USB-C to HDMI Adaptor $15, USB-C to HDMI Cable $19 @ Kmart | 28 Day Returns

171

I've seen a few USB-C to HDMI posts recently and got interested in them myself. Obviously there are a tonne of really cheap ones on eBay that probably don't work well and will be a hassle to get a refund on, but I stumbled across Kmart's offerings for their internal brand "Anko" (apparently it's an extension of all their basic Products'&Co').

What caused me to submit this, however, is because Kmart is pretty accessible to a lot of Ozbargainers, and the store has a fairly good returns policy (e.g. most Kmart staff probably don't care enough to question you much or at all, versus the hassle of trying to send something back to say China/HK via an ebay transaction).

The options I've found:

Anko USB-C to HDMI Adaptor $15

-Adaptor
-Universal
-High definition video output up to 1080p
-Digital audio output
-15 cm cable length
-Compatible with Smartphones Samsung S8/S8+/NOTE8, Laptops equipped with USB-C Apple MacBook/MacBook Pro, Lenovo and Hewlett Packard
-HDMI cable not included
-Other devices may encounter compatibility issues
-Colour: Silver

Anko USB-C to HDMI Cable Adaptor $19

-USB-C to HDMI display cable
-Cable length: 3m
-Supports video output from USB-C devices to HDMI-enabled display device (e.g.. monitor, TV)
-Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) cable and mould
-Colour: Black

Further specs on supported resolutions and frequencies, however, are unknown. If someone can get the details on them I'll be happy to amend this post.

  • whats the difference btw the 2 cables? (apart from price)

    • I have a feeling you didn't read the specs :)

One requires a separate HDMI cable (per the photo), the other goes direct from USB c to HDMI at the other end.

    • One is a dongle - male usb to female hdmi - need a hdmi to hdmi cable to plug it into a monitor etc. The other is a cable - male usbc to male hdmi. In terms of what conversion if any takes place inside who knows.

ah my bad. yes thanks all for the answers. :)

I've used these for years (this is the standard price). 2 X Monitors works fine for my MBP 2017.

Well, I guess I beat you to it for posting? :)

  • No 4k compatible ones…

    • Yeah unfortunately that doesn't surprise me for the price =/

Yeah, but welcome to 2019. My question was less 4k, but does it do 4K at 30hz or 60hz…
If it doesn't do 4k then it is useless… 2min looking easily produced 4k at 60hz at under $20

    • Bought a C to VGA converter on the weekend in Bunnings. They had a C to HDMI 4K one there, I wonder if Kayo broadcasts in 4K :)

Anyone try this with a nintendo switch?

    • Bought and tried a few days ago, switch does not go into TV mode.

      • I don't think anyone has found a way to trick the switch into going into tv mode without connecting through the oem dock yet

FWIW, I have one of the "really cheap ebay ones" and it works fine. I have the common one which is USB-C -> HDMI, USB3.1, USB-C

    • Awesome, can you link us to the one you have and let us know what device it works on? I'm hoping to find something for my Note 9

This is what I use for my Note 9 and at $29 for the official Samsung cable, it's hard to beat (just need to find a store that has stock) otherwise it's usually a ≈$60 purchase.

And, yes - it supports 4K resolution.

        • Bugger, it says discontinued and is unavailable.

I've been keeping an eye on some of the official samsung cables but the cheapest I've seen (incl delivery to Perth, or local pickup) is about $53.

        • Does Netflix work from your Samsung onto the TV/monitor? I have a Dell dongle which Netflix just errors after a couple seconds… I suspect the app knows I'm no longer watching on my little screen. Don't really want to buy a smart TV or android box as I only have Optus mobile data (Optus unmetered streaming) anyway.
