    How do these hold up in terms of gameplay? The ones i remember it was basically raise a Digimon, challenge some other people and then it'd die and you start over again.

      That's still the basic loop. There are some finer details with how to evolve each type of Digimon.

      Yes you can only battle physically, the units attach to each other from the tops.

      You can battle on the device, as well, if it's similar to the 20th anniversary ones from Japan. But it's just AI enemies.
