The Cloud Alphas are 135$ as well might be worth paying the extra

I think the cloud II's are generally thought to be an overall better pair of headphones.

      • +1

I've had both, the Cloud II has surround sound and optional felt pads, but literally everything else about the cloud alphas are better.

Sound quality, comfort once broken in, mic quality, detachable cable (cable in my cloud II died after 2 years), on wire volume and mic mute are all substantial advantages of the cloud alpha.

The cloud IIs are still good headphones, but unless you absolutely need surround sound then the cloud alphas are much better, and not much more expensive.

Cloud II Was 59AUD last year. Alpha was 84.5AUD. If youn are in a huury just get it. If you want a better deal then make your own decision.

    • Yep those prices are a steal, if I knew they are going to happen again then I'd wait but if needed now looks like a good price for JB

      • EOFY sales at MSY was where the best prices were last year. Might hear something similar in the next 10 days or so.

    • +3

I believe if you look at the comments for the previous Alpha at 84.5$ no one actually got it at the price as they where out of stock on the price drop.

      • Yep - I was waiting for that but ended up getting them from Amazon instead for a touch over $100 at the time. Great headset.

      • I was lucky enough to get a set of the Alpha's from JB for $84.50…

Also scored the Clould II's for $59 from MSY and the Clould Revolvers for $69 from MWave all around the same time..

      • My friend get an Alpha without issues in Sydney. He said there are quite a few left when he bought it. So I think it depends on location.

  • I bought these for $59 AUD last year, they really are pretty bad tbh, I have to use an EQ preset just to listen to music with them… My previous $25 Gamdias headset was better… Paying $111 for them just sounds insanely wrong…

    • You may have received a faulty pair. I've personally owned two pairs and have friends with them. Everyone highly rates them. In my opinion I think they are one of the best bang for buck pairs of cans out there.

      • Well, if they are faulty then the issue seems pretty common as when I searched it online, there were many complaints and all pointing towards the included sound card module but I can't just not use it since my motherboard audio is beyond awful. Btw the issue I'm talking about is (from my previous review): - Female (and high pitched male) vocals have an annoying ringing on S's
        - Some electronic music sounds fairly worse (hissing or reduced audibility on tough sounds).

Afaik, it's tuned this way to help with gaming.

        • My sound card died fairly soon after purchasing, I'd contact HyperX support. I got a replacement shipped to me within a few days of raising a ticket.

        • They do sound weird. I am an audiophile myself used to Hifi sound from high end Headphones. So I also do not like the tuning of the sound on Kingston Headphones. But they do help in listening footsteps in game.

Alpha's are awesome. Can't vouch for these

Pretty shocking that people still buy "gaming" headphones. Get Sony MDR7506 if you want budget headphones.

      $150+ headphones
      "Budget"

Also no built in microphone and 99.99% of people don't want to use a dedicated one
Also i've had similar kingston ones before. They are great, super comfy, good build quality and great quality sound.
Plus they go for sale below $100 relatively often, down to $60 previously.

      • $150 is budget in my books. Rather buy good headphones once a decade than shit headphones once a year.

Why's a dedicated mic so terrible? Sits on your desk and doesn't move.

If you prefer an all in one package, all good. But lots of people don't know you can get stuff that's much better quality than "gaming" gear.

        • Yes everyone does know you can buy better. but for 99.9% of people $150 is not budget.
And i am currently wearing a my 4 year old 'gaming' headset that was $29 (marked down from $79 admittedly) and its been (and is still) fanatstic quality. you dont need to spend out the ass to get good stuff.
As far as i can tell build wise those sony's look 95% the same as these kingstons, so your 10year vs 1 year point is not overly valid anyway. if we were talking a headset thats normally like $30 then sure those usually are bad quality and you will likely only get a year or two (though even then thats no more expensive per year)

Dedicated mic is just another thing to set up, i dont have room for it (im sure others are the same) and if you use the headset for console then the answer is even more obvious.

    • Each to their own, but I really wouldn't recommend the Sony MDR7506 for gaming. They're monitoring headphones - great for audio design to get a flat EQ but not great for listening. They probably won't be as comfortable either (agian, personal preference, but the Cloud II headphones are some of the most comfortable I've tried), have no mic, and have a 3m long cable. Not the most practical.

      • Comfort and cable is subjective, but imaging is typically what you look for in gaming headphones. You don't want overwhelming bass muddying everything. Monitoring cans are your man in that situation.

Some would argue good gaming heaviness are not necessarily good listening headphones. I'd argue that decent headphones are decent headphones.

You can get a cheap desktop mic. Each to their own.

  • they sound decent but the microphone in them is known to die, better off buying a decent pair of headphones and then a blue snowball on an arm.
