Fined for Parking in Front of My Own Garage Which Is on The Back of My House

I just got fine by parking in front of my own garage.

Just wondering if it is illegal to park on your own driveway which is on the back of your house?

Here is location image from Google Maps.

  • How could the ranger know it is your driveway or other people drive way. I dont think you can park on the drink way no matter it is yours or not

    • Thanks I just did not know. As I just moved in the property and see other people parking like this.
      I normally park inside.

This was just one of the lazy day that I would not want to drive in and out many time and I got fine for that.

    NO STOPPING

Do you have lots of valuables in your house ?

    • NO STOPPING is on the other side. if you can see there are other car parking where is no indicator of no stopping sign.

We're you blocking the use of the footpath or driveway on council's side?

    • As on the image, I parked on the back of my own garage with the roller door. There is no footpath there, except on the right hand side.

They dont care if there is foot path or notb you are obstructing the drive way

      • Ah. I imagined a suburban curbside parking.

You're obstructing an entrance. It doesn't matter if it is your own.

Best case scenario, ask for leniency and admit you made a mistake.

You’ll find it’s illegal to park and block the footpath

Where is a footpath, there is no footpath on the left hand side of the road.

Didn’t look at the link so I just assumed.

Try writing in for a review. Worst case you get another 3 weeks to wait before the fine is due.

pay the fine and park there again and get another fine.

Yes, it's illegal to block a driveway, even your own.

    • It is different. My driveway is on the back of the house and it is not on main road which I can block anyone.

      • +4

It's a road. No blocking driveways applies.

  • There was no parking sign further up the laneway

    • Yes this is my point. Other side road have the sign. But not mind

  • Just wondering if it is illegal to park on your own driveway

Doesn't matter whos driveway it is, the law is the law.

Take it to supreme court and sue the council for a paper ticket allergy.

They are doing you a favour in a roundabout way. Better then trying to leave your garage and having somone park you in. People park infront of my gate and it drives me nuts.

Silly post, check, new user, check, posted on automotive sub forum, check, TB made an appearance, bzzzzt

I am starting to think that I am the only one that doesn’t have a troll sock puppeteer account…

    • The other posts are in a different driveway through. They all connect to the main road.

My one was on the back street. I would though it treat differently.

      • I was actually just looking at the Google link you posted (because you have actually replied and not just trolled), and that is crazy how that street is set up. Why the (fropanity) is there parking there at all??

The whole street is very narrow and it's either "No Stopping" or it's a garage door every 2m…

If it is your own place, it would be worth disputing. But like others have said, the ranger doesn't know if that was your car parked there at the time and just ticketed it.

I do dispute now and will let you know how it go.

I wouldn't leave my address (back or front!) on an internet forum, even in the form of a google maps link….

    • Bikies…..

    • Actually it is not my address, just the close by

  • It is illegal to block a driveway

Other reasons for this law include keeping the footpath clear of obstructions, allowing other cars to use the driveway for turning around, and ensuring emergency services have easy access to the property.

    • Only the last one applies in this case… So presumably it's illegal to lock your back door or park on your driveway. This rule is so retarded…. Only in Australia

      • Do you really want the Government to apply a different law for every possible scenario? Come on man… a driveway is a driveway.

        • That's how I see it. The ranger just sees the car parked there and doesn't know who owns it. They are just ticketing robots after commission.

All the ranger would have seen is "driveway" + "parked car" = "write ticket"

      • Why doesn't "allowing other cars to use the driveway for turning around" apply?
It's not illegal to lock your back door, and it IS illegal to park on your driveway.

  • Huh….I guess that's one reason to not live in a shared house or apartment because you have to deal with silly parking inspectors….

    • I am living in the house and park on the back of my property. I guess driveway is a driveway. laws is a laws.

Just silly though I got book cause blocking my own driveway.

      • …a house that's not shared with other people and you live in it all by yourself?

Regardless parking does look pretty small…….
