Can I Pay My Doctor Bill with My Credit Card, but Get The Medicare Refund Paid to a Different Account?

So I've got a doctors appointment later and they don't bulk bill. Normally I pay my bill, and they swipe my card and I get the small gap refund back to my account. But can I pay with a credit card and get the refund paid to my savings account via my EFTPOS card? I've got no confidence that the doctors receptionist will know the correct answer.

Yes, rebate back to the Bank Account you nominated to Medicare.

But, if using a Credit Card, ask if a Surcharge.

    Also, get Receipts.

Medicare refund will go to the bank account listed on your Medicare account. The refund is not done by the clinic.

I do what you're asking at my doc - pay the full fee on whatever rewards CC I have at the time then get the refund put onto my visa debit card.

Why hasn't anyone said "What did Medicare say when you asked them" yet? Poor showing tonight fellow Ozbargainers.

Because typing "yes" is a shorter answer, and we're all about the savings here.

    • I avoid calling Government departments if at all possible
