Aussie Broadband Requesting 30 Day Notice for Cancellation! **RESOLVED**

I have just recently signed up with Kogan NBN on one of their promo plans.

My billing cycle with ABB still has 3 weeks left, for which they are expecting me to pay the whole month and not pro rata. Apparently their T&C's state that customers have to give 30 days notice!

I have gone through the CIS document I received when I signed up and nowhere in there it mentions anything about a 30 day notice. When I queried this with them, they are re-directing me to their T&C's on their website.

I thought the whole point of a month to month plan was to move when you prefer and pay the pro rata amount!

On a side note, I recently moved from Vodafone to Telstra for my mobile service and Vodafone charged me the pro rata amount for the days I was on with them!

Am I wrong in expecting to be charged only the pro rata amount? or

Are ABB trying to screw me over?

I understand this is only a matter of $50, but having worked in the industry for a few years myself, this seems to be a bit shoddy.

Should I pay pro rata or pay for the whole month (3 weeks left) even though I will be with Kogan??

Fair to say if I am on a 12/24 contract, I am bound to pay the monthly amount for the rest of the months left on the conract.

UPDATE: Just had a call back from one of their Level 2 Managers that they are going to refund the pro-rata amount back to me

Apparently their T&C's get updated often and I held them by their CIS for the plan. :)

Thanks everyone!

  • the whole people of month to month plan was to move when you prefer and pay the month in full!

which telco allows pro-rata billing on immediate termination ?

  • Sounds like you should have read your T&Cs.

  • I didn't think it is that unusual to be required to pay a month in advance. That's how my Optus home broadband works.

I think the point of month to month was to suggest you weren't committed to a long term 12 month or 24 month contract.

  • It is month to month, if your silly enough to change 1 week into your month why is that their issue.

Incase thag wasnt clear you pay for a month at the start of every month. What you do with that month is upto you.

    No pro rata charge

Read at the end of this document, 30 days notice clearly stated

Everything is stated quite clearly, so it's your own fault for signing up for another nbn service without checking the conditions of your existing contract, they are not trying to screw you over

    • Just got a callback from them and got my pro rata sorted. Their T & C's were updated after I signed up and they acknowledged that my CIS should have had it :)

Interesting part was that the initial rep suggested I look at my CIS that I had received when I signed up and it wasnt there. and he stumbled for a few mins before he redirected me to the website T & C's which he mentioned was updated after I had signed up.

  • Misleading title, are they actually requiring you to give 30 days notice? Doesn't sound like it to me.
I think they are asking you to pay for the current month to which you contracted yourself.

Where in the T&C's does it say you will be paid out Pro Rata?

  • Glad you got it sorted, OP.
