Ok, another great looking deal. This is a "modern style", multi-functional pan that would be great for general frying, but also baking all manner of things.

I also decided to make a second purchase of the 5-piece set (at that price, come on!). They are still available at time of posting this particular pan, for $88.85 here. The price comes down to ~$81 after cashback. Bargain!

If you check the reviews, you'll find some helpful tips on how to use them.

Here, you'll find a User manual, (credit to @TheGhostWhoWalks).

I also recommend you checking out YouTube channels like Townsends, for great recipe ideas from the 18th century. There are bound to be a tonne of channels dedicated to more modern cast iron cooking and recipes, which I look forward to checking out. On @doweyy's original post, a recommendation was made for a YouTube channel called Cowboy Kent Rollins, which has "heaps of recipes and also has advice on how to care for cast iron and comparisons between brands", (credit to @mapax). Like I said, there's bound to be plenty more that suit your tastes, so to speak.

You can find a range of Lodge items here including some lid holders/ removers for safe use (I assume thick tea towels and mits should be fine), Griddles, larger Dutch Ovens, and a bunch of other items, some which I'll use for home, others for camping.

Don't forget your preferred cashback site, and, as always, enjoy!

MAINTENANCE and RESTORATION (Disclaimer - Use this advice at your own risk):

Here is a good video of how to keep your items from rusting in the first place. I don't think those scrapers are absolutely necessary (they were $5 a pair last week but have increased). See the other videos re/ scrubbers, etc, you can use.

Here is a guide from Townsends, a YouTube channel I'm subscribed to, for its historical value.

Here is a restoration guide by Cowboy Kent Collins which looks great! Credit to @mapax, this channel is wonderful. This guy is very endearing. His comments about using "love" and passing down your cast iron to your descendants was charming.

  • Does anyone know if there is a price drop guarantee with Amazon products? I bought the 5 piece lodge set from last deal. It’s now dropped like $20 or so within a week

I chatted with customer service yesterday and they refused to do so.

      • Amazon product prices go up and down all the time.

I had this problem with a lodge skillet. I was informed they don't refund the difference.
Their advice was to send it back for a refund and order it again at the lower price. There was a small fee deducted from the refund.

I ended up buying the victoria skillet instead because the handle was longer and had a more natural curve. This made it much better balanced.

Still trying to work out how to fry bacon and eggs without the eggs sticking to the bacon residue.

    • get 2 pans

    • Yeah probably get two pans. I never had a problem with that because I would cook the bacon first and wipe it down, then spray coconut oil for the eggs. I don't think they have the spray in Australia so would have to buy a jar.

I know it's blasphemy to use soap to clean cast iron but I always did and then followed up by a good rinse and thorough dry. Never had any issues with my lodge pans.

Is there anyone out there that can tell me how to clean the surface rust off my lodge sportsman grill eg. safe rust remover, soaker or meathod to clean it?

Thanks for asking because I now feel more confident about using cast iron. Just need to buy some welding or leather gloves, haha.

      • thank you,

      • Okay, so I set up an electrolysis tank. Its better than new.

        • Just don't get too obsessed with the process, babe.

    • Steel wool/wire brush then season it..

Use it regularly to maintain seasoning…!

  • For anyone wondering if there is a "price-drop" guarantee, think about whether you could buy anything at any shop, and then hear of a sale, or a better-than-the-last-time-sale (at the same place), and ask yourself, would they refund the difference? This is pure silliness.

I mean, I've heard of price-match (prior to order, on a stocked item), but a price-drop guarantee? Good grief.

5-piece has set dropped slightly to $88.85 here

  • Price on this pan has dropped by six cents. Lodge items appear to be all over the place. RRP shows as $450 but prices have been fluctuating between $111 - $170(ish), and then of-course, down to $88(ish).

Here is the Lodge website, which shows (in US$) how much they usually sell their items for.

This is definitely the time to buy, what with the free expedited shipping.

I had to click the link down the side to other sellers to get the $88.85 5 piece set.

This link seems to work now: https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B004QM8SLG/ref=ox_sc_mi…

  • Has anyone got an Aussie receipt for one? Amazon AU and Amazon US both said they wont fix my 11 month old cracked Lodge sportsman grill and to contact Lodge directly. This is getting tedious..
