New Mobile Less than $500

My iPhone 5 finally broken. Due to tight financial situation now, am planning to get a cheaper mobile. The apps that I used the most are watsapp and Facebook msg. Any recommendation?

Am eyeing on Nokia 7plus currently but open to suggestion.

Thank you

The Nokia 7 Plus is great at affordable price, there's also the Moto G7 Plus you might want to look into.

However, the best deals going around seem to be:
    - LG V30 for $400
    - Xiaomi Mi 9t for $450
    - Redmi PocoPhone F1 for $350
    - Huawei P30 Lite for $380
    - Huawei P20 Pro for $500
    - Samsung S9 for $550
    - Samsung A70 for $520
    - Samsung A50 for $400
    - Samsung A30 for $300

..but you gotta be quick and thrifty to snag the deals (also check Facebook Marketplace/gumtree/eBay)

    • Do you have a link for the poco? I would like to buy one.

Also the nokia 8.1 is in the price range. I picked one up recently for $430.

The $350 Pocophone was like last week, but you still have these ones:
        GearBest
        eBay PASTA15

…like I said, you usually have to be quick with the deals.

Thanks, might get the Redmi K20 Pro. Looks like a beast.

          • @frondono: Keep in mind that the Redmi k20 pro has no band 28 and only has widevine L3 certification, so Netflix and YouTube are stuck at 480p.

I've got the Xiaomi Mi 9T, it may not have a Snapdragon 855 but it's plenty fast, doesn't get hot when gaming, has decent battery life and supports band 28 and widevine L1.

            • @DangerNoodle: How much did you pay for your Xiaomi Mi 9T?

              • +1

@[Deactivated]: I paid a little under $600 for the 128gb. Catch current has the 128gb for under $520 here . The 64gb model is cheaper but very limiting unless you bought the 32gb+64gb usb-c flash drives for $10 from msy a while back.

                • @DangerNoodle: Cheers! :) Trying to decide between this or the oneplus 6t for a second phone.

                  • @[Deactivated]: You can get the Mi 9T Pro nowadays for around the price I payed for my Mi 9T, so depends on how much you want to spend. One of my main reasons for buying this phone was that I didn't have to deal with a notch or camera obstructing the screen. I don't take selfies so it's nice to have more screen.

iPhone SE. It's still very fast (big big jump from iphone 5), will fit your old cases, will feel like the same familiar style, is an iPhone so you still have imessage, icloud etc. It also hasn't held value well, so 16GB and 32GB are dirt cheap on ebay and gumtree, as well as 2nd hand "refurbs" available online as well.

Don't be afraid to buy used, and if you want a second opinion on a listing post it here or message me and I can give you a second opinion.

  • Saw an ad on a Perth TV channel about "Australia's cheapest phone" - mintt.co

  • Motorola G7. I just upgraded from an original Nokia 6. The Nokia was absolute turd and would not charge properly.

    I paid $285 from TGG.

The Moto is a marked improvement.

    • Hello, my partners father needs a new phone and I was looking at the g7. How did you get it at that price?

      Thank you :)

      • TGG were doing 10% off that day, store wide. That got it down to $314ish. Then the sales rep offered to do it for a flat $300. I just asked what he could do with the price and his opener was $300, I was happy with that.

I then bought a gift card via Suncorp at 5% off for $300 which cost $285.

If you have a tight financial situation, do you need to spend $500 on a mobile? Can get Nokia 6+ for under $200

Just letting you know that if you moving from iOS to Android means you will lose your whatsapp data.

  • The iPhone 6s is decent at ~$415 after the PASTA15 eBay plus discount if you want to stay with apple - Link

It will get the next iOS13 update so software support is at least until 2021. And maybe even after as apple just recently released updates to devices as old as iPhone 4 & 5.

    • Not an iphone fan myself but got a 6s for my son recently and it performs very well. Picked up for a little over $400 in a Telstra deal a while back.
