Any runners here who upgraded from the Forerunner 235 (or similar) to the fenix 5 and found it has made a noticeable difference in any aspect?

Depends on which Fenix. This one is a BIG unit and I think the size/weight would be the first thing someone stepping up from a 235 would notice. I took advantage of the Fenix 5 Plus sale a few weeks ago with the smaller 42 mm unit and passed my 47 mm to my wife and the smaller unit is literally half the weight. It does come at the cost of battery life though.

That aside, if you have Spotify Premium then being able to download playlist and play them directly from the watch is a nice feature, Garmin Pay is really handy if you're heading out and don't want to take your wallet, and you have the mapping option, which will come in handy once I head back on to the trails.

Thanks! I think bar one thing from what you listed, they all sound like nice-to-haves (that I'd make use of), but the one thing thing that would get me to eventually drop the $ on this is the mapping option, as the couple times I've taken my Forerunner 235 onto trails, I find myself frequently pulling out my phone to find that I've taken a wrong turn some several hundred metres back.

Good point re: weight - looks like it's 42g for the FR235, and 86g for the F5+ :O

I think you'd be hard pressed to notice the difference - 40 grams isn't much.

@The Vat: It's not much, but it's all relative. I'm sure you would notice that it's literally twice as heavy.

I bought this watch earlier this morning. I think it's the cheapest price for this exact model. Don't forget to get your GST if you are planing to go abroad. The price after GST refund will become AUD 590. Cheers, thanks OP

I just bought this over the weekend after losing my Fenix 3. I'd been waiting for the right moment to buy an upgrade. What an awesome price for a great watch and a huge improvement from my Fenix 3! Thanks for the heads up OP!
