  • Lifx is great… i love them. never had an issue with they current line of products

    • +1

Agreed! I got started with them because I moved house and there was no light switch next to the bed, so I had to actually get out of bed to turn the light off at night. Can you believe it?! What is this, 1992?! Nice to just get Google to do it now, plus the kids love changing colours!

    • +1

Yeah I was a kickstarter backer and those bubls are still working. I did however have some issues with the first gen Lifz LED strips

      • I haven't got any of the strips yet but trying to work out how I can justify getting some 😉

  • Assume would need an electrician to install the downlights?

    • +1

I did, but I went from old-school halogen so needed to have cabling changes made to install standard power points, but if you already have LEDs or other light fittings that use a standard power point, it's easy to simply disconnect those and install these, just like plugging in a lamp.

Thanks got a few day and dusks - go great in lamps. Cheap way to get dimmable lighting all over

    • Welcome!

  • +1

I have a dawn and dusk in my toilet space and it's borderline useless. Rarely connects to the network so it's always stuck on blindingly bright at night and dim during the day. Tech support were responsive but unable to help. (Strong network with no other issues.)

  • +1

Thank you! Been itching to replace my downlights and finally signed up for cashrewards.

    • You're welcome! I love mine - hope you enjoy them!

  • So to the existing LIFX users out there… ignoring all the options available via Wifi, can the downlight model directly replace existing LED downlights and continue to work with regular wall switches and especially dimmers just for the basic on/off & dimming? The extra abilities are fantastic however it's a deal-breaker for some in my household if they wont work the same way the existing lights do for daily operation. Keen to hear as this is a pretty good price!

    • +2

I'm not sure about dimming because I don't have any light switches with dimmers on them, but I can tell you that yes you can still continue to use them by just switching them on and off using the standard switch as per a normal light.

      • Yeah cool, thanks for that deaj. Traditional dimming via an external existing wall plate dimmer is an important feature for me so can anyone else comment?

    • +1
      • Boom! Perfect info, thanks eciuj. I did have a quick look but couldn't find any definitive answer. All good then, looks like I wont be buying these afterall :)

        • Kind of defeats the purpose, don't you think?

          • @hypie: No, not for me. On, Off and Dimming has been available via a simple wallplate for decades and is something I don't expect to need to reach for my phone to control. Colour changing, sequencing, programming and remote switching & dimming etc. then sure, I'll use a smart device no problem. All good, saves me a fortune ;)

  • i think you got the wrong price for the downlights at Bunnings. Just bought 2 from Bunnings to try out, 2 days ago and website still shows $94.85.

    • You're right - I'll update it now.

  • Does anyone know where I could get bulk purchase of LIFX downlights? I'd like to replace quite a few existing LED downlights in my home with these smart ones.

    • +1

Downlights just went out of stock on Amazon, but if they come back into stock at this price, load up because I've never seen them this cheap before!

  • -7

Gee its gone a long way from $2.95 bulbs at Coles. I guess people are happy to pay $1500 for a mobile these days…

  • At this price almost tempted to replace the 4 in the bedroom.
Don't need multi colour or gimble though, wish they offered a white or day/dusk model (and fixed as well so it looks better than the gimble one) that could be had around the $30 mark.

    • This. If they would offer some GU10/MR16 models, day/dusk around $25-30 I'd jump all over it

  • Out of stock already of the downlights

    • +1

Yep, the downlights went out of stock just as I was attempting to get a price match at Bunnings, so missed out on the downlights, but still grabbed some of the Mini Day/Dusk for $22.41 which is an absolute steal. They had to get manager approval because it's almost half the $42.60 price on the shelf.
Hope the downlights come back into stock soon so I can grab some of those as well.

      • Did you manage to get the price match from Bunnings? If you did can you please post a photo of the receipt?
        Thanks.

        • +1

Sure did (on the day and dusk only as the downlights went out of stock while I was in store), they even beat it by 10%! Just picking the kids up from school but will post a photo when I get home from school.

          • @deaj: oh was hoping you got the downlights one. i suppose since it is unavailable it doesnt show the price anymore. Wonder if they will pricematch if someone had a picture or screenshot of it?

            • @bargainuser: Nah,there's no way they'd price match from a screenshot, unless you got REALLY lucky with a staff member who just didn't care.
I'm hoping they come back in stock on Amazon soon and I'll be heading straight down to Bunnings to grab a bunch of they. At ~$50 they're an absolute bargain! I got some around $65 and thought they was a great price.

  • How do these go with replicating 3000-4000k lighting for normal use?

    • I'm not an expert when it comes to lighting, but changing the else lights between different values like 3000/3500/4000 is quick and easy via the LIFX app, but I usually use Google Assistant for turning on/off and dimming.

  • Anyone have more than 5 of these things in the house? Do they slow down wifi?

    • I have 13 lights and a few switches and don't have any issues with them slowing down the network, but like anything network-related, if you have a flaky network these would probably have issues. I'm running Google WiFi on mine and haven't had any issues with dropouts or anything and using Google Home to control them all works a treat!

      • Yeah, I have 5 downlights, 6 bulbs and motion/door sensors with smart things. No problems with my networks. Invest in a good mesh router (I'm using the Orbi's).

      • When you say "switches" here, what are you referring to? Just standard wall switches, or something specific that has LIFX control?

        • Sorry, I was actually referring to wi-fi plugs like the $15 Brilliant ones from Bunnings. Unrelated to the LIFX setup, but I use them in routines with Google Assistant.

    • +1

I have about 26 connected and notice a few drop of the network at times. Not sure how my router would go if I added the 8 more needed.

Agree that you need a good router once you go over a certain amount.

Got two Mini Day & Dusk yesterday for $22.41 each (10% price beat) from local Bunnings (Notting Hill VIC).

They have checked that SKU is the same and delivery is included (free on Amazon with $49 purchase), put a note for price reduction in their system and voila!

Took me ~30 mins to figure out how to connect them to WiFi, but super happy about features, dimming and overall brightness.
