Looks like The Good Guys just had this added to their eBay store as I searched for it over the weekend and it wasn't listed.

Good price for a new release product and probably closer to the price that most people would prefer they retail at.

Spending $100 on a clock is not really that 'smart'.

I'm sure there's a lot of watch wearers that would beg to differ.

      • 100 bucks is pocket money for a clock(watch)

        • Does a $500 watch tell time better than an $80 watch?

          • @eug: It's not about accuracy, in fact the expensive one is almost guaranteed to be much worse.

@KentT: Right, so going by andione1983's line of thinking, spending more than 100 bucks on a watch isn't really that 'smart' either… but we all happily do it anyway, so to some people, spending $100 on a smart clock is perfectly fine. :)

  • why not home hub for $13 more

    • Some people may not have enough room on their bedside table for something bigger. Or may want something slightly more discreet than a Home Hub.

  • AMOLED would be better surely

    • AMOLED on a clock seems like it's asking to be burnt-in..
The LCD on the Home Hub is pretty amazing already, in terms of black levels at night. Not sure if this one is the same though.

      • Except smart watch/bands use OLED nowadays no?

        • And they all burn in so point proven. (Except those mono color OLED bands)

Looks like The Good Guys just had this added to their eBay store as I searched for it over the weekend and it wasn't listed.

It's was available since the start (15 June)

    • Oh my bad. My search-fu must have been off.

This or the Echo 5? Seems like things are really changing with Google Nest and that some hardware may not be compatible anymore??

    • +1

It just depends on which ecosystem you're invested in.

I'm getting the Show 5 when it comes out.

I went Amazon almost purely based on feeling stupid saying "okay Googoo".

  • Do note that this actually has less features compared to the Google Home (now named Nest Hub), for example, you can't cycle Google Photos albums, video playback isn't possible and the UI is not an exact clone of the Google Home Hub UI (it's missing the interactive dashboard that controls all your smart home stuff, you just get a very simplified interface that controls your room lighting for that particular room)

  • I like the design of these smart speaker screens etc. But I'm put off coz it doesn't have proper android, there's a clazio spark and archos hello 5/7/10 varieties but not in Australia unfortunately.

For a while I used an Xperia Z Ultra on a dock which looked pretty neat as it's so slim. It ran full Android which was great for some things (e.g. watching YouTube in the kitchen), but for actual smart-display-tasks like setting timers, home automation, and asking questions, I find an actual Google smart display a lot more useful as the UI is designed just for that, and the mic array makes for much better voice recognition.

  • What has better sound quality? This or there Google Home Hub?

    • +1

Home hub is equal to the home mini but i saw a review a while ago saying the clock is about the same as home hub. It's expensive for what it is but it does have a USB port to charge your phone from.
