If you getting the quote. Not the insurance . If the quote doesn't beat your current insurance then you don't have to accept it but you still get your flybuys points anyway

    • +12

More like get $2.5 for your personal information so they bombard you with offers and on sell your information.

      • +7

Flybuys knows everything about you already. Even the colour of your underwear.

        • +2

They know the colour before you even buy them ;)

        • +6

Jokes on them, I don't wear any!

      • +1

        So nothing really changes?

  • Thanks.
    Is the insurance any good?

    • +7

      No it isn’t

      • What's your experience

    • Haven't had a problem with Coles. My 2012 vehicle was a total loss after getting rear ended on the m4. Had hire car coverage straight away and a slick claims process. AAMI were harder to deal with previously on a much more minor accident.

    • +6

They seem like a cheap airline. Quote appeared reasonable until I added hire car and windscreen that I get included in all my other policies and it bumped the premium up another 50%.

      • +1

My Quote is $300 more than NRMA, AAMI. Not even added extra options.

        • Coles insurance is underwritten by IAG Limited. IAG limited also trades as NRMA insurance. So it's the same company writing the policies. It's interesting that they have such different prices depending on the get up they sell under.

          • +1

@tihir: Common misconception that same underwriter equals same insurance. It's pretty much the premise that coles relies on. Can assure you that the 2 insurances could not be further apart in quality.

            • +2

@teddirez: It’s like saying: “These two houses are the same because they both have their mortgage with ANZ”.

    • the maximum agreed value they're giving me on my car is $3000 whereas i've negotiated $6000 with Shannons.

So is it just getting quite or have to actually buy the cover to get 500 points,

    • +2

flybuys BONUS POINTS will be credited to the member’s flybuys account up to 30 days after obtaining the new quote

  • +1

Perfect, I currently have 1557 points.

  • +2

Didnt know I was old until clicking on the left arrow of the calendar when picking my dob

    • There was a way to change the year, clicking on the year at the top or something, I forget how I did it now.

    • +1

I must have used a different page, mine didn't have a calender, just input the digits.

      • iOS maybe?

  • +4

Holy crap. NRMA $307, Coles $582. Same details.

  • "We need to talk to you about your insurance
So that we can give you an accurate quote, we need to get some more information from you over the phone
Call us on 1300 551 842 and mention your quote ID"

    • I got this as well. Just wondering if we'll still get 500 points 🤔

  • -4

Personally I don’t think the 500 points are worth the intense harassment you’ll face from Coles to pressure you into buying the car insurance once you’ve got the quote. They’ll likely call, text, email, etc… for months afterwards.

    • +4

You even click the link? No email verification or phone required.

      • +2

Is it possible they'll get your details from your flybuys profile?

    • +3

      Username checks out :)
I did the same few months ago, never received a single call or email

  • +3

Sorry, but we can’t offer you Car insurance
We appreciate you taking the time to get a quote from us. Unfortunately, based on our product criteria, we are unable to offer you Car insurance for your particular circumstances.
Wonder if I still gets points

    • i keep getting the same message too. No matter what options I select. There's no way you get the points otherwise you could just keep doing this over and over.

  • +4

LOL, $700 for a car worth $2000 HAHA these guys are on drugs.

    • +2

Cuz you will compensate the people with a $500k car.

      • +2

Coz ppl with 2k value cars still hit $70k cars perhaps. Ppl with low value cars are likely older cars may not look after them as well may be more likely to break down…

        • Insurance doesn't cover breakdowns.

    • Anything below $2K may not be worth comprehensive.

  • +5

Budget Direct. Best. Outstanding service, ESPECIALLY when you claim, extremely competitive prices. Been with them for 10+ years .. :-) .. !! NB: No connection, no commission, no nothing ….

    • +1

      +1

    • really.. Have to get quote from them too then. Currently I am finding AAMI giving me best price.

  • I don't get why there are many positive votes. Can someone explain how this is a bargain?

    • It's a freebie (arguably), OzBers love freebies .. :-) .. !! Personally, I wouldn't waste my time (or my id). This sort of business trolling is based on the premise that 'there's one born every minute'. A proportion of all those doing quotes will end out taking out insurance in sheer ignorance of the competitiveness (or otherwise) of the quote.

    • Depends if they hassle you after obtaining the quote or not…

      • It's insurance. They most certainly will.

    • For me I have 1500 points on my card, so adding this gets me my $10.

  • For anyone else wondering, if your car isn't an Oz delivered model, you'll have to make up one from the manual list. No imports. Which also means they probably won't insure you. But we're only here for the $2.50 I guess

Nb. The local Nissan GTR is selectable but they won't cover it, not sure if this qualifies as a proper quote or do I do it all over again??

  • +1

They are a joke. DOUBLE what NRMA charge for me..

  • +1

    I got an error lol

"If you think you might have entered your details incorrectly, please try again."

    • Try desktop

      • I am on desktop heh

        • had a play around too, it seems like the car make may not have the correct options as the second time i did it another field 'engine' type came up. may have to try another car make

  • +3

Easy way to get 250 Velocity Points (during bonus time) and confirm that i’m getting a better deal on my car elsewhere. Thanks OP!

  • Quoted me over double what RAC charge me

  • Dearer than Budget Direct.

  • Lame, dearer than youi for less cover and benefits.

  • +1

Did a quote for an old bomb and comprehensive insurance is double the value of the car!

  • $780 damn that's crazy. Not as bad as QBE who wanted to charge me $2000 for my $500 Allianz cover.

  • How far do you have to go to get the points? I got up to step 2 (out of 4) where they give you the price.

But on that page they promote the exact offer "Collect 500 flybuys BONUS POINTS when you get a quote for Coles Comprehensive Car Insurance by Sunday 30th June 2019*".

Why would they promote it there unless I have not got the points yet?

    • i believe step 2 is enough because you get a quote number: COMO-XXXX-XXXX in the top right corner. you can confirm by retrieving your quote here Retrieve Quote

  • Current SGIC policy $329, Coles $680

Its a no from me, nice try Coles

  • +2

Without this incentive, I would never know how expensive Coles insurance is. NRMA $1100 $800 excess Coles $1900 $1000 excess

  • Current insurer: $969. Coles insurance: $1,504.

    Lol

  • +3

Check out the rubbish that Coles are doing now, with Price Hipster: https://pricehipster.com/coles-hostile

  • If anyone is getting the error message that you are not eligible, all you have to do is enter your car manually. Ford Focus 2016 6 speed auto works every time.

  • I'm trying to figure out how they got my car details just from the registration. I've never had Coles Insurance before. I thought this info was restricted to Vic Roads. I'm wonder if they're using the Kmart Tyre and Auto database.

    • +1

Anyone can search on vic roads? Just go registration check

    • +2

Yep There is a central database of all vehicles. Insurers, Mechanics, etc use this to get full details of your car without you having to guess. Quite handy actually.

    • Ahem… Your VIN number is tied to your registration number, and is public information.

  • +1

Hmm quote comes out at maybe 10-15% of the car's value. Does that sound right?

  • Can't imagine they would get any business when both of my car quotation is higher than my current insurer.

Are they just giving out $2.50 for the sake of it?

    • They are just using up their marketing budget before the end of the financial year.

  • Can you choose your own repairer?

    • Nope. You have to use the one they choose.

  • +1

My points have been credited now

    • Good to know. Still haven't received mine yet.
How long ago did you obtain the quote?

      • I obtained the quote on the 9th (the day I posted) and was credited on the 28th.

  • Mine came through on 28th June. Says transacted 10Jun.

    Thanks OP.

  • Posted for both me and my OH, dated 28/6, transaction date 16/6 (which I assume is when we did the quotes). Thanks!

  • +1

Transacted June 9, Rewarded on June 28. Awesome!

  • Damn I did mine on 12/6 and still no bonus points.

  • Got mine. Did quote last week and points over weekend.

  • I received 2x 500 points for two quotes for the same car using different FlyBuys cards (which are linked within the same household).
