Video Exposes Indian Family Who Stole Items from a Bali Hotel

OzBargaining taken to…. extremes?

In the tourists bags were found:

  • a hair dryer,
  • soap dispenser,
  • mirror,
  • jars,
  • towels,
  • toiletries*,
  • coat hangers.

I'll 'fess up, I'll take toiletries if I like the ones in a particular hotel. But uh… not so much the other stuff.

I've heard (but never personally tested) that some hotels don't mind and actually (secretly) like you taking their towels as they're branded and it's a form of marketing (Hilton from memory was one).

Is it okay to take some stuff? Where's the line? And what do people here usually/sometimes take from hotel rooms?

  • When i first stayed in a hotel, Taking the little shampoo and bar of soap was a great idea.

These days i spend around 50 nights a year in hotels and the thought wouldn't even cross my mind

  • I had a feeling, the thing could be staged ? Look at how popular these people are now.

Most hotels i have stayed at have a price list of item if they are stolen or go missing - eg Mug = $10
Despite this you shouldnt take more than toiletries or a towel if you are desperate.

  • only news on news.com

  • Not entertaining enough. Post again next time when this happened on a plane.

  • I take the showercap but the rest just winds up being clutter. I consume the entire herbal tea collection while there though.

  • Parents ran a country VIC bed and breakfast and one sprang to mind. Not only did they stay 1-2 nights and take every single item of toiletry (eg: like 5 rolls of TP) they then proceeded to find the maintenance cupboard and empty all the boxes of stock for other guests. Worst part was when confronted they defended it as their right, they’d paid for it etc. No guilt whatsoever.

    • proceeded to find the maintenance cupboard and empty all the boxes of stock for other guests.

Omg, people were just joking about that above but someone actually did this?! That's some… chutzpah.

  • you can take stuff that are one use items that are complimentary, but i will sometimes leave a log cabin behind as a sign of not being happy with things.

i like how they begged for forgiveness.. sorry you stole items.

Sorry I must have missed the part where their race was relevant enough to the story to warrant mentioning it in the title?

    • It's just as relevant as the fact it was a family, age, sex, etc. Otherwise the title would be "Group of individuals take several items of value from place of accommodation and was discovered."

      • But in the title?

        • Why's age and gender relevant enough to be in the title?

  • I usually leave everything so as not to look like a chav but I have to admit one place I stayed at left their housekeeping storage room open so I grabbed a fair handful of toiletries and tea/coffee/sugar etc.

    Edit: wasn't taitems

  • I shamelessly take the laundry bag for my shoes which are generally dirty after a trail run and I don't have time to clean them thoroughly while am staying esp while work travel. Lol

  • Yes, free as they usually supply everyday - tissue box, shampoo and soap, tea and coffee satchel, pen and note pad, shower cap, hotel slippers, magazines, newspaper, maps.

No, not free to consume or take with - mini bar, towel, remote, blanket, pillow, tv , hair dryer, bedsheet, lamp, mirror, paintings, cutleries, hotel book, telephone, safe, hangers.
