Pretty good price. I recall this being $20-25 several years ago when I got into cubing

    • +17

Cubing is a thing? Did you spell clubing wrong?

      • +33

Don't think he did but u have

Did you spell clubing clubbing wrong?

        • +4

I gave you both plus votes!

The first burn was nice (intention B+, execution C-), but the second flippity flop burn was great (A+).

Thank you for the entertainment :).

      • +1

Oops meant speed cubing hahaha. Granted I was slow as heck

    • -1

Wouldn't touch this cube with a 10 foot pole.

  • +27

No idea if anything has changed recently but Rubik's brand cubes were worse than cheap Chinese ones when I was into cubing a few years back.

    • +3

Still true. Can grab a cheaper cube then this that will be a lot better.

      • +3

If you want slightly cheaper, I just got the D-FantiX Guanlong Speed Cube for $9.99 on Amazon.com.au. Excellent quality. Any of the D-Fantix ones are great. I feel smart just messing up the cube. So smooth it makes one handed solves a lot easier.

        • +1

I just cancelled my Rubik's order and went with one of these D-FantiX cubes… the jelly one. Thanks

          • @So lo: I hadn't seen that one! Very nice! I'm colour blind, so kept with the bog standard one.

        • D-FantiX is a seller, they don't make cubes lol.

      • +5

Yep, this is my go to budget cube: https://www.speedcube.com.au/collections/regular-cubes-2x2-3…

$7.50 + 5 for postage, brings it under this deal. (I think) it's a local business too.

I get that people like the brand recognition of the original, but the Rubik is such a horrible experience compared to the unmitigated joy of using one of the Chinese speed cubes.

      • than*

    • +2

Yes, the cheap Rubik’s are pretty lame in that they are quite stiff to turn.
The cheap Chinese ones like Morang Jiaoshi or Qiyi which cost under $10 are a pleasure to use in comparison.

    • +1

I bought 6 of these to use with a Lego EV3 cube solver, and they don't work. The last lot I bought ~4 years ago were fine. It seems they've changed the materials used for official cubes over that time.

    • Could not agree more. Rubix could be better for a beginner but it is very rigid and got a slow movement. If you want value for money speed cube, you can go for Qiyi Warrior.

  • +1

I still haven't forgiven Rubik for the Link the rings scam. They're different rings.

    • Scam? I've still got mine… definitely solvable from linked rings to open rings. I can still remember most of the pattern.

      • +1

Nah, the open rings are still open and the linked rings are on the other side. They were pre-linked all the time. I'm still devastated. Almost as much as finding out the pyramid corners can't move and snake only really turns into a ball, python or schoolyard weapon.

        • hahaha

I purchased from a comment in this deal ~6mths ago, USD$2.95 with free shipping..

    Great cubes, stickerless & a nice feel…

    https://cubezz.com/Buy-5199-QiYi+Warrior+W+3x3x3+Stickerless…

Kudos to @Daabido for the link…

    • Probably a lot better too.

    • Thanks mate. Bought one. Looks solid.

      • -1

If you get into cubing, you'll find one cube is not enough. It's a pretty cheap hobby though.

        • Its for my kid. If he enjoys it, will definitely get more.

    • I decided to save money by ordering from here instead of the deal, and ended up ordering so much. The OzBargain way

    • Thanks, bought one. And then two more…

    • I also got my cubes from them a few years ago, can recommend.

  • Seems expensive

  • The bonus stand is actually the description on the Amazon page

  • +2

Don’t buy a Rubik’s brand cube. They feel awful.
I know it seems like you should buy the “official” brand one but it’s honestly not the case.
A lot of much better and cheaper options out there (plenty mentioned above).
    I bought a cheap one from www.speedcube.com.au

  • +4

Agree with others, the Rubik brand cubes are rubbish. Can get a much better abd cheaper cube from speedcube. And if you are in Melbourne and have an interest it is well worth visting their shop in Blackburn to see and try all the different types of cubes. If you are lucky You may also see some geeky kids solving them faster than you thought possible.

  • I can do all the layers except the last, I keep forgetting the steps for each scenario to many

    • -1

After you solve the first two layers, do the top next, then corners and middle pieces on the top layer.

      • +1

I understand the process just forget the algorithms, eg with 1 dot, cross, and the other scenarios.

        • +1

You only need to memorize how to handle two adjacent corners or middle pieces, then just do it multiple times to match any possible scenario. It won't be the fastest way but gets the job done.

    • Check out https://www.speedsolving.com/wiki/index.php/Human_Thistlethw… if your looking for a solution that doesn't involve remembering long strings of moves.

  • Optimus Prime
"One of my favourites as a kid and still is"

Do you make transformer (shape-change) noises while solving? 😁

    • +1

Nup. I do the stop, drop and roll.

    Metric or Imperial cube then?

  • I wouldn't recommend buying the Rubik's brand cube. They are really shitty. It's better to go for a speed cube like a dayan zhanchi or a dayan guhong. You can easily find those on eBay. I've had my Dayan Guhong V2 for about 3 years now.

    • +1

the zhanchi and guhong are very outdated now, better to go with something like a yuxin little magic or a qiyi sail

  • +2

Don't get the Rubik's brand. Here are the 4 I bought from speedcube.com.au and the price I bought them at. They're all quite different and all quite cool and better and smoother than the original Rubik's cube.

    MoFang JiaoShi MF3RS2 3x3x3 SPEED CUBE (Cubing Classroom Series) - STICKERLESS(bright) $8
    QiYi Warrior W 3x3x3 56mm STICKERLESS SPEED CUBE - STICKERLESS $7.50
    YJ YuLong V2 M 3X3X3 MAGNETIC SPEED CUBE - STICKERLESS $11
    ShengShou Mr.M 3x3x3 MAGNETIC SPEED CUBE - STICKERLESS $14

$5 shipping for all 4 in one package. I also bought some speed cube lubricant but I'm not interested in actual speed and I could have done without it. In fact I still haven't bothered to memorize beyond the first layer.

No affiliation with speedcube.com.au. Get 'em elsewhere if you can find them cheaper. And of course you might only want to bother getting 1.

    • So what one do you prefer and why?
      Also what’s a magnetic cube?

      • magnetic cubes have small neodymium magnets in each piece, and allow the cube to snap into place at each turn. this mainly aims to assist with turning accuracy at speed. most cubers prefer more subtle feeling magnets, as they can still assist with turning but without requiring too much force to "break" the magnetic pull to turn the cube

they've become a thing just over the last couple of years, and every fast person i can think of uses magnetic cubes

      • I personally am not fussy, and a large part of that is because I don't care about speed cubing. I am very firmly in the beginner category. I have no interest in the speed side at all and just want to get to the point where I can do it without referring to a guide or messing it up.

one thing I do care about is that they're stickerless. I don't want stickers that come off in my hands.

All have their advantages and disadvantages which I researched before buying. I played with tightening one, and I played with lubing another with the special lube but I've just found I can pick up any cube and be happy enough with it and overlook the disadvantages.

If forced to pick one probably the QiYi Warrior W because it's the cheapest and it feels quite good.
People either love or can't stand the texture on the Mr. M.
MFSR2 doesn't let you flip corners creating an unsolvable cube. But that's not a huge concern on any of these cubes if you're not going to speed cube.
Same goes for the magnets. They might make a bigger difference if you're going for speed but for me they're just a nice little addition.
Mr. M definitely isn't worth twice as much as Warrior W to me.
All are much much better than Rubiks brand or the awful oversized cubes I bought for $2 from the bargain shops about 15 years ago.

My purpose in buying all of these was to get a feel for different cubes without having to attend cubing events or get into that scene at all.

  • Not sure if the timing of the promotion is coincidental but next weekend is the rubiks cube world championships and it will be in Melbourne

    • I hope feliks wins!

  • A true Ozbargainer would make their own Rubik's Cube, probably from "borrowed" supplies:
