Whirlpool 60cm Pyrolytic Oven AKP3840PIXAUS $224, AKZ97820IXAUS $419.50 + More C&C (Or + Delivery) @ The Good Guys

1800

Greetings everyone, just spotted this on The Good Guys website and seems like an excellent deal on these Ovens!

50% off a range of Whirlpool Ovens and Cooktops, and the products in the title seem to be great picks of the lot. Unfortunately these products aren't on their eBay store, but still awesome price.

Plenty of these products are their historical lows by a significant margin according to Price Hipster. They are much more expensive at the likes of Appliances Online also so these seem like awesome prices.

Wow. Those prices for Pyrolytic is crazy cheap.

Just be careful guys, I hear they get really hot inside!!

'I hear they get really hot inside!!'

        It's an oven.

      • What the hell!!

    • Can you self install these ovens?

      • +1

If u have a plug in one now

        Type of connection
        15A plug & lead

      • +2

If your current oven is plugged into a socket then I would give it ago. But if it’s hard wired like mine, I you should be more risk adverse. Legally in australia you need an electrician for that.

In the uk I recall as a kid learning how to install a socket on the end of a cable. Electrical appliances never came with the plug just exposed cable. Can’t recall why. Things may have changed that was a long time ago early 80s.

      • +1

Is it common for tradies to be dual certified for plumbing and sparky? Would be nice to only need the one tradey to do the gas cooktop and electric oven (assuming hardwired) in one call out!

        • same, I'm searching for gumtree now to get both of these installed in one go

        • +1

It's not uncommon. All you would need is a plumber with a restricted electrical licence in QLD. Not sure about other states.

      • I think most will be hardwired. I know the AEG we installed not long ago was hardwired, and electrician had to install

    • I agree, thanks very much OP
Two new builds underway - ovens and cooktops sorted!

  • Thank you! Been meaning to pick up a new one last week as the fan has stopped on mine. Buying one of these today. I suppose the most expensive one is the best?

  • I'm considering buying because its just so cheap!, maybe one day i'll do an outdoor kitchen!

    • It's not that model - it's this one - and more than $700 off doesn't sound right to me. How is this possible?

      • +1

I'm comparing the link 4th down in the OP options - the one listed at $209.50

  • Wowee

  • +5

Don’t waste your time with this rubbish I had one of these would not get to temperature no matter how long you left It to preheat.

    Whirlpool = cheap crap!

    • Is it that bad?

    • Interested in more feedback with this too. The issue with our current one is that it basically never gets to temp as soon as it's in fan forced mode, which I just associated with it being "cheap" and it came with the house so probably failing seals.
Hate to buy another oven and basically fix nothing.

      • I think they are owned by the same parent company as Ariston and the uk equivalent Hot Point. They are all manufactured out of Italy but it doesn’t seem like a big deal in Europe. All models are selling at significantly cheap price. Seems like a budget brand.

      • +1

I purchased and installed the AKP3840PIXAUS and its an awesome oven.

In the manual, the first step is to run the oven for 250c for 1 hour.
It got up to that temp in like 5 mins.

So no issue with getting to temp.

    • Which model? The $419 reviews quite well at Choice…

  • +1

Here's the full range of Whirlpool cooking models listed as 50% off at Good Guys - but comparing to other stores, it seems to be more than 50% off.

  • Does the oven boxing etc fit in a car?

    • Could always take it out of the box at the shops if it don't fit

    • +3

Managed to pick up the $419 and bring home in the back of a Golf, self install, up and going in 15 mins. Got mine for $800 Dec last year, goes pretty good, griller only works with door closed!

      • i this exact issue with a lady on product review and a person answer
to her question that it is possible to grill with door open

Insane prices especially for pyro!! I bought a Westinghouse one for almost $1200 last year. A very oven though.

    • +1

Yeah I got my Westinghouse pyro for about $900 2 years ago, although that was via a friend that worked for Electrolux.

  • I noticed the cooktop was on their ebay store which currently has 20% off however it wasn't in stock at any stores near me so delivery wrecked the deal for me but may work for someone else.

  • Nice. There may be some 20% Off on ebay if they are available..I found 1 on my post

  • Are Whirlpool ovens any good?

  • +1

Is there really that much difference between the $224 model and the $419.50 model?
I can see it has the extra bells and whistles like touch screen, telescopic rails, blah blah blah, but a bit like how I pondered in the Kogan air fryer deal I can't see anything to justify (for me anyway) the massive price difference, especially if it is a touch screen that is more likely to piss me off than be nicer to use.

My only concern would be things like cooking quality but that sort of stuff isn't advertised, and they are both "Pyrolytic" ovens. Similarly I'll pay more for reliability but that's hard to gauge here too.

  • Choice says (for the $419 one):
76% performance rating. 3rd past out of the ones shown in mag. 80% perforamnce rating. 66% ease of use…

It is signficantly cheaper than the ones that top the list.
It's probably better than my current one…
What to do what to do…

  • Whats the differences between the 2 pyrolytic ovens?

    • +1

The more expensive one looks like it comes with a meat probe for sensor cook in the pictures, so no dry or underdone roasts. Telescopic runners are a major plus, especially if you need to constantly check or baste your food.Get the more expensive one if you roast alot.

  • $419 one is tempting.

Anyone use GG home install before? Is it expensive?

    • Looks like some come with a plug so see what your old one has if it’s plug or direct if plug easy as

      Type of connection
      15A plug & lead

    • I've used GG home install before and it wasn't very worthwhile. They just subcontract the job so it doesn't end up saving you time or money. I think you'd be better off using some site to find a person yourself.

      • You would be paying for a sparky to do the job so you still up for a bit of cost

    • +1

I recently had a Whirlpool induction cooktop fail under warranty (9mths old) and the refund offered by Whirlpool included having a replacement fitted. GG organised the electrician under their Airtasker platform and it cost them about what it cost me to have the original fitted. My only comment was it insisted on my setting up an account for their GG-branded Airtasker service. Yet another account to keep track of. Install was fine though.

      • Thanks for this.

I tried to go through GG and it would have been $259. I told them no way. They did say it comes with a 6 year warranty for the install, whatever that means, but that's half the cost of the oven.

  • +4

Great oven shit it’s self last night and selling house so this is a real bargain for me added plus son is an electrician 👍

  • Nearest store is Moonah a few hours away… delivery is $250. Absurd. Can you organise your own courier to collect from places like this? Wouldn’t cost half their price.

    • +1

i cant imagine why you couldn't.

Probably only need them to print and attach a consignment label

  • Is the oven easy to install (mainly the powept)

    • As long as current plug is 15A, good to go. If hard wired, don’t try!

      • Whats hard wiring..do you mean just bare lines?

        • +1

It means you need a sophisticated expert tool called a "screwdriver".

        • Hard wiring = hard wired into the house = no plug.

      • if my current plug is 10A. can I use the cheapest one?

        • +3

10A plug would be on a shared circuit, so likely cause the kitchen breaker to trip often.

Ovens should have a dedicated circuit with a 15A socket, even if the oven is only 10A.

But if you are replacing an existing electric oven, and it works, then no problem. Worst case you change the plug.

          • @bargaino: thank you. so I can still buy. right?

          • @bargaino: I went to pick up the oven. unfortunately the staff there said I can't use it as my home plug is 10A unless I change the whole line. I don't understand. sad.

            • @peanutbutter123: Are you replacing an equivalent oven?
Even if I had an A-class sparkie permit, I could not advise you specifically here.

I got the cheaper Whirlpool AKP3534HIXAUS and it is hardwired.

Unless impractical (some apartments) you should have a dedicated circuit.
If the existing 10A outlet is on a shared circuit, you have a problem.
If it is a circuit just for oven (check fusebox), then the 10A socket should have been 15A (you sure it isn't?) and can be converted to hard-wired easily.

              HTH

        • How do i check if it is 10A or 15A?? My apartment is old bulit in 1998, does it say on the fuseboard?, and if it is 10A, do i just change the fuse to a 15A

          • @funnysht: It's highly likely that it will be 15A. You can't just change the fuse; it may need thicker wiring. If you have a socket behind the oven, you can tell if it is 15A because 15A sockets have larger earth pins.

            • @puffinfresh: thanks, will it say on the oven?
also if it is 15A then i can change it, i dont need to change the wires?

              • @funnysht: It might say on a label on the back of the oven, or maybe if you check the manual? If your current one uses a 15A plug, and the new one does, then you can change it yourself. Be aware that ovens come in different sizes (height and depth, not just width), so you will want to check that it's going to fit well and has the right clearance at the back.

      • also looking at the photos on goodguys- the oven has a powerplug not hardwired!
        https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/whirlpool-60cm-electric-oven-…

  • Can anyone comment/confirm where they're MADE IN?

Can someone also confirm if in fact, the RRP was 50% more?

  • Pyrolytic Oven

What is this ? Are they use lazer or plasma to cook food now

    • +1

It's a cleaning mechanism. You take everything out of the oven, put it on pyro mode and it carbonises the bejeebus out of the grease and muck inside. 10000x easier than cleaning it the caustic spray way.

    • +1

      What is this ?

Pyrolytic self-cleaning. Pyrolytic ovens use high temperatures (around 500°C) to incinerate any food residue on your oven walls, turning it into a fine ash. … The process of using heat and pressure to convert organic matter into ash is known as 'pyrolysis' - which is where pyrolytic ovens get their name.

    • it's really a cremation.
      turns everything into ash.

They’re cheap because The Good Guys have deranged in response to Harvey Norman owned distributor Arisit taking over responsibility for the brand.

    Another one found on ebay at ridiculous pricing;

Whirlpool AKT809BA 60cm Ceramic Cooktop - $139.60 after 20% discount. Recived 80% and a Recommended rating in the latest Choice reviews.

    Thanks OP.

  • thanks - bought the Pyro oven and new gas cook top. didn't even need, but might as well upgrade from a 15 year old system

  • Ended up with the cheapest oven. Close enough drop in for my existing one feature-wise and I'll keep the savings for the likely tradey callouts to do "legal" installs.

  • How much does GG charge for the subbies to do the install?

    • Think it's $189 including removal of old.

  • 👍 all ready pick up was out side at 9am WA time didn’t want to be told it was an error, staff were amazed at the price

  • +1

The clock on my oven is half dead and it's annoying me. I'm not sure that's enough of a reason to buy a new oven, but they're sooo cheap!

  • I'm on the hunt for a cheap 75cm oven (75cm W x 60cm H). For some reason there are plenty of cheap 60x60, plenty of cheap 90x60 but all of the 75x60 are over a grand. If anyone can make a recommendation I would greatly appreciate it!

    • +3

Fill in the gap and pocket the savings.

  • Any gas ovens?

These prices are EXTRAORDINARY! I've been on the watch for a new, low-price oven for ages. I can't believe I've just paid $224 for the same oven AppliancesOnline is pricing at $1049 - holy cow!! Thank you for the AWESOME share @doweyy
