Agreed, great phone and great price! Anybody had any experience buying from Toby’s deal? Are these subjected to the customs/import tax etc? Aus warranties?

    • +2

Someone commented in the Mi 9T thread yesterday. Purchased weeks ago, still waiting to be shipped so may not actually be in stock. This one may be different.

    • +2

      Aus warranties?

      Bwaaa haaaa haaa!
Fakkk no. They are overseas sellers.
They are outside the ACCC jurisdiction.
They wouldn't give a shyt about the Australian consumer law.

I bought the Mi9 from the official Australian Xiaomi store on eBay.
Because they trade directly in Australia, they must follow the Australian Consumer Law.
When an OTA bricked my Mi9, Xiaomi Australia replaced my phone quick smart and I'm very happy about it.

I would probably not have gotten the same treatment as an overseas seller. Once they have your money, it will be hard to chase them.

    • I bought a Mi9 SE from them, phone was shipped quickly and no problems so far. Amazing value.

      • Did you have to pay any import/custom tax or anything?

        • Nope. Listed price was all I paid.

  • Great deal considering the price of the Mi6T, definitely a better flagship phone. Just remember tobydeals charges extra for postage if not in the city. Very unfortunate as i went with another seller (gearbite) because of it.

    Standard Shipping Method AU$33.90
    - Shipping Time: 6-8 Working Days
    - Remote area surcharge is included.

      You either meant

      GearVita

      or

      Gearbest

    • Yea this deal really makes the iPhone XS and XS Max price stand out :)

This phone is approx 4 times cheaper than it, however, the speeds are still better. It's crazyyyyy

  • Hardware looks good but I just can't stand Xiaomi bloat.

    Waiting for Pocophone 2.

    • +2

You could flash custom ROMs like MIUI EU. I did with my MI8, although I don't see much benefit doing so. Stock global ROM is reasonably fast, the bloat apps aren't intrusive either.

      • wrong person sorry.

    • Is this the Pocophone 2? aka Redmi K20 Pro aka MI 9? Or do you think pocophone will actually release a f2?

  • +4

No micro SD slot or headphone jack.

Why do they put such a small battery in it?

    • +1

I thought the same but bought one anyway. It actually has quite a spectacular battery life.

  • -5

Battery life is pretty bad but good deal

    • +2

So you have one? Explain why its bad? Or is it anecdotal?

      Check this out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YoSYD_bO3q8
Better than the iPhone, 7Pro, S10 but didnt beat the P30 Pro.

It has a fantastic endurance rating according to gsmarena: https://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=9623&idPhone2…

…I still agree it could do with a bigger battery, but making silly comments like this will put people off a fantastic phone with limited evidence.

    • Judging by specs and reviews, this phone's battery life is fairly similar to its predecessor Mi 8, which last from morning til bed time for me with frequent browsing, youtube and mails. I previously owned Samsung S8 which lasted a fair bit shorter, so I say the Mi 8/9 battery is decent, not super great but far from bad.

      • I have an S8 now and wondering if I should upgrade. Is this significantly better?

        • From S8 to Mi8 is a fairly good upgrade (I have no complains with the S8 though, only upgrade because my wife needed a new phone). Mi9 is better (also much smaller notch!). A few quick points on Mi8 vs S8

          • 20% longer battery for my usage (heavy user but no gaming)
          • Both have nice OLED screen, S8 is more eye catching, but I feel Mi8 is more true-to-life.
          • Mi8 has significantly better camera / image processing. You can also install Google Cam in most Xiaomi phones which yield even better still images quality.
          • Mic is average, for some weird reason some apps have very low mic volume. Facebook Messenger, Skype, Whatsapp call quality is good though.
          • Speaker is bad on both, but then the xiaomi phones are ~$500, so no complain here. When Xiaomi start putting Stereos speakers on their flagships, I'll upgrade my phone.
          • MIUI goodness? The UI is responsive, and the gestures completely remove the need for the bottom navigation buttons. I enable gestures on day 1 and simple can't go back to other phones. Gestures apps on S8 is laggy, and interfering with Samsung Pay.
          • @Kingduytan: Good information… But this deal is for the Mi 9 :)

            • @Zackeroo: True. I follow the Mi9 reviews closely to see if there is any significant change compare to Mi8. It seems this gen is just a minor spec pump and smaller notch, so I think most of the comparisons to Mi8 still applies.

I agree with you on waiting for a new phone, however. I wouldn't have upgraded from S8 if I didn't need to buy a new phone urgently. It took a while for xiaomi to improve camera performance of their flagships, I hope they'll also improve mic and speakers quality soon.

              • @Kingduytan: Couldn't agree more :)

Personally I wouldn't upgrade yet if I had an S8

              • @Kingduytan: Really appreciate your thoughts. Thanks for such an in depth answer.

        • The S8 is still quite a good phone at the moment. It still receives official Samsung updates and supports the ONE UI. If you are moving from Samsung to Xiaomi you will see quite a big change in the overall design of the operating system.

Many of the features of the Mi 9 might not feel as premium as the S8, however, Xiaomi aims to use the power of performance to substitute for this.

It all depends on you, however, I feel like if I was in your position, I would wait and then buy a new phone later on. I have an S7 Edge right now which is completely modded and overclocked, however, I will upgrade to the Note 10 when it releases.

          • @Zackeroo: Thanks Zackeroo! It's really nice to know what your getting into when you change brands.

    • i have one and the battery life is fine, solid 30-40% left at the end of the day and im a power user.

      • Agreed, same here…. great battery life

      • Just out of curiosity, how much screen on time do you manage on a usual basis??

  • +1

    Is that global version?
    Any deal on 128gb version?
    Thanx

  • The processor and ram makes it really attractive. The only thing that's holding me back is there's top speaker, and image processing/video is back and forth between the Mi 9 and the pixel 3a.

    • +2

Yea ikr. This processor is amazing. It's the same which all the flagship phones use such as the S10 line, OnePlus 7 line and some other popular new flagship phones

  • +1

Great price for a 2019 flagship spec with SD855!

  • wow, even better then GEARVITA deal before,Igot it just above $600.nice phone at this price.
