You should mention its $18 per month over 36 months so total cost is ~$660.

Of course you can cancel and pay just the $120 device repayment but then you might as well have just gone prepaid.

The real deal here is $15 per month for 5gb full speed and unlimited 1.5mpbs shaped data with no contract. Left the device out of it

yeh just use any android phone to tether or a cheapo 4g wifi hotspot from coles like $29 bux.

    • Can anyone share the experience on this plan? $15 for unlimited data seems a deal to me, can put the sim into a modem. My usage is only web, youtube, not heavy like watching Netflix.

Edit: read other comments, it sound this would fit my needs.

  • Was it really necessary to cut n paste the entire webpage?

    • sorry ….

5gb? You'll churn through that in a day, if not less. And 1.5mbps after that is too slow to do much of anything. Is anyone actually interested in this?

    • +5

Some people don't need a lot of bandwidth.

I watched Netflix on optus free streaming (1.5Mbps) for 18 months and was fine. Didn't have any buffering issues and I am talking about optus here.

The newer optus plans have taken the Netflix/spotify/google music free streaming off so this is next best thing.

I think the drawcard here is that the new "shaped" speed of 1.5Mbps is actually enough for some things (think a single phone, watching netflix or iview or youtube, or just facebook etc).

$15 is a bargain if you need reliable unlimited slow internet, and for a few people this may be a step up from what they currently have.

  • can 1.5mbps stream Netflix on a 65 inch tv?? lol =/ my new giant tv and lack of wifi is not working out well for me

      u can do 480p at 1.5mbps

      • +1

        …so no, not really.

        • 480p anime on a 65in … doable?

Couldn’t you download from Netflix then watch later?

      • It's doable, but fair warning: the download feature is not actually that great. Downloads will often pause for no reason and not resume, so when you come back after a few hours it hasn't downloaded.

  • Is it a cat4 device?

  • +5

cheapest way is to get it on 24 month contract $5 device + $15 for 5GB per month, total cost is $480.

  • Hmmmm use it for blackvue dash cam?

    • That's my plan just need an awesome deal.

    • Certainly something to think about if you had a permanent internet hotspot in the car. Just not sure about the battery situation.

  • 1.5mbs

    that's 187KB/s MAX :(
might take ages to open a web page with a few pics, or a news article with video clips…

    • +2

      hmm 192KB/s… to be precise

      • TY.
that extra 5KB really makes a world of difference XD

        • back in the old day 300bps modem, you can yall all day lol… especially when someone pick up the phone

          • -3

@dlovep: No, you are obviously too young. I used more old school 56kbps instead.

            • +1

              @sicaboy: I think 300bps is 180 times slower…

I remember the phone couplers that you attach to the rotary phones LOL

            • @sicaboy: k=thousand fyi

I swear I must have the exception or Telstra are just retarded. My phone caps out at 1.6mbs after 60GB and I swear when I'm capped I'm still getting 700KBS-1mg a second on downloads.

      • Your message will make them debug the system

        • They call me Snowden. Edward Snowden

  • Hi just wondering if you could do gaming or watch Netflix with slow unlimited speeds? We don't have NBN in our area and I'm already paying for 200gb.

    • +2

You can easily game or netflix. Not sure about together but like I said this is my personal experience with 1.6mbs cap.

    • +3

Netflix Standard Definition works reasonably well at 1.5Mbps as long as you're doing nothing else….watch the show/film and don't play about on the internet at the same time and you'll be fine and make sure no-one else is using the connection.

It will buffer and become unwatchable if you're trying to watch a film in High Definition or if anyone uses the internet at the same time.

Gaming…the answer is "it depends". NBN latency is much lower so if you're trying to play a real-time game and need to move before someone else does then NBN is better but if you're just playing a few Facebook games then speed isn't that important.
