  • Luggage is so expensive!

Did 2 weeks in Japan with carry-on only. It's very doable!

+1 - Just came back from a 10 days Japan trip with a small backpack. There are coin laundrys available at most hotels/hostels, so you can do a wash halfway through your trip and save some space in your carry-on. I wouldn't recommend bulky luggage for Japan anyway as you have to do a lot of stairs at metro/train stations and usually there is not much space in hotels or on vehicles.

        • Made this mistake with my partner when we went a couple of years ago, took two huge suitcases. Trips between hotels were very stressful.

      • Yes but then how do i bring home my dozens of anime figures?
But really you are right, i believe if you weren't bringing extra stuff back you could do fine on a well packed carry on.
Sadly i will always be needing checked baggage so i cant take advantage of jetstar deals, but yeah they are damn good for someone who doesn't need the extras

    • Agreed, I personally wouldnt take much there if you're in the really metro/cbd areas.

A little extra for direct flights/baggage is great if you plan on bringing stuff over.

  • Cairns even cheaper

layover kills the syd-tokyo route, $600 with no meal and luggage, only fools will choose it.

    • Yeah, with full service airlines only about $100 extra, I don't see that much value in this deal. The BNE and SYD fares shouldn't be more than $450.

    • Mostly agree (although it's from $560, but still), the Melbourne one was even higher, but I had the numbers to post anyway so figured why not. If I don't there's usually a 'what about Sydney' comment ;)
