  • I'm needing new laptop but don't want to spend too much. is this any good?

      • Huh interesting. Good reason to avoid it. But the specs don't indicate such woeful performance.

    • Have a look at Acer Aspire E15, best selling Amazon laptop, and has awesome reviews (most of them say change the HDD to a faster SSD and make it primary and change the RAM as well).

I'm waiting on a deal on that laptop when it goes under $600. Currently on Amazon it's around $800 AUD.

Better off buying a Dell second hand e74XX series off ebay, better bang for buck imo.

Yeah I've done exactly that 3 times, superb deal. The e7270 and e7280 Latitude series are tough as, and go well with a docking station. e7270 is "limited" to 16GB RAM dual channel while e7280 / 7290 goes one better to 32GB.

      For a $550 laptop from a b&m store, 720p is adequate.

yea. im surprised they are not bragging about High Definition
      lol

  • one could put a good 1080p IPS panel in and enjoy it, but it's another $100 at least, and we're talking $650 total.

  • Nothing special. You could get an i5 for $30 more back in Feb.

  • Paid same amount 2-3 years ago for i5-5200U with GT920m.

    • True, those kind of deals were around then but much harder to find these days as prices have gone up ( and $AU gone down ).

Pentium for $549 is a bad time all around.

  • This has the guts of a 11-12" subnote inside a 15"…

    dont buy this.

I'd have no problems with the same spec in a portable size even at the same price.

    • Also looking at the Acer E15 on Amazon, any problem with warranty if purchased from overseas seller?

I would say that's a better deal overall. i3 and FHD screen.
swap out the SATA spinning drive, add more RAM, and you're away laughing.

  • Really cant see anything good about this laptop

Well done on your first post.

I'm going against the consensus of the comments here and say this is a decent laptop for this price that most people can drop in their local JB HiFi store and grab on the way home from work.

It's not going to break any records, but for the average persons use for email/web browsing etc this will work well with fast boot ups, acceptable performance ( not gaming and vid editing of course ) and reasonable battery life. This CPU is as fast as many i3's from only a few gens back.

Many people are looking to only spend $400-$600 Max Total on a laptop with no added upgrades, and because this already has 8GB ram and a SSD ( only 128GB but usable for many, ), there is no more to spend, just use and enjoy.
