Slightly cheaper if purchased through the App.

~AU$10 cheaper than than this recent post

this item ships from China.

if you want it from an Oz based supplier then on Ebay, $31.99 with AU plug, using code POLAR20: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/352648644849

The one in this deal does not come with an AC adapter. For mine I used the AC adpater from an old Optus ADSL modem

If you're wondering "why buy this one instead of a cheaper one", this charger lets you test your batteries, so you know how much capacity is in them, and you can recycle the dying batteries at Aldi.

For AA NiMh batteries of 2000mAh (standard Eneloops), I recommend a charge current of 700mA.
For AA NiMh batteries greater than 2000mAh, I recommend a charge current of 1000mA.
For AAA NiMh batteries I recommend a charge current of 300mA.

I use my Liitokala Lii-500 to test the capacity of 18650 cells which have been reclaimed from old laptop batteries.

  • Thanks for the good info.
Was looking for a deal on this one given the recent other Liitokala deal.

  • +1

its ali express - currently by far the worst platform going. disputes are a friggin nightmare - recharge your card usually only way forward. most of the stores like gearbest, banggood, joybuy are easier to deal with and usually ship whereas many of the stores on aliexpress are crooks protected by ali expresss. The place gives China a bad name.

    • Ditto. I got stung a few times buying stuff only to find out it is not as described or broken when received. Their dispute process is a nightmare. The backpack I got was advertised as genuine leather but turned out to be pu leather. I got back less than half what I paid.

  • this is a very good one. I have been using it for years.

  • Thanks, bought the eBay one with the adapter.

    • better platform and ebay ain't great but compared to ali its much better

  • This or the 500S?

    • What's the price difference? They look basically the same, just the 500S has a touchscreen

      • The polarity on the 500s is the other way around. Easier to insert the batteries

      • Apparently 500S also has:

        • Support for 21700 cells.
        • More spacing between slots.
        • 2A max charging current.
        • no 300 mA charge rate.
        • no 300 mA charge rate.

          bad for AAAs. strange move

  • Just got the 500s. It's about the same as the 500. Screen is heeps easier to read. Not sure if it does ir however tests prove the 500 wasn't accurate with it results anyway.

  • I bought one of these 500 models but think now in hindsight I should of spent a few more bucks and purchased the
latest 500S model…"generally" a new model of something like this is released for a reason.
Nevermind, fortunately I'm not a power user with a power wall of LiPOs.

    • Main drawback of 500S seems to be the lack of 300mA charging. I've read it's not a good idea to charge small capacity AAAs at 500mA

      • +2

I have read the same about AAAs but have also read 500mA is fine, so not sure lol. I've been charging at 500mA because of the various articles like lygte linked below saying the current has to be high enough to enable -dv/dt termination.

This article seems to suggest it's fine - Conclusion - 'If the current is selectable, it must be high enough to enable -dv/dt termination on -dv/dt charges, i.e. 0.5A for AAA and 1A for AA is fine.'

Also this suggests the same 'My recommendations for manual chargers; (charge rate: 0.3C-1C). This is also the recommended charge rate by Maha/Powerex. An Eneloop technician actually recommended charging with .5C - 1C.

  • So assuming the 500S is the 'upgrade' buy, what's - good price for it?

This is the only price I've found for it: $37.72
