    • Most likely an automated system or someone part of the US support team with no knowledge this deal was being run had seen this deal and thought it was fishy and thought the account had been compromised. It did indeed sound fishy, a 11 yr old account with no sales since 8yrs ago recently became active selling airpods for a bargain…

      • Holy crap. Is that right? I thought it was odd. The person didn't seem high profile enough to do this deal.

Wonder what the f has gone on.

        • It's genuine I believe just someone from the US department probably thought it was a fake deal because of what I mentioned above.

Some people above said their airpods have shipped so we'll wait and see :)

          • My orders been reinstated so
      • I guess we might get an indication if they can't deliver 800 Airpods by the delivery date, then it might be a sign that they had to source them elsewhere to prevent a PR disaster.

  • I only received the first email but not the second one? Do I need to get in touch with ebay in order for them to send me the reassurance email?

  • +3

This is whole saga does nothing to increase confidence in eBay. I've found the whole site to just be full of scams, inferior products/fakes, rip offs, etc. Nothing about it instills any confidence from a buyers' side (and it seems to be just about as bad for sellers as well).

  • Just saw this on Yahoo News

  • LOL, they only used that so people would stay on the eBay page and not on Amazon!

    • -4

Huh? What was going on at Amazon at the time?

      • If you aren't aware of what was happening at Amazon at the time you might as well crawl back under your rock.

        • To be fair, there weren't many decent deals on products that were popular.

  • Lol. Intelligent eBay is.
Perfect way to delete history for all the AirPods purchased as promotion. Who knows there were many dummy purchases. Then honour AirPods to some genuine purchases.
    Well done eBay.

  • Got a postage notification from Titan Gear.

  • Yeah mine is apparently on its way

    • What batch did you get yours in? I got mine at 12pm but am yet to receive any shipping confirmation.

      • 4pm.

I got a notification from Aus Post. Not ebay.

  • Hmm, my order from 11am hasn't shipped.

    • It’s not an ebay notification. My email account is registered with Australia post so I got the notification from them.

      • My eBay account's email is also registered as well, just no e-mail yet for this particular item for me.

  • -2

    Too good to be true

  • i rang to see what is happening added it was a ebay sale you advertised so you should honour do not just want $99 refunded.
She said we open a case as there seems a problem.
I then get case closed refunded $109
Then get an email like the rest do not worry about original email you will get your airpods.
ring back and get oh we cancelled your order not sure we can un cancel.
I said I never ask for it to be cancelled.
They said escalated someone get back to you tomorrow.

    great just great.
If I did not ring to ask about email I would of been fine.. now it seems too hard..
Probably should of left it for a day and let someone else ring from here. had 5 mins free now look stuffed.

    they backpeddled on the backpeddle.

Claimed the account was compromised and when they realized they would not get away with the PR hit, just claimed the previous "compromised" claim was an error. They got caught lying and had no choice but to honor it. They probably thought people were going to believe it and leave it at that. Fools.

The price did seem a little too good to be true for an Apple product I have to admit.

    • They've made it pretty clear that they're honouring the deal by all the communication they've been putting out, and there's nothing to suggest the original "compromised account" emails weren't a mistake.

      • They've made it pretty clear that they're honouring the deal by all the communication they've been putting out,

Yes after everyone posted evidence they were lying about the account being compromised. It's much easier to call it an error than admit it was a lie.

and there's nothing to suggest the original "compromised account" emails weren't a mistake.

How does a mistake like that happen? Someone had to type it out. It wasn't a generic cut n paste. It referenced the item itself. Someone consciously typed that and sent it out.

        • eBay told Yahoo Finance the deal triggered the online retailer’s security system.

“eBay’s $99 deal on AirPods seemed too good to be true. As a result, it triggered our automatic fraud detection system.”

“Some buyers may have received an email suggesting the transaction was from a compromised account and cancelled.”

“This isn’t the case. Those 800 buyers who took advantage of the AirPod deal, will receive them. Our advice to buyers is to ignore the email and its suggested actions. We apologise for any confusion caused.”

          • +1

@cuzzybro: haha.. ebay offering a deal that they should have known would trigger their fraud detection system. The price they set, they should have known from the beginning this would happen but went through anyway, and didn't turn off the fraud detection or add an exception for the white list?

I would accept that they have an automatic fraud detection system. But that they did not have the foresight to know this deal would trigger it is hard to believe.

            • @lostn: True.
Who really knows if the email was a mistake or something more sinister.
It’s been a bit of a rigmarole, but at the end of the day, $99 airpods might be worth it.

            • +1

@lostn: You say it's hard to believe their automated system could possibly have a false positive, yet your alternative explanation is that eBay advertised a deal, changed their minds and faked an "account compromised" email to get out of the deal, but they didn't anticipate customers of the deal would be upset so within hours they changed their minds again and falsely claim the "account compromised" email was a mistake

I mean a simple error with their automated system seems like a much more likely scenario, but hey maybe you're right 🙄

    • Lol I'm sure they where suppose to be $199 but forgot to put 1 in front and tried to sneak out of the deal.

All the best to who ever purchased them someone,s going to get fired. :)

So called eBay after I raised a dispute following the transaction compromised email and was then given a full refund . After talking to several eBay customer reps trying to reinstate the transaction as I much prefer the airpods for $99 then a refund as I wasted the whole day trying to get hold of one during the sale but was told by the customer service supervisor that it is not possible for eBay to reinstate the transaction again after it has been refunded . People who are being told by eBay reps about transaction being reinstated after the refund are being mislead and should call and complain to eBay.

    • +1

the last crap I got was they where going to check with seller if they had to to re instate the refunds.
time before was do not worry you get them
time before that was sorry looks like you missed out.
change the story each time you ring

      • competely agree with you there. I think ebay should bite the bullet and reinstate the transaction because if it wasnt for there first email in relation to transaction comprimised , no one would have opened a dispute.

        • ebay taking the L - no way.

  • -2

I missed all the action, what happened with eBay?

  • I got mine delivered,

    It says made for Malaysia

    • "made for Malaysia". Think they sent you the wong model.

      • Model is correct A20232 A2031 A1602 which is Airpod2 lightning charger.

    • that was quick!

    • Wow that was quick, mine just says Shipping information approved by Australia Post.

    • Do you live in Sydney?

      • Yes

  • Yup made for Malaysia

      Doesn't matter. AirPods are AirPods.

  • what’s with all the drama?

  • I stupidly asked refund after received the first "error" email as Ebay suggested. And received an email from Ebay says they refund me immediately.
Later I called Ebay and asked them to cancel the refund, they said they will try. Nothing happened after they tried a whole day now.

I am wondering why they are able to refund me immediately after I open a case but take more than 1 day to reverse it?

    • Not that I have any experience in these things but I would assume your refund of the purchase is a simple reversal, which they did at your request.

But to reverse the reversal after it's already happened would be like taking out another transaction on your card?

I assume there are processes in place to allow them to refund people efficiently but it would be rare for someone to ask for a reversal on a refund request, hence why you haven't heard anything after a day.

      • as i mentioned above, they are misleading you if they say the transaction will be reinstated after the refund , it is not possible as far as the supervisor at ebay told me, so pretty much u cannot get the airpods at $99 again

        • That's really pathetic.

          • @Levathian: Then give a ebay voucher which can be used elsewhere

  • has anyone from 11am batch received shipping information ?

  • Rang again
Said I never asked for a refund so you stuffed up twice
They said management looking at it now as I am not the only one
I said on twitter and eBay you say everyone will get one so why is it not sure now

    • Me too. We will see what happened next.

      • Not happy I said do not cancel

  • Duplicate

  • Just got notification from eBay with shipping confirmation. 12pm batch. ACT.

    • Ditto, shipping info provided on eBay and marked as shipped. 1PM VIC

  • Just tried to buy something else from eBay & my account was flagged for "further verification needed". Happened to anyone else?

Not sure whether due to this "fraudulent activity" stuff-up triggering something automatically, or Paypal 2FA not playing nice with eBay's checkout at the moment (meaning I had to try several times to get a payment method attached)… or eBay just being annoying. :-s

  • Received eBay shipping notification. 10am batch

  • Did anyone that cancelled manage to get them to send them out still?

    • Not I. Been back and forth, hopping on chat now as I was told 24 hours yesterday right after the email went out saying to not cancel the orders. Been pretty ridiculous so far. Not got much hope.

    • In the same boat! They need to honor this..

      • Or they need to credit the $150

    • Same boat

      • did chat.. still with management.. The chat girl said she could see I did not ask for refund although the case person put it through.
So I said what are you doing.. Still with management

        total stuff up there end..

  • Mine just got shipped. 3PM batch.

Haha will be interesting to see the cost vs benefit analysis of this ‘deal’ against an OzBargainer’s time during the bidding and post bidding process. The things we do to save a few dollars. Anyone else see the funny side of this? Heh.

    • $150 saving on a product that almost never gets a price-cut. Bidded and been trying to sort this out whilst doing other things. My friend, the savings will always outweigh the time spent :)

      • +1

It's also part of the fun….. Or am I just sad?

        • Could be fun depending on how much your value your time. Time is one of those commodity which no one can buy back or rewind. It’s a one way ticket to paradise :)

    • Doesn't matter got lai.. a bargain

      • My son paying me with his birthday $$. If I do not get one I be the one $150 out. 😀😀
Wonder how many they did refunds on
I did not ask for refund rang to see why cancel email
Said you need to honour as your deal
They said they get back to me once investigated
        then they refunded it
Then I get email saying do not worry it go through
Ring they said refunded now not sure they can help
I said I never asked for refund they in ask manager stage now

        Total stuff up

        • Your scenario is really effed up..

          • @chriise: thanks.. they say now they should never done the refund when I rang and asked about cancelation email
although cannot revert so working out what they do now with management still

total stuff up.. look here everyone getting theirs a total mess.

            • @davemc: Shouldn't be too difficult.. $150 gift voucher should do the trick. +$10 for your trouble.

        • -2

          Is that you IVI?

  • Those who have received their airpods, did it come with a tax invoice? How would we claim warranty for this item?

    • +1

Warranty is attached to the serial number. Don’t need a receipt/tax with Apple, they have a record.

    • Anything Apple or Microsoft, does not need a receipt. Once you start using it the serial number is registered as the start day of the warranty.

You can usually see this in your registered devices against your account.

  • +1

    Received Today - Sydney.
No invoice or anything.. Just a box of Airpods in a bubble wrap envelope thing.

  • wondering why cancelled.

  • I managed to get a $10 refund for the extra I was charged for shipping.

    https://imgur.com/a/eMRI5FM

    • Thanks for that, will try to chat to ebay again tomorrow.. They seemed very adamant on not refunding me the $10.

  • +2

This is the most awesome thing to occur. Ever!

    First advertise $99 airpods.

Then cancel the sale of the $99 airpods.

    Watch everyone get a refund.

Then send airpods to people who complain.

(and because your ebay you give zero crapola about users).

But you get the initial publicity for free and suck in all the suckers.

    • I didn’t complain and still got it

      • -3

Wow…. then there must be no problems…

Wonder why someone would make this post then?

Could you give us an answer?

  • I believe this is called "bait advertising" which is illegal.

There is no possible way that this is to do with an account being "compromised" when it was a large banner that was created for the front page of their website, by ebay themselves, which we all saw.

    Somewhat dubious.

Got a pair and i didn't even get a successful purchase on the day. Justice boys

    • For real?

    • What do you mean?

      • On the day, every attempt i made to purchase them failed, basically never got past checkout.
Then the day after, money comes out of my credit card and i get a tracking number haha

    • Got a pair and i didn't even get a successful purchase on the day

Time to grow another pair! 😬

  • I received them today but I found that the Serial Numbers for the left and right buds are different. Is this normal?

    • +1

      Explained here, you're all good.

With AirPods (2nd generation), each AirPod also has its own serial number, printed on the AirPod itself. If you need to send your AirPods or charging case in for service, refer to the primary serial number, printed on the case lid. You don't need the serial numbers on the AirPods.

      • Cool thanks!

Looks like eBay have … $99 problems
