  • Sorry noob question, what exactly does this as adaptor kit do?
    Just another wifi plug?

    • Not wifi. Internet via your electrical wiring.

Ethernet over power. Basically uses power wiring in your house to send an ethernet signal. It's a bit hit or miss as depending on the wiring setup it may not work well or at all. For me it works great and I get the full speed from my NBN 50/20 through it. It's basically a cheap solution to avoid running ethernet cable through your house. Also you can get adaptors that do both wifi and ethernet.

      • Thanks very much for the reply guys :)

One thing to watch out for - it is a commonly reported issue that the signal might not be able to 'cross' between different power circuits in your house.
So if you want to send the signal between power outlets that are on different power circuits - by this I mean they do not share an RCD at the meterbox - then you might find these don't work.
If you are intending to do this, its worth a few minutes googling to be sure it will work for you.

          • @richox: Technically you meant "circuit breaker" instead of RCD :), but yes, valid point :)

These are awesome. I have four around my place. Great price. Bargain.

    • does it block the other power outlet beside it ?

      • +1

They are pretty bulky so yeah generally they do. You can hook up a power board to the passthrough.

    • They say these should be plugged direct into the outlet but I haven't had too many issues running via a short extension cable. They certainly eat in to the other outlets space.

      • +1

Extension cables are fine; power boards, surge protectors and other devices are not.

        • Agree - I've got both on short extension cables - no issue. It's just extending out the power point.

          • @fookos: Hey thanks for the idea I have the other model without ac passthrough so it blocked the other ac plug

        • Weird, i have mine on a powerboard on both ends and it works fine.

          • @Krad3r: It depends on the powerboard and how it's wired. Most won't work, some will.

  • This is pretty insane price for AV2000

    • for internet (between modem router & PC) it's overkill right ?

      • If the alternative is WiFi then an Ethernet connection will (almost) always be faster. My setup has 4 power lines,
        1.router to power line
        2. Powerline to tv
        3. Powerline to upstairs WiFi extender (which then becomes another access point)
        4. Powerline in my room for ps4/computer

        • i mean the speed , 500Mbps vs 2000Mbps

          • @dcep: For vanilla internet use you're probably doing just fine with what you have.

    TP-Link AV2000 Powerline Adapter Kit

    What a coincidence…

I was just telling our neighbour that we need to adapt our power lines…

  • Thanks folks. Already have a set of these (same model) and happy to add a couple more at a nice price. Paid $107 for the first lot and thought that was good. This price point is even better 👍🏻

I bought these from bunnings to use - https://www.bunnings.com.au/arlec-vertical-double-adapter_p4…
Raises it out so you can still use the other wall powerpoint socket (if a normal plug) - obviously can't do for a wider wall-wart.

    • Nice, thanks for that.
$2.95 at The Good Guys. The bunnings one looks better quality though

  • 0 available :(

  • Apparently these half your bandwidth speed?

    • +2

Not true - I get 115/5 directly connected to my gateway but around 110-113/4.5 with these powerline adapters. Also take into the account that they have to go upstairs and that they are connected to multiple PCs.

    • Depends on your house wiring. I get full speed my NBN 50/20 can do. I haven't tried a LAN transfer though so not sure what the theoretical limit is. The advertised speed on the box is pretty misleading though.
