Panasonic LX-100 Mark II

Hi Guys,
I'm looking for cheap panasonic LX-100 Mark II. Is it worth to buy off amazon 2nd hand?
Or is there any other alternative shops that you guys might aware of?

  • eBay/Gumtree your best bet with second hand camera gear

  • They are a good camera, along with the rx100 VA or VI. I keep an eye on both of these. I have seen them both down to $1,000 or close to it. I'm interested to see what you find. Nothing good new is coming out with viewfinder.

JB had the RX100 VA for $954 for about two days last month…

    • rx100 VA or VI

I'd recommend the VA, but not the VI - the release of the VA is basically admission from Sony that they screwed up. They should have never tried to put in that "superzoom" lens into the RX100 body - it's not what the heritage of that camera or what that camera is about. The RX100 has always been about amazing IQ in a small package and the slow aperture of that superzoom lens really makes the RX100 VI not a part of the same series.

The VA is a modest update to the V. I don't think any camera manufacturers are investing much in these enthusiast compact cameras anymore. Nothing new with an optical viewfinder has come out for years now. Panasonic have done the same with the LX100; upgrading it modestly to a MKII. Neither of them are new models as such. That's why I wouldn't pay more than $1,000 for either. The RX line and the LX are the only two in this category that have optical viewfinders. The VI, from what I've read, is still respectable. It isn't a superzoom and f2.8 isn't bad for the reach it has in a small package. DPREVIEW gave it 83% (silver award), and that seems to be a concensus ballpark assessment from most reviewers. More reach and versatility at the cost of slightly smaller aperture and a drop in IQ - that's pretty much a given law in photography. I like even less choice and would buy the RX1 if it weren't prohibitively expensive. I think with either the VA or VI or LX you can't go wrong; you just need to know what features suit you best. If the OP needs to read reviews to help decide, dpreview is a popular site for photographers: https://www.dpreview.com/products/sony/compacts/sony_dscrx10…

        • yeh they might think that this kind of customer category might just use their phone instead

          • @flazh: That's what is happening. It's a pity for the rest of us though.

  • Often see tempting deals on Gumtree, but then wonder how I can seriously check out whether everything works, and get cold feet…

It's probably not the deal you're looking for, but down to around $1,000 now with 20% discount on ebay at ted's. And the rx100va is under a $1,000.

    • cheers for the update
