I believe this is the cheapest it has ever been unless you get it price beat at Officeworks.

JB Hi-Fi $49

Update: Price reduced to $27.97 to help true bargainers to have it beaten by Bunnings and Officeworks!

      • I guess for the energy consumption monitoring?

      • Any idea if you can control the USB and regular power separately on the Brilliant plug?

        • No. Cant control usb, it is constantly on.

          • @maiuspala: Even when the point is turned off with the controls?

            • @pdtmathieson: Yes, the power output of the plug can be turned off, but the USB port stays powered, and is not able to be controlled.

Just a thought, but being US means half the voltage, double the amps for any given wattage.

Guess these things were designed with 220V in mind, and don't like the higher amps (the reviews I saw all said were drawing 9A or more.)

I probably wouldn't use it with high wattage devices for any length of time.

Been using the Xioami ZigBee, I have two. Works well, except when I put on the dishwasher it failed within 5 days.
The Xioami can't be seen on Google, you have to use it through the Xioami hub. So it's dumb compared to the TP.Meaninh no voice control, unless you speak Mandarin.
I have ordered the TP also.
I was impressed by energy monitoring, however difficult to achieve IFFT , I suppose one could achieve through alert messaging….

I have these and the xiaomi zigbee ones. The xiaomi has mote functionality and tweaks from the app, lower power consumption and save you from having too many wifi devices connected to your router. Its problems are the 2200w limit that can't handle high current devices like dishwasher, washer when heating water (it will trip and require physical reset), and google home/alexa connectivity issue too.
the Tp-link one on the other hand has more simple app interfaces, reliable but mine was having issues with energy monitoring lately despite being on latest firmware. I guess you have to get some coding to pull out more energy data than on the spot reading.

    • Yeah wtf, not buying.

    • Those are US version of the plugs. They use lower voltage and thus higher amps to compensate. For an 1800w load they'd be pulling 15 amps instead of 10. I've run a washer and dryer through one, no fire so far.

I wouldn't use it to switch on and off an arc welder though :p

Got two thanks. Now to find a use for them. :)

    • Yep, came here to say exactly this

    this or Brilliant hmmmm

There is some very simple code to pull power usage stats and control the device on github for those interested. https://github.com/ajay10000/TP-Link-HS110

  • V1.1 vs V2?

My local OfficeWorks only has the V1.1 version.

    • How one distinguish?

      • +1

A quick search says v2 has usb port on the side. Bought v1 at OW for $26.60, guy at counter was highly stressed and quickly asked if free delivery on Amazon price. I said yes :)

        • guy at counter was highly stressed

why would he be stressed ?

  • +1

Bought, gonna use this to remotely turn on my PC (via power on at AC power loss).

    • +1

Edit: nm. I get ya. Good thinking

    • How this possible? does any PC has on button that needs to be physically pressed?

      • +2

Usually there is a setting in BIOS/UEFI for what should happen after power loss.

    • Can't you do this via Wake Up on Lan packet and port forwarding?

      https://www.howtogeek.com/192642/how-to-remotely-turn-on-you…

      • +1

Yep, have never been able to get it to work

        • As bamzero stated, it can take effort or may not work at all depending on your router.

Reading your comments reminded me of something I'd done years ago to get WoL working over the Internet. See here - it may or may not help.

It is also dependent on WoL working locally; if you can't get it working locally, it's unlikely to work remotely.

          • @stebie: I gave up trying. Nothing would work, not even locally. This plug will work nicely, however.

      • This can be difficult depending on the router you have. They won't all forward the broadcast packet you need.

    • Yeh this is not going to help, following a power outage the power is already on at the plug. You can however simulate a power outage remotely really well if you like to break your PC. Could use it to reboot something that locks up though.

      • I don't follow. What issue is there if there is a power outage?

        • So the power goes off, your PC goes off, then the power comes back on and you have power at the socket already. Adding this just means you can turn the power off and then on again at the socket, but it doesn't switch your PC on.

What you need is something to actually press the button on your PC or equivalent. So check wake on lan, or bios options to automatically come on or resume prior state after power outage.

          • @silverfish:

So the power goes off, your PC goes off, then the power comes back on and you have power at the socket already. Adding this just means you can turn the power off and then on again at the socket, but it doesn't switch your PC on.

So, I understand that this will cut power to whatever is plugged into it? If the plug is off, then there is no motherboard light (i.e. power going to the motherboard).

Once the plug comes on, it would then be able to be controlled remotely, allowing power to flow through to the mobo, and thus turning the PC on. As once my mobo receives power, it automatically powers on.

I could be wrong, if so, then no, this won't work for me.

            • @giventofly: IMO this should work as you expect, based on how you plan on configuring your PC.

  • Bugger, just bought this from bunnings two days ago at $49.

    • Bunnings has an awesome return policy

      • Yes, I am debating to return or not. Its already plugged in and in use now. I hate to return a product once its out of original box.

        • Buy a new one and take the new one back in place of the used one… ¯_(ツ)_/¯

          • @Master Bates: Haha…. I like that one. Ordered two from amazon.

          • @Master Bates: he just said he hate to return a product once its out of original box.

          • @Master Bates: Cant do that! remember the bar code doesnt lie!

            • +1

@MauTauAja: What do you mean? If it's the same product, it's the same bar code. The store won't know the difference, they'll just match up the item on the receipt with the item returned.

    • buy another and average the price down

      • Like trading stock heh

    • try to bring it back to Bunnings for price match

  • +1

Great price OP, i guess this product will be a good way to redeem my $30 voucher from the last 10TB mix up.
So technically free Smart plug, Thnx amazon. :P

    • technically you are correct

  • Confirmed price match at Officeworks down to $26.60 in store - just picked one up!

    • +2

      price match beat

  • Thanks OP. Been waiting for a deal on the HS110.

  • I was looking for these awhile ago, thats an amazing price

  • +2

My work college went to officeworks, and they only matched it. They didn't do a price beat.
As he was walking out the store, he checked the officeworks web site and it is now showing $28

    • OW has matched amazons price.
Printed price says $39 but it scans $28, cant price beat anymore.

  • +1

thx op, i got one for my wifi router to turn it on and off remotely.

    • -1

      did no-one get my joke?

      • -1

Well you could at least turn it off remotely. Is there a function to perform a reboot remotely, i.e. cut power and set a timer to restore in a couple seconds?

        • you're ruining my joke.

          • @[Deactivated]: Maybe it wasn't that good?

            • @mstrelan: i got two votes. so two other people thought it was good.

  • Thanks, picked up a couple from Chatswood OW. Looks like the stock is running low at several OW stores.

  • I actually want to use the plug to plug in a power board which has the TV, media player and speakers.

Has anyone done this, would it support a 4 or even 6 outlets powerboard?

    • Yeh I had one connected like that for a while to measure power consumption.

No reason it shouldn't unless you exceed the power limit

  • This has gone up on the amazon website from $28 to $38 in the last 15 minutes. Officeworks is still at $28.

  • Cheers OP. Bit late to the party..Expired at Amazon . Just ordered 2 for free delivery at officeworks before they jack the price back to $38

  • Missed out on the Amazon deal, was going to order online to get the 3.5% cashback, so i'll do C&C at Officeworks instead now.. I could have probably saved $5.60 (for 2) by getting Bunnings to price match, but i'm already in my PJs and don't want to risk it going up on the Officeworks website while driving there…

I'm going to use them to control and monitor the power usage on my 2x 3D Printers :)

  • The HS100 model is $24 delivered (Amazon Prime) here…just bought one

    https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B017X72J5Q/ref=ppx_od_d…

  • Has anyone figured out how to add this plug to tuya app?

  • Bought this and returned it the next day. I plugged my washing machine (2.2 KW) to this and when the machine was running, the RCD tripped. I have never had RCD tripped before. Unplug this and everything was fine. Not very safe to use IMHO

    • yeah screw this, not safe.

  • +2

Back at $28 for those who missed out earlier.

    • no one miss out.

TP-Link's Kasa app used a Caesar cipher, a form of cryptography used by the ancient Romans. The key to deciphering the cipher was hard-coded right into the app, and the researchers used it to communicate with the TP-Link smart bulb from their rogue app. (It probably would have worked with any of the two dozen TP-Link devices that uses the Kasa app.)

    http://amp.tomsguide.com/us/smart-home-leaky-apps,news-29319…

“Hardcoding crypto key right inside the app” - it sounds like typically chinese programming

  • Ordered yesterday at something like 11am, just got delivered to Tyabb VIC, a definitely not central city location. How good.

    • Was it Version 1.1 or 2(has USB on the side)?

Officeworks only seem to have version 1.1 so i might get them off Amazon instead if it's the newer version.

      • I don't think there is a USB on the side, I forgot to check. Not that useful for what I'm using it for, but will be for others I guess.

        • Thanks would you mind checking for me later?

Trying to find a v2 for the usb port but it seems both Bunnings and Officeworks are stocking the old version.

          • @Alsoar: Didn't have it.

            • @pdtmathieson: Thank you for letting me know.

              • @Alsoar: No worries - if you want that maybe the cheaper Brilliant ones would be an option as others have mentioned on various comments here? Only $20 from Bunnings.

  • Has anyone tried to ask JB to beat/match the price? my local officeworks does not have this in stock and I don't think I need two to get free shipping from Amazon (nor I want to try amazon prime as yet)

    • Hey yep I phoned Melbourne Central and they price matched Officeworks at $28 for me. I grabbed two, looking for things to smarten - the volcano vaporizer is the first target

      • Did they price match or beat the price by 5%?

        • Went to Bourke St JB and they price match it easily, thanks

  • bought 2 because I saw them in store at Officeworks. Not sure what I want them for yet lol

    • LOL, you've been ozb'ed

  • +2

Heads up Bunnings are now $28 also, so no price beating there.

    • i hope someone crack the price down for Brilliant plug.

  • Amazon seems to be mucking around with OW and Bunnings as they have just reduced the price by 3 cents so people can have it price beaten by OW and Bunnings!

    • I noticed that before, but it seems like it's a 3rd party fulfilled by Amazon selling at $27.97 so I'm not sure if the other stores would match.

  • I really gotta stop checking my ozbargain newsletter. Was procrastinating on my 3000 word essay, so decided to afterpay 4 of these plugs from officeworks. I have since manage to justify my purchase by actually reading what they do. Gotta love Officeworks though, everytime I afterpay with them they let me pay nothing for two weeks. If you can manage your finances afterpay will give you the goods.

  • Got a couple from Bunnings price beat and cost $25 each

  • Price matched OW at Jb hifi, used the $10 digital receipt coupon to bring it to $18. Got another $15 coupon from it.

  • +1

Have I already got too many of these?

    Imgur

    • Well you have a spare, so clearly, yes…
Question: Does your dishwasher not require an extra physical button to be pressed to start it? I'm wondering what the use of a switch for that would be…

  • Really liking it.

I'll have to put in an extra wide plug, but that's the only issue. Works as intended. I can now turn on my PC remotely :D

  • Also, I really hope the TP-Link HS300 comes here. That would be perfect for me.

I have some Yamaha HS7 speakers and they have individual switches. I get around turning them on individually as my powerboard has a master slave configuration, so they all turn on with the monitor, but being able to use google assistant to turn everything on would be ideal.

  • +2

Missed saving 6 cents for two as the price has increased back to $28 :D

  • Looks like this deal is done.

Amazon, JB, Officeworks and Bunnings are now all $38+
