  • Is this the smart charger?

    • Nope, overnight charger

    • It's the "10 hour" charger, a dumb charger. If you use it, you'll be lucky to get 200 charge cycles from your batteries before they die. Dumb chargers damage batteries.

Eneloops are good, but the chargers that come bundled with them are usually CRAP. Panasonic (and Sanyo before them) do/did make smart chargers, but they are pretty rare, and this isn't one of them.

Thanks OP. Needed some more AAA's.

    • Is $18 for 4xAAA considered a bargain?

      • Tbh can't comment. My OzB Eneloop knowledge is not as good as others.

However, these 950mAh have more capacity then other rechargeable AAA's I've used.
They last longer, so I'm happy :)

Ikea also sell chargers, and one of the chargers Ikea sells is a smart charger: the LADDA charger. It is the cheapest smart charger currently available.

Just be careful, Ikea sell several chargers, and only the LADDA charger is a smart charger. Don't buy any of the other chargers Ikea sell.

Price of the LADDA charger is $25, but you can get $10 off a single purchase if you join "Ikea Family" (free to join).

If you're willing to spend a little more, the Nitecore D4 and the Liitokala Lii-500 are significantly better chargers (a proper display instead of a lamp that lights up when your batteries have finished charging), and are available for about AU$30.

  • So I have 2 eneloop packs of AA and AAA already. They're still unopened after 2 years. Is there anything I can use them for?

      Tongue tickles

You should do some test tickles first.

Why would they package two chargers?

  • Apart from the chargers, is this a better deal? https://www.amazon.com.au/Panasonic-BK-3MCCA16BA-Pre-Charged…

    • Much better. The chargers are worthless in my opinion, they are dumb chargers, and dumb chargers damage batteries.
