Just left Lumo Energy, any good reward programme out there?

Hey guys and gals,

I recently switched my electricity supplier from Lumo Energy to another company. For years I have hated Lumo's customer service and was quite happy about the decision. The only thing I missed was their rewards programme called Lumo Advantage, which I could book discount movie tickets ($11 for adults) and 5% off Woolworths and Coles store cards.

I'm wondering if there are any comparable or even better rewards programmes out there, preferably free of joining fees, that you guys know of?

Thanks in Advance!

Edit: Doesn't have to be electricity company's rewards programme, just somewhere I can get cheap movie tickets and Woolies gift cards.

  • Thanks for the reply guys! Doesn't have to be electricity company's rewards programme, just somewhere I can get cheap movie tickets and Woolies gift cards.

    • Entertainment Book - gives you $11 village cinema tickets and 5% off Coles gift vouchers.

      • But I'd have to pay for that book… which 95% of the vouchers are rubbish.

And just checked, cinema tickets are upped to $13 each for the 2011/12 book

        • If you eat out a bit at decent restaurants, the book can (and has in my case) pay for itself in a single outing! :)

        • I agree with Stewballs. I get a lot of use out of my Entertainment Book. I wouldn't pooh pooh it too much. :)

If you're really fussed about the $13 village tickets, try here for the $11 tix.

        • I disagree with the 95% of the vouchers being rubbish though. Using 3-4 of the better coupon usually pays for itself in the long run.

AGL has free rewards program which is essentially Ambassdor Card membership program. $11 movie tickets and 5% off many gift cards including Wish cards.

I know you said doesn't have to be an electricity company. You can think about it. But AGL is not one of the cheapest electricity providers. I left them after 6 years with them.

    • Thanks spal! This is what I was looking for. Btw if AGL is not the cheapest electricity provider, who is?

      • +1

It depends where you are.Same company charged different tariff at different regions. Go to a comparation website, pop in your postcode, then you will find the cheapest for you.

        • Good idea, thanks!

  • Cheapest is Dodo for Victorians. https://secure.dodo.com.au/electricity/PlanSelection.aspx? They've just entered the market. From their website:

"Australian owned and operated, Dodo Power & Gas is licensed to sell electricity and gas in Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia, Queensland and the ACT. Right now we are selling electricity in Victoria only, but we look forward to providing power and gas throughout Australia in the future."

I am in the process of changing to them. Used http://www.yourchoice.vic.gov.au/ to find the cheapest consumption and supply charges and then popped over to Dodo to find that if you sign up for a 36 month contract and pay on time you get an additional 20% off your bill!

You also get their rewards card, http://www.infiniterewards.com.au/ one of the perks, amongst many, of the card is 5% off WISH and Coles gift cards!

    • Do you know if their rates cheaper than all the other retailers? Are they allowed to increase the tariff on you while you're on a 3-year contract with them?

  • As stated above, use http://www.yourchoice.vic.gov.au/ entering your postcode. For me Dodo was the cheapest tariff for the daily supply charge but was not the cheapest consumption rate, was approx .02c more, until you reduce it by the 20% if you pay on time making Dodo .02c cheaper.

The prices are fixed throughout your contract. I'm not sure what occurs if they reduce their tariffs, however, I can't see that happening in the current climate.

Momentum Energy had the second best rates.

It also does depend if you have single rate, two rate or time of use as your meter type. I have single rate at my place and my Mum and Dad have time of use. For each of those with a postcode of 3131 and 3133 respectively, Dodo beat the other retailers hands down, with the Infinite Rewards card as an additional sweetener.

    • I work in the industry and I can assure you that Dodo will not fix electricity prices for small market "contracts". No retailer will, and you will see increases of about 10% every year for the foreseeable future.

Refer to clause 9.2 in http://www.dodo.com.au/electricity/pdf/MarketTermsAndConditi…

The closest you can get to a fixed price is Momentum and Powerdirect. They only generally increase rates by CPI and pass-through charges.

  • Just joined an international loyalty program getting established in Australia that has already been going in Europe for 9 years. You actually get CASH BACK and other benefits when you order Woolworths gift cards through the program. Plus there are heaps of other merchants which also offer CASH BACK to members. You join the program by being recommended and signed up by an exisiting member so contact me if you want to know more.
