Too bad for those that paid $599 to get tem from Logitech Shop…

But I heard these were no good compared to the old Z5500s…

  • u gotta be shitting me, my z5500 just arrived today..

    • +8

cheaper and better. The z-5500s outdo the Z906 in basically every review written.

      • what did the reviews have to say? i love my z5500

        • +1

the reviews say the Z906 have the extra inputs that the z5500s don't have, but the speakers are lower quality, the interface isn't as good and they aren't an improvement over the z5500 at all.

    • +2

      Long live the z5500!!!!

  • LOVE my z5500

  • +2

WoW!! Don't reckon even Eddie & his LTS eofys crew could beat that price!

    • They did $399 delivered the other day but only for a limited run of 30, which sold out in like less than an hour!

      • You can still get these from LTS for $399 on their eBay listing. Also, they were $390 for their limited run of 30, so better than $388+$7.95.

  • +2

The z5500 won't pick up audio for the 1st 0.5sec when the sound is being played over digital connection which sucks!!

Anyone know if the Z906 will have this problem also?

    • +7

you really value your time :)

      • +1

hahaha. sorry, don't know a better way to describe that nagging issue…

        • +1

I've got a similar issue with my Z5450s. Why does it matter? Well when the sound is only a second to begin with (eg windows interface sounds) they don't play at all. Or if the sound is say 2 seconds, the first half of it is clipped out.

It's caused by the surround decoder taking about a second to "lock on" to the sound signal.

          It's really annoying.

        • +1

yeah it is a bit annoying actually

    • I think this is moreso a problem with your sound card - you need to set it so that it outputs a constant signal rather than a signal only being outputted when a sound is played.

      • If you can find that setting you're better than me. I spent days searching online trying to find an answer.

          Thanks for that.

Last time I looked was around Christmas so that article wasn't up yet.

It sounds similar to my issue. But I've got a Gigabye GA-X48-DS5 (ALC889A) and it's all PC sounds, not just a single program.

Unfortunately currently my PC is FUBAR while I wait for a warranty repair on my video card, so I can't test that solution right away.

Maybe someone else with the issue can, and report back?

        • Thanks. I will give it a shot.

        • Works! Driver update did the trick. Realtek R2.61 Released 3/6/2011

        • Works! Driver update did the trick. Realtek R2.61 Released 3/6/2011

Driver update AND changing the setting, or just the driver update?

        • Just update. I didn't change anything.

  • +1

Either way, these Z5500 and Z906 are overpriced for what they could do.

    • +2

lol are you kidding? they are designed for this very purpose, digital 5.1 on a very limited budget. This was the case with the z680 and z5500, but the z906 is quite dated as it lacks HDMI audio which carries higher definition audio, Dolby True HD/dts MA/PCM.

    • 10% THD distortion on 500 watts is not a great spec.

  • +2

why not buy a entry level Yamaha receiver/speaker set. Much better.

At least it can do hdmi decoding.

    • Such as? How much? & Why Yamaha? ;)

I've heard the Yammy HTIB's are not that spectacular.

      • +1

But compared to this it will kick ass, Plus have HDMI inputs, do true HD, and have way more control over the sound. I am sticking with my z-5500 I dont see any advantage in upgrading to these, but with my tax monies I am going to look at a onkyo setup. I havent heard great things about Yamaha.

        • Don't get me wrong, I fully understand that an AV receiver/speaker setup will be better than ANY HTIB (which effectively the z5500 is, minus HDMI); I've just stepped up to a Pioneer one myself so I agree on the quality side of things!

However, we're back to an apples to oranges comparison…HTIB (cheap) vs Full AV/HT setup (not so cheap) is never fair! :)

  • +1

It's a good price for these…I wouldn't buy them, but if you dead-set wanted them it's a good price!

I'm well & truly in the z-5500 camp here…much better bang for buck IMHO too! :)

P.S. Somebody at Logitech R&D really dropped the ball on these eh…WTF were they thinking? :o

    • +1

Probably thinking about profit more than sound quality.

  • +1

Would you smart people recommend the Z906 for $388 or Z5500 for $290.00 off the logitech site (http://www.logitechshop.com.au/logitech-z-5500-digital-speak…) Will the Z5500 be able to plug straight in my TV through the Digital Audio connection (that is the only audio connection on my TV)????

    • Yes, provided your tv has the optical output. BUT from my experience (using optical), when you change channels, sometimes the z5500 won't pick up the sound so I would have to switch to coax/direct input on the logitech remote and then switch it back to the optical input, then the sound will play.

Another annoying thing.. but still an awesome system.

    z5500?? pffft…my Z680s for the win!!!!!!:P

    • I'll see your z680's & raise you a Boston Acoustics BA7500!!! ;)

      • Both are crap, cwongtech listened to them at HK airport and told me so.

    • i have both of them.. the z680s are annoying with it's hissing!

  • +2

Don't know why its so hard to improve on the Z5500s :( They should just not change the design or specs at all but add DTS, HDMI + another optical output

  • back to $390 DELIVERED at Logitechshop again…
