  • Great deal if you don't mind the terrible UI.

    • whats terrible about it?

      • I'm loving the UI on it? Did come from a 10yr old samsung plasma admittedly.. but nice and responsive, app layout probably not as nice as flagship lg and sammy, but i only use Netflix and YouTube which have dedicated remote buttons

Can always plug in a Vodafone TV if that's a concern.

  • Would it be naive to request a price match from TGG?

    • +2

I’d be very surprised if they did. I think all the majors won’t price match ebay sales.

      • Yeah I tried to price match a tv at TGG, JBHIFI, and Joyce Mayne during the last round of 20% sales…. None of them wanted a bar of it. I would have preferred to not pay for postage although in the end the ebay price came in way cheaper than what the other retailers could get to and that included postage.

I tried JB, Bing Lee and HN last week for the B8 which was $1704 delivered via Appliance Central - no bites. JBs “staff price” was $1900 so I just went with A.C. Not close to the historic low but good enough for me.

No complaints, they shipped it next day and I got it the following day all ok.

The only weird thing was the courier didn’t call to organise a time to drop off/make sure I was home, even though A.C specifically emailed me to get my number for that purpose.

Told the courier as much and he was like “they didn’t pass it on”

Looked at the my copy of the delivery slip later:

          “Deliver to:
          [My Name]
          [My Mobile Number]
          [My address]”

          Lol. Sigh.

          • @Occas: Mine was a similar story. I went with the 55P7 from Videopro (Delivery was cheaper with A.C but they only had silver colour). I got notified that it was coming b/w the 10-14th so I arranged with 3 different members of family to be home on each of those days and did an extra shift at work so I could be home on one of those days. On the 1st day of the month it turned up out of the blue.

The young driver dropped the thing out of the truck onto the drive with a thud then attempted to slide it because it was to heavy for him. Luckily I hadn’t left for work and was home to accept it. I’m not complaining because it came early but some communication would have been nice. I’d have been furious if I wasn’t there when it came.

            • @RoosterBooster: Jesus that’s average! How is the P7 overall? Good bang for buck?

              • @Occas: Its pretty impressive, made more so by the fact its my bedroom tv which replaces the 13 inch ugly, bulky no-name one I had. In general, most tvs have poor FTA picture quality and poor sound. However I'd say the sound is slightly above average and does a better job than any other in the same price range.

Picture quality is quite amazing and I'd also say it matches/if not beats out all others in its class. I did a lot of homework before committing, reading various sites. Every time I'd see a bad point I'd rule that tv out but then I thought how many positives the Hisense had. The small number of critics didn't matter then.

Sure its not the best tv you can buy, but I don't have the budget for whatever one that may be and I concluded that this is the best one for my needs (and the best value). Add in the 3 year warranty and I couldn't be more pleased with it so far!!

            • @RoosterBooster: Yeah i have shocking luck with couriers where i live claiming no one was home when they didn't even turn up. Get everything delivered to work now. Appliance central uses hunter express which have some crappy contractors (i guess all couriers do), have a look at their neutral feedback.

Good experience here, just very slow to dispatch t.v.

              • @wozz: I've had some shocking couriers too. But when I shop online I do like when I find somewhere that uses couriers as AU Post don't deliver to my address (apart from envelopes). As such I'm forced to go to the post office to collect which is 30mins away.

    • They will probably price match against the price jacked price

This tv keeps on teasing me. Because nobody really shared information about it, and the people that do don't really have the same use case as me. No reviews (hell not even any user reviews). No specs about the things that matter, such as peak nits in HDR content. The few people that have owned one that i've spoken too don't get, or care about the technical details. Like refresh rate when not at native resolution.

So I'll be skipping it. Simply because there's no information.

    • Some good reading from Whirlpool, I have not read the whole discussion, but check it out and see if it can help you to answer your questions/queries…

      • +1

Yeah I read that already, none of it tells us the specs, nits, even response times. There's one guy that has it and he's not even got any 4k content and has a 200 dollar pc. Can't get anything from that.

        • -1

Hisense TV's don't get reviewed from any reputable sources that do extensive testing like rtings etc etc.( I think they have 1 LCD on on there from 2018)
So you'll never get that information. You're basically going in blind with them, generally that's ok since they're a cheaper brand.

          • @bert-lifts: Blind unless someone like me gets one first and shares.

    • My parents have one - do you have any suggestions on how to test?

They have a 4K Chromecast Ultra plugged in and the 4K content from Youtube looks spectacular. Like REALLY good.

They have it in a really bright room and today I was watching a few things from Netflix (only have the FullHD subscription though) and at no time did it feel like it wasn't bright enough.

If you can point me to anything to use to test the HDR or nits I'd be happy to do it.

      • I didn't find 4k content amazing tbh.. only tried 1 movie so far.. was ok but not incredible detail, probably because of some of the image processing i still havent turned off.. hate the smoothing soap opera effect, that was first to go

Waiting on same price for 65" OLED, 2 years?

    • +2

Nah. 75” in four years. Go hard or go home.

      • +2

85" in eight years will be harder

        • You forgot 16K..

      • +2

LOL what? If you want to go hard then you should buy the 75" OLED now. Waiting for 4 more years is not going hard.

  • +2

    Must resist.

  • Anyone know what HDR standard it supports, the website is vague

    • HDR 10. The nits are a concern, people say it's not the brightest screen. Could affect HDR poorly. It uses an OLD LG panel, possible 6 series. Other than that they are purposely not telling us NITS.

      • You guys NITS picking again ;-)

(What? Never seen a dad joke before?)

  • I cant use the code PHONO though appliancecentral is listed on discount post.

    • Have you used it five times already?

  • Just got me the 55P7 two weeks ago. Damn. I don't know

  • How are these new Hisense?

I got a nice 4k one a couple years ago, just as 4k were kinda starting, and it was a huge mistake. There was about a 150-200ms input delay with every single game console, no matter the HDMI cable, HDMI port, or settings. It's now a super expensive Netflix box in the bedroom… And that's Netflix through Fetch TV, because the OS hasn't been updated since 2015 and no longer supports apps…

    • +1

Excellent for gaming with gaming mode turned on. With gaming mode off i wouldn't even bother

  • If it uses a old LG panel from the 6 series Would it be more prone to burn in screen ?

    • I think it's all about equal. It's just some have better protection software.

      • Ok the problem is hardly any people bought this tv so we have very little information on their burn in % rate

  • +3

If these come down to 850-900, then it might be worth the drawbacks. But since 1.2k is still only a few hundred off a 8 series on a bargain, it's not worth the risk without someone on here actually finding out the technical specs or doing their own testing with some degree of technical knowledge.

    • My logic too

      • Yeah if you care about technical specs that's your best bet. I just love the picture on it,deep blanks are amazing. No issues at all with brightness in my living room and i dont care about hdr.. watch most movies on 120" projector so this is just for tv and Netflix mainly

        • Fair enough. I'd be the same if all I did was watch tv. But i can't help but love the combination of games and oled. And games need all those specs, the difference between functional HDR, or fast/slow input becomes quite important. But SDR content and as long as it's bright enough to actually see, I think simply getting ANY oled is going to be the best.

  • This is expired..

    • The same kind of deal is coming up a lot for this tv. So expect it again at perhaps a cheaper price.
