upgraded to a Huawei mate 20 pro which I'm really happy with and got it for a bargain.

I got mine from AliExpress last months deal cost me $198. Got free cover and headphone adapter as well. Delivered in 9 days. Phone is too good compare to the price..

    • +1

      Aliexpress link?

    • +2

I would like to know which seller you got it from too. Please provide more information.
I bought 2 x sharp S3 from Banggood. It was shipped out on the 9 April and I am still waiting for it to arrive into Perth.
I am getting tire of waiting for such long transit time. I am already looking at buying another one from another seller with quicker transit time.
I have bought some phones from Aliexpress and they are good with shipping time into Perth (average 2-3 weeks).

      • I got mine in 9 days after they shipped , and they took 3 days to process the order, may coz of Easter holiday . main thing is I order always from this seller. so I advice you to order always from same seller. that way you can maintain relation with seller. they give you best product with free gift and faster delivery and less processing time. you can choose your own seller if you don't like the link below. the phone price is change now, I got with cashback offer. but if you read the review of this seller you can see that everybody surprise for delivery time.

        here is the link

        https://m.aliexpress.com/store/v3/home.html?shopId=2178148&s…

      • they clearly saying on BANGGOOD 25 working days, to deliver. so that's count as 5-6 weeks. so you should be getting by 17 may next Friday. by the way if you get that Sharp S3 let me know in the comment how s the phone coz I m planning to buy that. is it worth to buy It ?

  • Just bought Nokia 6.1, but want this one instead now.

    • Both good phones for under $300, even better for these prices here now.

    • I had the miA1 but bricked it with a custom rom Soo now have the Nokia 6.1 it's pretty good especially having NFC

  • I legit paid for that about 5-10 hours beforehand for $235 :(
