Valuing the S10+ at $1499 is ridiculous.. no one is ever going to buy it at that price. But if you get the S10+ part of Samsung EPP/ the corporate deal, S10+ is $974.

    $65*12+$799 = $1579 for plan - $974 for phone = $605 or $50.4/month

    • +5

Not everyone has access to EPP.

You can do better than $1499, but remember that the cheapest iPhone XS (64GB) costs over $1600.

You can do that, but if they buy it in their name, then warranty might be complicated. If I was buying for someone else, I would not appreciate having to make warranty claims on their behalf.

And I don't know if you can claim TRS if it's in someone else's name.

          • @lostn:

but if they buy it in their name, then warranty might be complicated

really? how's that? You just register the warranty when you get it.
But anyway, you have the receipt, and it was a present.

            • @[Deactivated]: The receipt will be an invoice sent to their email, with their name and address on it. It might still work, but I don't want that.

And I want to claim TRS on it.

              • @lostn: TRS is different, but you can register the warranty under you name. The warranty is with the product, not the owner.

But as for the TRS, it depends on the difference in price. if it costs you $1100 so you can claim $110 back, but you can get it for for $900, then you'd be mad paying $1100

                • @[Deactivated]: I don't trust any stranger to buy a phone for me, sorry. Giving money up front to someone you don't know who is not bound by consumer laws sounds like a dumb idea.

I'm willing to buy a phone for you though. Interested?

got mine from the recent ebay deal, $1018 after the ebay plus 15% off code.
bought $1000 ebay gift card on ozbargain forum for $900.
traveling overseas next week, $108 to be refunded.
total comes down to a little above $800.

btw, it's snapdragon 855 from hk, with an invoice with GST content.

      • -1

aren't you going to bring the phone back? don't you need to repay the refunded tax upon arrival? what trick did i miss? simply not to claim it?

        • U can bring back $900 (per person) worth of goods either bought overseas, or purchased here and claimed tax in TRS.

        • In case you travel with companion(s), you can pool the TRS amount. Also they allow depreciations on goods, so I would not be surprised if they let you through upon arrival for a $1000ish item.

      • I bought one from here, after 15% code and ebay gift cards, it is under $880. After I received on Tuesday, I flashed AU rom, Everything works perfectly.

    • I qualify for the Samsung Australia education site discount and the S10+ is listed at $1479.20 with discount. How do you get the $974 price?

  • thats right, your S10 will also be nowhere near its original price at the end of 12 months, so youre looking at a gradual decline of the value over time

    • +4

That happens to everything, no matter if you buy it outright or get it on a contract.

      • -1

sure but you shouldnt add that in as part of your cost evaluation on day one like OP, basically you wont know the exact price

        • +1

If you're buying it now, you have to base its value on today's value, not what it is after you've used it for a year.

  • +2

    $1579.00 bux??? What a steal!!!

    Practically giving it away!

  • Good deal OP, considering some sheeps pay around that for an IPhone

Not a good deal comparing to other deal from JB, you don't get $400 gift card with it. So basically you pay 1k$++ upfront then you still need to be bound with contract.

    • Isn't this better deal if you want that specific phone? This gives you approx. $700 off retail of s10+.

      • +1

Its not $700 off because you're supposed to get $400 gift card with this plan, but they are not giving it to you instead you still need pay another $799. So its like paying $1200 for the phone(only 20% savings) + 1 year contract. Better to get from Samsung EPP with 35%, i know its not accessible to everyone but you can always open a thread here to help you to buy it.

FYI telstra employee can get 50% off from RRP, and you can open a thread to find one. Even with some commission you will still save more than this.

        • @planetandre - what's this Telstra employees get 50% off - do they get a discount on the RRP from samsung or this $799 ?

          • @KanJuice: Its part of the Samsung EPP discount, just a perk of being telstra employee. It seems like the offer for 50% has expired though. So 35% is the best you can get right now.

            Its discount from RRP.

  • Isn't the same 60gb data plan $49 at the moment?

  • Why not buy a great dual sim china droid for ~$300-$500. Get a cheap unlimited call text sim e.g. amaysim 8 months via groupon for $8.46, and then do the monthly kogan 40gb data sims for $4.90?

    $1499 seems excessive

    • How's the camera from those low end phones compared to this? Not knocking on budget phones but people but flagships for a reason

      • Dependent on the actual phone and app but some are excellent.

  • I'm seriously considering this offer.
I have $200 jbhifi giftcard from porting husband's number a few weeks ago, so I can put that towards upfront cost of the phone. Brings it down to $599.

I'm on chat with Telstra right now trying to get Click frenzy deal but no luck…instead I got offered this by the Telstra Rep

"I'd like to offer our Companion Plan offer, for $49/month in 12 months contract with 15GB + 15GB data and Unli Calls/SMS. This plan includes the Peace of Mind data $0.

This is a Below the line offer (not applicable to all customers) selected only.

With this plan, I will be porting your mobile number and get you $10 discount"

so $39 per month with 30GB data which is plenty for me.

Getting rep to put this on my account notes. Then I'll go to jbhifi.

    I think this is ok???

  • There will probably be a better deal along the line, wouldn't be surprised if it was within 2 months' time - definitely before the Note 10.

But this seems to be the best deal present for local stock without going through ozbargain gymnastics.
