  • Great deal. 100% recommend Quantas if ur travelling to US. inflight service is great

    • +4

You put the U in QANTAS

  • MEL SFO QF runs Dreamliner, it is absolutely fantastic, only omission is WiFi

    • May I ask … What made the QF B787 Dreamliner absolutely fantastic ? And what class (Business, Premium Economy or Economy) ?

Having flown in all 3 classes … IMHO business is excellent. Premium Economy (28 seats) has no dedicated bathrooms so sharing with up to 166 economy pax (4 bathrooms) means forever waiting and I found the seats very tight in pitch when the seat in front was leaning back especially if you didn't have an aisle seat as trying to climb over someone was darn tough. In economy the seats are 17.2" wide vs the B747 & A380 which is 17.5". That extra width becomes very noticeable after just a few hours where shoulders are rubbing with your seatmates. The B787 is starting to be referred to as the Screamliner by pax.

      • Business is much better vs old A380 pods
Economy seat is much better for taller folks - the location of the tray and storage (higher/folding) gives a fundamentally better experience - your knees don't hit the table fold.
Can't comment on premium but I haven't heard good things…
        Toilets? I didn't notice…How often do you go? It's only 14 hours…

        • Across 14-odd hours I do use the toilets especially as we get older combined with staying hydrated on the flight. And having had 1 loo go faulty, the plane is crap (pardon the pun). I've found there always to be lines for the loo in Y on the B787 long haul.

The real disappointment is the reduced seat width in economy on the Screamliner. The further drop on QF (which was already narrow) from 17.5" to 17.2" is very noticeable especially when Emirates run 18" width. All it takes it a pax next to you of normal size and you become shoulder rubbing, man-spreading friends very quickly, let alone a person of modest size. With the Western World population becoming larger vs thinner this does't play out well especially in an overnight flight.

PE is very unfriendly if you don't have an aisle due to the middle 'dividing' section come forward so much.

Business Class … is spot on and QF nailed it there especially with no more sloping pods (though the extra space the Mk II pods created is still rather nice to have in the cabin). Outside or J, PE and Y are horrid vs previous products.
