WD My Book 8TB External HDD $239.20 + $15 P&H (Free with eBay Plus) @ Computer Alliance eBay [AU Stock]

For those looking for an external powered USB hard drive, this 8TB WD 3.5" My Book seems to be a good price for local Australian stock with the coupon. If you're willing to take a US plug/warranty, there have been cheaper deals circa $220 on OzBargain before but I think the price difference with this at $239.20 (+$15 shipping if you are not eBay Plus) isn't too bad of an Australian tax.

For those looking to shuck, here is one post on Reddit which describes the drive: https://www.reddit.com/r/DataHoarder/comments/8lxrzj/8tb_wd_…

Should you decide to purchase this from Amazon.com.au you can always have Western Digital send you an Australian plug if you email their support centre.

They send it out for free no charge to you.
Also Warranty is also handled by Amazon.com.au even if this is sourced through Amazon.com provided you bought this directly from Amazon (not another seller).

This is a good price for those who want it now (shorter postage wait) and want to deal with a local business for warranty issues.

I heard of that but didn’t really know how to go about it to get the power plug. Is there a special phrase to use or do you just ask?

No, you just email their support centre and mention that you have received a US Plug and require the AU Plug. There are no hoops to jump through and I was not asked for any proof of purchase (partly, due to speaking with a CR on the phone) however they might so just provide them the Tax Invoice from Amazon and it should be fine.

They will then ask you for your address information and it should be delivered within 14 days (maximum). But is generally delivered within 7 days.

  • Just to update the thread on shipping times, it arrived via Startrack this morning at 9am so 3 business days. Not bad.
