First of all, Lenovo is now doing a clearance on their ultraportable Lenovo ThinkPad 13 with i3-380UM processors. $499 for the following model:

  • Intel i3-380UM (1.33GHz)
  • Windows 7 Home Premium
  • 13.3" LCD
  • 2GB DDR3 RAM
  • 250GB Hard Drive
  • 6 Cell Battery
  • 1.74kg

HOWEVER, apparently Lenovo's late night sale (last seen here) is on again. That means you can use LATENIGHTSALE to get 10% off any Lenovo ThinkPad under $1,000. I just tried it, and the above ultraportable would be reduced to $449.10 after the discount. Beats any old SU7300 based system I think, until the new gen of Sandy Bridge based UM processors come out.

Update: Just found another code TAXPLAY which also gives 10% off any ThinkPad under $1000, but that coupon code would only be activated this weekend (11-12 June). So if you miss out tonight's LATENIGHTSALE, you can still try again over the weekend. See this page for details.

Lenovo also sent me this email today. They are trying to get rid of the previous model of ThinkPad Edge 14. You can get the following laptop for $669:

  • Intel Core i5-560M
  • Windows 7 Home Premium
  • 14.0" LCD
  • 4GB RAM
  • 500GB 7200RPM HDD
  • Camera
  • Bluetooth

However you need to ring 1300 554 974 to order. Not available online.

      I don't think so. The 10% off is online coupon, but with Edge 14 you need to ring up.

      spec-wise, this one is not as good as dell xps14 from cotd couple days ago, but in terms of durability, i guess thinkpad rules!

        think the e520 they have on special is comparable to the xps from a cotd, is $729 instead of 649 but they had the newer generation 2410cpu. Graphics card also has the feature where it can turn itself completely off if you're not using it (and use integrated instead)

        think they also have the e420 for the same price which includes a 3g modem inbuilt but a slower slightly slower 2310 cpu.

          e520 is too huge to carry around imo, if you want a e420 with similar spec to the cotd's offer, that costs you around 980 bucks after applying the coupon tho!

          iam thinking of getting e420 if they can make the delivery before the end of next weekend so i can claim gst back since iam going overseas.

      Not this exact one, but the Edge (I guess you can say Lenovo) in general has very high quality. Not very pretty, but durable as hell.

    I got the 13in edge elite package during mothersday sale for $610 with free 500gb usb hdd. Spewing but really needed it at the time.
    The 13in edge is a bit clunky compared to some thin/lights going around these days but does feel a lot more solid.
    There isn't too much bloatware installed either which is a good thing.
    Only drawback is the screen looks a bit small in the frame and the viewing angle isn't amazing.

      Did your 13in edge elite have webcam? I can't find concrete information about it although the specs sheet and images show a webcam in the screen. I can't call Lenovo to verify (or cancel since webcam is essential for me) my order since it's the weekend now…

      Lenovo coupons are activated at unusual hours without prior warnings. Give LATENIGHTSALE a try tonight I guess and it might work.

    I dont understand how Lenovo manages to charge such exorbitant prices for their laptops.

    The specs can't compare with what i can get at dell and yet its about double the price!

      I also think the weight of the machines is one of the most important factors. So I can't find any comparable systems to the Edge 13 in this price range.

      I want to buy the edge 13 then stick a 180GB SSD in there

    I wonder how they came up with the coupon name "TAXPLAY". It has a subtle naughtiness to it, as though by using that coupon you're screwing the tax department :D

    anyone know the battery life on the Edge 13? I'm looking for the cheapest laptop around 13 inch size with at least 6 hours of web browsing battery life? any chance u can upgrade the battery?

    yes the weight is the key selling point to the edge 13. dell vostro v130 is $800ish for similar spec (but a nicer looking, bit thinner bit lighter)

    performance wise its ok for light photoshop use. not fiddling with 20mp images etc.
    battery reports 6 hours in windows, but never used it continually to find out.
    $40 more for more hdd, more ram, bt is no brainer.

          As I have said, Lenovo coupons are simply "weird". It seems their marketing department is not connected to their IT department. They might have the marketing page with the coupon code pushed to their website, but the IT department would then flip the discount switch at the wrong time…

      I think they were in the process of changing specs for the Elite model. The $459 price was with 2GB RAM, but the one that gets brought up if you clicked it had 4GB RAM. Anyway, looks like they've fixed it now.
