And salty. But they are pretty great for pre made.
Salt I can control by adding a bit of cream, but that strange smell… Not quite sure what it is of though. Might be the preservatives.
More likely to be the real spices.
These are as close to authentic Indian curries that I have found outside of India.

INCLUDING pre-diced breast I can whip these up for approximately 30% of the price of a proper curry shop :) In fact… if you have bought your chicken on the way home I can actually get this cooked QUICKER than ordering and waiting for delivery or driving down, ordering, waiting, driving back etc
USE PROPER GHEE!!! Highly recommend maharajah's choice. I have used olive oil in the past but you can definitely taste the difference!
Hell… I even use these suckers for vegetables if I want (just make sure to defrost frozen vegies an hour or two before, ice crystals and hot ghee etc don't mix)

I might mix it with a butter chicken next time, physically I cannot stomach anything too spicy but would like some more heat :)
I recommend trying to add a spoon or two of tandoori paste to the butter chicken. It will add a little spice (you decide) without going over the top, and the flavours work ok.
I love the black makhani daal, if we have leftover sausages from a BBQ we throw those in too finely chopped.
