Is there something close to this jacket in Uniqlo? I don't like branding in my clothes. Or has anyone tried removing the front logo? Long shot q. Thanks!

Use a texta to colour it out

    • +1

Cut the tags and wear it inside out?

    • +1

The branding is very minimal. No one will notice it unless they're right next to you.

The uniqlo ones look very thin in comparison.

    • +2

the branding on Halo is stitching, mercury and uber light is printing, one of the reason i choose mercury. the branding is very light print

Pin your name tag to the front of it

I would recommend getting this over the hooded one. From personal experience, the none hooded version is more versatile as it is much easier to layer. You can avoid the dual hood situation.

Wear a hooded waterproof layer over this when it rains. Down loses its warmth when is wet. Wear a hoodie under it if you just want to keep your head warm when it's not raining. Hoodie hoods are more comfortable anyway.

  • Finally got one ! Thanks op.

  • plenty of excellent options in the clearance items for those wanting to offset/reduce the shipping cost. personally a 25L drybag for free ($10 - replaces the postage cost) was pretty hard to pass up for doing some washing in whilst travelling.

A couple of other colours available in the clearance section too - https://www.macpac.com.au/clearance/mens/macpac-halo-down-ja…

  • No Cashback available?

    Thanks OP.

Don't pay $10 for shipping. Grab one of these cheapo $2 clearance items like https://www.macpac.com.au/clearance/mens/xtm-hot-hands/11759… to tip this over the $100 free shipping mark. edit: or one of the torches donkcat mentioned above.

  • Torn between the Mercury and the Primaloft ETA…any insight? Would the Primaloft be worth the extra $30?

    • Down loft warmer compare to Primaloft for same weight. But Primaloft water resistant

      • Cheers. I wound up going for Primaloft (I decided I would just exchange if it sucks). But I think I will stick with it because I'm up in Central Queensland, doesn't get too cold. Plus I like the water resistance.

Women's halo jackets seem to be the same cut as men's but shorter sleeves. Ended up swapping with the gf as she is taller and I was sick of baggie sleeves…

  • Last time I bought what looked to be navy blue on the website arrived more of a bright blue. Did anyone have similar experience? I still use it as I couldn't bother with return but would have preferred navy (if it actually comes in navy)

  • Bought the hooded one. Have Kathmandu one thats getting a bit olddddd.

  • Do they get any cheaper at the end of winter or is $99 the best deal we'll get?

    • Check post history. This is the lowest they'll ever come down too.

  • +1

    Is it made in China?

    • +1

      Just checked mine, yes

  • I just paid $140 3 weeks ago :-(

    Very good value for $99.

  • -1

I'm not sure why there's always so many upvotes for this jacket, it's been selling the same price for a long time, and you can even get it in your local DFO for $99, its even cheaper if you travel to NZ and they are selling NZD $99

    • +1

But not cheaper if you aren't going to NZ…or if there is no DFO anywhere near where you live.

  • Great price. Bought one in 'Black Iris' as it looks great in that photo.
Contemplated for ages between the non-hooded vs hooded - but at the end of the day, $30 extra for a hood.. I'll settle for a beanie lol.

MacPac's return policy is also very good. One of the rare times I'll choose to buy via CC and not PayPal due to the ability to return/exchange in-store hassle free.

    Thanks for the post OP.

I think my first post in this forum :)

Got the hooded one from the retail store in Melbourne CBD for $129.

Just a size tip for online buyers (Male):
I’m a male with 1.80m height. Generally all my jackets, raincoats are L or XL sized.
When I tried the L in store, seen that the arms are longer than my size and the chest part looks so much puffy.
Then tried the M and it was a perfect fit for me.

I know everyone has a different build. So, this was my experience.
    Thanks

      You're welcome

  • How do these compare in warmth to the Uniqlo down jackets? There doesn't seem to be any information on the loft rating of the Uniqlo jackets so it's hard to compare

  • Brilliant, been waiting for a few weeks for a sale on down jackets. Lowest price they go for these ones :) Plenty of stock today at Chadstone.

  • How are these jackets compared to Kathmandu jackets and North Face jackets?

  • Buyed in-store today :)
    Nice jacket.

It is now free shipping online even the $99 one :)

Went in store to try. I am female but preferred the boxy fit of the men’s - only downside was that XS was still too spacey and the sleeves were way too long. If it had an XXS you bet I’d buy that.

For women’s, I went my usual size - 8, found size 6 a bit too tight at the waist and can’t wear layers underneath. Though wasn’t a fan of how it flares in slightly at the hips.

Ended up getting a kids astro v4 for $72 in size 12 which had a boxy fit and still quite long but shorter sleeves. Also the jacket folds into itself without the bag so that’s cool.

  • The one I bought today is very wrinkled unlike the one I tried in-store (I think it's because it comes stuffed it into the sack it comes with). Are they always like this when just bought? And can I get rid of them? If not I'm gonna have to return it.

it comes good after a few days

    • That is the cheap, shitty material they use. Ugly as hell and the reason why I couldn’t make the purchase. Cheap and cheerful materials used.

      • Yeah I went to check these out last night after reading all the positive comments. Wasn’t impressed to be honest.

    • Unpack it and wait a few days. Mine was like that and I dont have any creases in it now.

  • would love to get this in kids size, just checked they don't have the equivalent for kids. I normally wear XS for down jackets (i'm skinny) but seeing that their sizes are at least a size up, their XS is probably an S or M which is too large. I wish they'd make XXS size in the future.

  • How does it compare to Outrack?

  • I went to Macpac a couple of months ago to try this Halo and a few others on. The quality looked cheap, they tend to have an ugly scrunched up look. Really ugly wrinkles rather than the lofted smooth look. I didn’t like them even at discounted prices and I decided to wait until I find one that looks smart enough to wear to the city (Syd) for work.
In saying that, some of the more expensive Macpac down jackets used much better quality materials ..

    • +1

The wrinkles are caused by being packed up. They disappear when you store it on a coat hanger for a day or two.

I've had mine for a year and it had been great. Still has smooth look to it.

It has lasted in all sorts of conditions.

  • Is it okay to spray a bit of waterproofing on these? Like scotchguard.

  • I bought this last year at the same price - can highly recommend. It's warm as (profanity), comfortable, light, packs down to nothing.

They're quite large so purchase a size down.
I'm 6ft 85kg and usually wear a Large but got Medium for this jacket.

Only regret is I wish I got the hooded version, purely because I like hoods.

    Great jacket.

  • Ordered Yesterday 2 pm, Delivered today Melbourne 10.30 am , Amazing Service

  • Are there no macpac coupon codes?

  • Bought a black one yesterday. Had originally thought the blue one was for me, but in store it looked a lot lighter than on the website.

Unsure if I'll keep it though, was looking for something to wear to and from work and it's bulkier than a true urban one.

Or maybe, as others have commented here, I should have gone for a smaller size.

    • I bought true to my size as well and feels okay but a size smaller was a nice fit.

I just thought just to keep my size just to layer up.

  • When they say order a size smaller, order a size smaller. I'm swimming in my Large.

    • Should’ve ordered a smaller size

  • What's the best way to un-crease these jackets because of how they've been tucked away in that little travel bag? Crease galore..
With that said, I bought my usual size and it still is a bit roomy, it definitely runs larger than usual - the Black Iris is also a slightly brighter blue than it appears in the pictures, not to dismiss it - still a great hue!

  • Got my jacket today, just in time for the cold windy weather in Sydney this weekend. Just wanted to thank you dealbot for posting this. I love my Macpac! So light, so warm, fits really well. Plus the sleeves are nice and long compared to my Uniqlo down jacket. Wore it today and noticed the creases are already smoothing out. I'd say after a few more uses it won't look creased anymore. Tempted to buy more now…

  • Thanks, just bought two and am getting a third (my store didn't have the size) sent across from another store - one for everyone in the family. They're nice and warm, not waterproof though like others have already mentioned.

  • I got mine today too. I'm 172cm slim to athletic build at 80kg (got a gut) and I usually wear an M for most brands but I ordered a small and it fits good. Around the shoulders and chest. The arms are a tad long but not worth really complaining about.

  • Got one last week, Like others have said, very creased and not sure they'll come out as still creased now.

Definitely a different factory to my first one, which is a far nicer nylon that is both thicker and didn't crease at all in 3 years. The new one is also shinier. I certainly wouldn't value this new one at $280, even at $100 its marginal valie.

Oh, I just checked sho owns Macpac, Super retail group bought them last year - that explains a lot.

  • I bought one of these last year at this price. It's definitely warm, but I look like a molting duck - the feathers fall out from day 1 and just keep going. Even at $100 i'm not racing to buy another one.

  • I bought one on the weekend and love it so thought I'd get one for my daughter as well, but sadly today they're back at full price.

    • Don’t worry. They’ll be on sale again soon

  • Ordered on the 8th and still not received let alone dispatched..

    • Have you contacted macpac?

      • Yeah have sent an email am still waiting to hear back!

  • missed it

  • some more MacPac Halo deal please, dealbot?
