  • I was always looking at one of these, but then someone me ruined the Vodafone box! Now which one is the go?

    • +3

      get voda tv

    • The Vodafone tv no longer getting updated. I don't recommend getting it anymore. Unless you really need the live tv tuner.

    • Vodafone TV now unavailable, they stopped selling online. Which means doubt they will keep them updated, if they moving away from selling them

  • +4

Have this, the mi box 3 and the vodaTV.. GET THE VODATV

    • I had a search and couldn't find the Vodafone tv for sale anywhere.

Can you send a link to buy?

      • +4

step 1. walk into vodafone store,
        step 2. buy vodafone TV
        step 3. go home
step 4. plug in voda tv
        step 5. enjoy.

        • Silly me has been looking online.

          I'll check it out today.

          Thanks

          • @Timmyy: to be fair / that said, the store could be out of stock, too, I've been to a couple where it has been in stock though…(when i've checked)

          • @Timmyy: You can buy online with free delivery for the same price (or at least you could a month ago)

        • Not all stores still have stock left

      • Just checked this link, it still let's me order online
        https://www.vodafone.com.au/vodafone-tv

    • Why? Compatibility? Isn't the Mi box more powerful?

  • I've had both the Mi Box and the Vodafone TV, and I'd 100% go with the latter, regardless of the OS updates being slow. Its just a lot more stable, the dedicated Netflix and YouTube buttons are really handy, and I got sick of constantly having to reboot the Mi Box for the latest problem it had encountered. Fyi though, Android TV boxes are not compatible with Google Home devices yet

    • Worth noting that if you use/want Kayo the Vodafone TV doesn't support it.

"We have launched Android TV with devices that provide the best viewing experience. At this stage, Kayo is not supported on Vodafone TV, however it is on our roadmap. For updates on devices, continue to check back here."

    • The lastest mi box also has the Netflix button and is updated to android 8.1 and with news of Vodafone no longer supporting their tv box. Mi Box is the better purchase imo.

    • Able to talk to my google home to turn on my Bravia TV (MiBox 3) and watch YouTube flawlessly. Should be able to sync them up so they can talk to each other.

  • Doesn't the Mi Box S support 4K Chromecast or something? Isn't this better than the VodaTV?

    • Its the same google cast

  • Google home works fine on Nvidea Shield TV.

    • Yeah works fine with my Shield and My MiBox

The title is misleading. You need to buy 5 units to get the price US$56.7.

    • Who doesnt buy in bulk ;)

say 5 for 5 different rooms of the house

    • The title is US $65.75 :P

  • Does anyone know if it has an antenna input so I can also watch free to air TV through it? Have an old TV that does not have digital receiver (but does have HDMI input).

    • Nope, you need to get a HD Homerun

  • I've never used the Voda but I have this Mi Box and I like it… except for the wifi which is weak for some reason. But the OS is clean and snappy and the remote is really good (bluetooth) and the built in chromecast has been useful too.

    • +1

Might be more your router or distance then the box wifi. I have the Mi box 3 in my boys room on other side of house away from a unifi ac pro and no issues at all

  • Interestingly in red, there is a statement that says..

This item cannot be shipped to Australia, Please contact seller to resolve this, or select other countries

    • +1

Sorry Austaurean, I just contact the seller, problem solved :D

  • Points for and against vs RPi4?

    • +1

Android TV, Netflix 4K, android TV Apps, Wife Acceptance, Bluetooth Remote, Kodi/Plex, Youtube 4K, HDMI CEC

  • For….as a kodi media player it's cheap and will soon support 4k, easy to set up and more than adequate to set up as a pvr/tvheadend server. Will handle most video /audio codecs. Fast enough to handle heavier skins.

Against… Again using as a kodi media player, it's not 4k ready yet, software is not stable/released but will be soon. No Chromecast. Need to purchase peripherals if you don't have them laying around, eg power cable/supply, case, ir receiver for remote.

It all depends what you want to do with it though. They are very popular for home automation, educational purposes etc.
