Anyone know what the difference betwen the "For Business" and standard is?

An extra 0.5" in screen? (although I'm not sure I believe that). Or is it just for Windows 10 Pro?

Amazing device. I have the gtx 1050 model and use it every day. Only annoying thing and maybe its just me, detaching and reattaching the tablet can be a bit cumbersome. Curious to see what this year’s revision will do.

If you don't mind me asking, how well does the tablet side actually function? Do you get much use out of it?

      • +3

I use tablet mode mostly with the pen, but it's also good for reading. It feels absolutely enormous compared to an ipad.

Battery life with the keyboard detached is not great.

  • Having trouble deciding between this and Pro 6 Platinum Bundle which is also on sale at $1098. I use it for documents, eBay selling and web browsing but need something that's very light. I believe the Book 2 is double the weight of the Pro 6?

    • I think the Surface non-Book keyboard will be able to convince you the Book will be more usable if you do a lot of typing with it. Been using various Surfaces over the last couple of years I still can’t get used to that flimsy thing.

Yeah, agree after trying them out in store. But the weight of Pro is unbeatable. Also, couldn't I just use a dock and connect my favourite logitech keyboard when I'm at home doing most of the typing?

    • Where can you get the bundle for $1098? HN looks like they are out of stock of the bundle

  • They claim 17hrs battery time. That's amazing! Anyone know what type of battery it is?

    • +1

you don't get 17 hours, that's a lie. They're generous on their estimates based on benchmarks no one uses in the real world. That said, I can get around 10 hours on mine, 12 if I'm lucky. Still very good.

      • It's a lie like fuel mileage is a lie.

Everyone lies the same, so you can still compare to other laptops.

        • yes and no. Apple are pretty good at battery life estimates.

          • @beatsntoons: Apple are terrible. I have a MacBook Pro 2018 TB i7. I get 3hrs use out of it. Took it to the Apple store (and complained via phone after having to reset the install). They told me it's normal. You'll see many complaints about this online.

MacBook Air on the other hand was phenomenal.

Can't recommend these Surfacebooks highly enough!

    My SB2 (13", i7, 512GB, 16GB) is the best laptop I've ever owned.

  • New to this, so this laptop is also a detachable tablet. ?

I own the $4,000 15-inch Surface Book 2 with the GTX 1060 and it is easily the best laptop I've ever owned. I'm surprised at how well it games as well, can run the latest titles such as Just Cause 4 and Metro Exodus on max settings at 1080p resolution with 60fps. Build quality and battery life is spot on. Love the tall 3:2 screen as well, gives it much more screen real estate for productivity. Wish more laptop makers would adopt this aspect ratio.

For those who have one.. how well does the hinge and screen hold up. Not sure if this is something that will survive living in the backpack with some books.

    • I have a Surface Book 1, and I have no complaints about the hinge. It seems sturdier than any other laptop I've had, and they apparently improved it for Book 2.

The hinge design overall is great, even if a lot of people dislike it. It feels safer carrying it in one hand since it tapers in, and because there's a gap you never get a keyboard imprint on the screen.

It does make it bulkier but well worth it overall.

    • The hinge was one reason I held off until SB2. KenT above has a great experience, and that's good, but I'd read a lot of reports about the hinge reliability.
Mine has been great so far, though the past couple of weeks I think it's been playing up (I have a microSD card in the base which connects and disconnects often, and it's not down to the card, it's any card in there).

  • I wanted a surface laptop 2 but really needed 16GB for virtual machines. The step up in price from 8GB is ridiculous. It's even $400 to go from 128GB SSD to 256GB. Also they only offer the cheap ones in platinum colour. Clever marketing.

    I got a Lenovo X1 Yoga 8g i7, 16GB, 500GB for $1700 refurbished from Gray's. It's like brand new.

  • Thanks OP. Even lower now at $1757. Purchased using HN gift cards and AMEX offer.
