Game of Thrones S08E06 *SPOILERS*

Finale of all finales! What did everyone think? I personally thought the ending was very “game of thrones” but it seemed a lot of the arcs were a bit rushed. I would have preferred if they spent a bit more time fleshing some of them out.

Too much to cover for 1 episode, bit cheesy in some parts. Felt like watching Phantom Menace which incidentally came out 20 years ago today…

You could feel the rush all over this season,

The writers bailed on GoT for Star Wars, HBO offered them another 2 more seasons but they turned it down, thus they destroyed my Queens arc because they 'ran' out of time : (

Hopefully there will be a GoT movie where Drogon finds a way to res Daenaries back so then they can come back and finish off the Starks with the Unsullied & Dothraki

There are videos on YouTube with fans rewriting the last season 7-8 episodes in a more GRRM way, and less D'and'D way.

And (un)surprisingly these are much better and fleshed out, despite written in a few days, as opposed to 2-years which the producers had.

I would suggest watching some of these which will probably pop-up in the coming days/week. I am not sure if GRRM is going to survive the next years/decade and actually release the finale of the ASOIF books. However, I think many people are interested in reading it and seeing the major differences between the two medium's stories.

Bran. The Steven Bradbury of Westeros !

    • Someone is all over the memes!

  • Now that Game of Thrones is over, someone needs to start making a tv series based on Fevre Dream. That would be sweet.

  • my marriage lasted longer than game of thrones, that in itself is feat

    • Did it last longer than The Simpsons?

  • Loved it sick. Whole thing felt like a metaphor for right now and it was spot on. Humble nice guy works his ass off and doesn't get the throne. Oppressed woman rises and fights and works hard, emerges victorious only to have a last straw moment and just loses her shit , goes nuts and burns it all to the ground, only to be murdered by the nice guy in his last straw moment. Guy who literally does nothing the entire series parachutes into the top spot. Doggo was a good boy until the end. 11/10.

Season 8 was terrible and the end was pretty bad
    IMO

    rushed

    made no sense

    Forced drama

    poor writing

i reckon RRM gave them the ending and they just had to do a decent job writing it but they couldnt stick the landing because they rushed it for quick cash the coffee cup in episode two and bottle of water behind the chair in episode 6 highlights what a poor job the directors and writers did

Bran Stark being king also makes as much sense as Dany going crazy for no reason - he literally says he doesnt want to be a lord 2 episodes ago!

Jamies Character was pointless…..Cerse breaks down before she dies however in earlier seasons she was prepared to kill her child and self when facing death WTF happened? Dany is a shining example of a good leader for 7 seasons save everyone from the white walkers then last min decided to turn into a dictator?

BUT THE MOST UNBELIEVABLE MOMENT JON kills Dany in ealier seasons a women he loved was TRYING TO KILL HIM with a bow and arrow but he still wouldnt harm her, he was nothing but Honorable in ever episode but in this one he kills Dany in cold blood without warning? Jon is so Honorable he wouldn't even lie to Cerse in season 7 regarding the north not marching against Kings landing if they joined the battle against the night King but all of a sudden he has the stones to kill someone in cold blood?

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4VyT05cujsg - my opinion

Loved season 1-6, didnt mind Season 7 but it was rushed and Season 8 was just a shambles

    but thats it my opinion

The throne melted so they had to elect a king with his own chair. Obvious really.

    Poor drogon that was sad.

    • It was incredibly sad - I actually teared up watching that (maybe I'm getting soft in my old age). Same when Ghost finally got the pats he deserved.

I enjoyed the season but I feel like it was a bit rushed. More episodes or 2 seasons would have been preferable.

I do think everyone ended up where they should be. I enjoyed the meeting at the end (Tyrion and Co).

Hey hey hey hey….You stole my post! :P :D

The episode started OK, and went down hill fast.

Such a soppy ending, they all rode off with a smile…..lame

I'm disappointed. The ending was awful.

I'm pleased Jon had some solice though.

    Bran being King is ridiculous.

  • +7

Tyrion is like, the leader should be someone with a good "story".

    So,

Arya can change faces and killed the night king. She's become a great fighter.

Jon Snow came back from the dead; fought the white walkers; and brought the common folk, wildlings, the north, night watch, Daenarys's army together to fight a war.

    And…
Bran sat in his chair and spoke in cryptic messages for about 4 seasons…so lets vote him king…

That part had me like WTF!!

    • +3

I like how Bran always just sat their staring into space, and every time someone spoke to him he would always say "I knew that would happen"

  • +1

It pandered to the fans. Having the best outcome for everyone.

Arya may even have her own spinoff.
Jon ditched the nights watch straight away
Sansa is strong willed, but has she proven herself to be Queen of the North?

People are saying Bran didn't want the throne, but since he can see the past and future I think he knew he would end up on it and didn't want to say anything before it was time. He did say "Why do you think I came all this way".

They seemed to have rebuilt Kings Landing quite quickly; especially the Red Keep where the council is held. As if the peasants who were slaughtered would rebuild the King's palace before getting themselves out of the hole.

  • +2

    Lame of Thrones
    Shame of Thrones

    • at least its not this

  • When Jon became the Queenslayer, that was it. It was a bit of a twist but the end of series.

The number of Unsullied and Dothrakis at the end is not reasonable after the Battle of Winterfell and the battle to take Kings Landing. Also there was no resolution for the Dothrakis - do they stay in Kings Landing or go all the way back to their plains? Danny never thanked the Northmen in her Victory speech and Jon did her in for it.

The meeting to elect a ruler - the other houses had one representative, the Starks had an army. An extreme contrast - the previous generation had an excess of ambition; the current ones looked and sounded like a bunch of p*ssies/eunuchs.

  • +3

0FoxGiven was spot on with his predictions in the last episodes post

Jon kills Dany - Quite obvious
Bran becomes King of the seven kingdoms - Dumbest outcome possible so that will definitely be what the writers decide to do. They will probably justify it saying he has the wisdom of ages and is completely inpartial to any house etc.
Arya will not die no matter what - Too much plot armor. She will probably ride off into the distance on her magic white horse
Sansa - Queen of Winterfell (Duh)
Jon - Will either die if he loses the light or will go back to the Nightswatch

Disappointing, I thought my boy Edmure would win the game.

  • there are 5 new game of thrones spin of shows coming out soon. 5 separate shows. and the GOT creators have been working on the next star wars movie. so GOT got in the way. they had to end it quick and push out the new shows.
HBO offered them more seasons for GOT but they turned them down because they wanted to rush finish it.

Autistic smirking little Professor X as King of the Seven Kingdoms, GTFO!
I won't need to buy Season 8 now since its mostly garbage.

Loved Ep5 though, the SJW Queen who promised
"I will answer injustice with justice."
..we will leave the world a better place than we found it"

turns out to be a sadistic psychopath.

    There’s a petition on change.org to remake season 8

Almost has 1.5 million signatures lol

  • GRR Martin always said he and very obviously was influenced by JRR Tolkien and we have been delivered a very LOTR ending about the corrupting influence of power.
The Iron Throne= the Ring of Power: it corrupts everyone who either comes into contact with it or seeks to obtain it.
Dany = Gollum: seeking the object of power for so long she's been twisted by the obsession. If she remained Queen the message would be has dragon burns C#N+$ became a queen.
Jon=Frodo The unlikely hero making huge personal sacrifices for the sake of duty - but only by resisting the lure of the corrupting power he holds and destroying the object of power. If Jon sat on the throne after killing Dany the message about the heroism of duty, honour and personal sacrifice would be replaced with a message of I killed the crazy bitch and took the throne so I disagree with people saying Jon should have become king.
Bran=Aragorn - A character of royal lineage who rejected power. A suitable king like Aragorn because of that immunity to power's corrupting influence.

    • GRR Martin did not have any input into the show for the last 3.5~ seasons

      • But look back and so many of the early foundation pieces all fit together with the end result.

        • I didn't read all your theories in full.

But Jon could be seen as Aragorn more than Bran….

          • @Danstar: Maybe but Jon= Frodo>Jon= Aragorn in my opinion because the main theme is honor, duty and personal sacrifice vs corrupting influence of power.

The whole point of Jon going to the night's watch was for Maester Aemon Targaryen to say to him one line:

"they will not love, for love is the bane of honor, the death of duty."

      • He actually did, in terms of the final outcome. George confirmed in an interview that he told Dave & Dan exactly how all the main characters will finish up in the final book. What you see in season 8 is what you will get in the final book, for the main characters.

        • Theirs stories that say that it will be different, their are stories saying it will be the same. I tend to think GRRM will make it different

          • @Danstar: It won't happen. Look up the interview on youtube. Words are straight from Georges mouth himself.

If you follow the storyline closely fair to say that we are led to believe Bran was the one pulling the strings for the most part (whether it was done intentionally or not don't know). He was ofc the one responsible for confirming and revealing Jon’s true lineage which was only going to lead Dany to lose the plot. He’s also the one who gave Arya the Valyrian steel dagger last season which she used to kill the NK in the exact spot under the weirwood no less. Also him saying that he didn’t come all the way to KL for nothing and that Jon was where he was supposed to be implies that he knew what was going to go down in KL (ie for both Dany and Jon to be out of the picture).

Summing up to take the throne Bran manipulated things in order to first get rid of the NK, then Cersei, then Dany (knowing that she was going to burn down KL and innocent civilians), then Jon and looking back he also fooled Tyrion with that I’m the Three-Eyed Raven now so not interested in becoming anything else speech. So as far as the desire and pursuit of power is concerned what makes him different to Cersei, Dany 2.0 or the NK?

If the whole premise is nothing changes and that power corrupts all great no qualms with that but then Bran taking the throne should have been portrayed as such. Not some breaking the wheel happy ending bs which quite simply just doesn’t add up. I mean how are we supposed to believe that he wouldn't continue to manipulate anything and everything as he sees fit to get his way? At least if there was some kind of Bran-NK twist in the end or something to suggest that he was the actual villain after all things would have made sense. Instead it seems that it was all just a means to an end rather than anything meaningful. What made GoT different to other shows for mine is that it made you think. Last couple of seasons and in particular this season however took all that was thoughtful, creative, original and symbolic and flushed it down the toilet.

its not a fair game (of thrones) if one goody two-shoes family is given superpowers and the rest aren't.
