Can vouch for these being fantastic in Japan. I was beyond drunk one evening freezing my nips off, slipped into Uniqlo and picked this great little jacket up. Super compact too. Fits in the smallest of bags!

    • I bought mine from Japan as well (Was on Sale but still roughly around $60). Same reason. Did not realise it would be so crazy cold. Lesson Learnt - Always listen to the Missus when packing or even better get her to pack your bag.

I wonder how this compares to the Ultralight Down Jacket at ALDI for $49.99 this saturday?

  • Anyone know if Uniqlo use ethically sourced down? Only info I could find on their website says "We aim to use traceable down and feathers which have been certified by Responsible Down Standard (RDS) by 2020.". So what do they use now?

Same ethical procedures as their whales

Will ever removing animals' insulation buy pulling it off from the skin be ethical at all?
Or you just want to sleep well and kidding yourself?
The same goes with cashmere, just google how it got onto your sweater!

Dude, I'm vegan so no need to get all preachy with me. While I wish no one would wear animal products, I know that is not the reality, as such I was trying to politely point people to research where their down comes from without jamming the message down their throats (which I find to be very uneffective). If we act like preachy arseholes all the time it may make us feel superior, but unfortunately it will turn more people off than it will ever win over, might be worth thinking about that?

All I was saying is you Google how it's done, there is no ethical way to do it! Google it then neg me, I'm fine with it

  • Uniqlo had amazing quality last year and the year before last.

I was in store yesterday and these jackets are 3/4 empty! There is absolutely no filling in these at all. I don't know how people are rating these so highly.

The tag said 94g fill weight if I remember correctly, maybe it was 74g..
this is extremely light, well so the industry says.. in this case, extremely empty!

The aldi jacket would have been a better buy.

    • Sounds like their 'ethical sourcing' practices may be eating into their revenue and ability to maintain the same quality. Life's full of trade-offs I suppose. By the way I completely made this up, I have no idea if it's ethically sourced in the first place nor the correlation with quality BUT it's the internet to I can shoot from the hip.

  • These things are OK if you layer up. Survived some snowy weather in Japan and Iceland, but needed 5 layers at times and when the wind picked up, all bets were off. Good if you need a cheap jacket and are willing to layer up.

I would rather have macpac for $99.

I got both, they are got different occasions. Mac is good for very cold days, this is more casual for not so cold days.

  • FYI if you sign up for the "newsletter" with an email address you get $10 off the first order which brings it down to $69.90 delivered.

  • Shows up as $129 for me, I guess this was a one day sale.
