I can't recommend the UBP-X700. I had one, from JB HiFi, and it would more often than not lock up entirely - regardless of whether it was reading a DVD, Blu-ray, or 4k Blu-ray - and lock up to the point where it also took down the TV and AV receiver. Nothing short of a full power cycle of all pieces of equipment would restore it to working order, and often only until the player started and locked up again…

JB didn't agree there was a problem, initially, but they did refund it on my second attempt. I bought an Xbox One S instead, and have had no further issues whatsoever.

  • I have the Sony but have only watched a couple of movies on it so far..but no problems yet..although i left it on pause for a long period last time and it shut down so i had to skip through scenes to get if back to where i was up to..maybe theres a way to change this but I haven’t checked yet..not a fault just annoying..

  • Does this upscale normal Bluray into 4K and HDR? How does this work?

If I remember correctly, there is like "output settings" that can be set AUTO1 for native signal and AUTO2 for upscaling the signal.

Yeah, crazy cheap for a dolby vision player. Had to buy one.
Now excuse me while my significant other berates me for my lack of self control.

  • Thanks OP, got one, $231.40 delivered.
If anybody is interested, I phoned JB for a price match, they came down to $250.00, may be an option if you are close to a store or don't want to wait for postage.
I will use the $18.60 I saved to buy one get one free 4K Blu ray deal JB have going at the moment.
