Outrage kmart plastic bags to go up in price !!!

Oh the audacity to charge me 15 cents for a bag in Kmart yesterday when I went to buy a blender .!!!🙀🙀

Do you need a bag, said the overworked check out girl.

Yes I said , ….then thats 15 cents she said

Omg , stamping my feet, chucking a tantrum, waving my hands around, “ I cant believe this price! I wailed, waving my hands up and down and mimicking my late Polish Grandma 👵🏻…even muttering to myself..This is disgrace in a Polish accent

“The plastic bags are going up to 20 cents said the smiling girl as if I should be grateful I can now purchase it for 15 cents !! Or maybe be buy a whole heap before the price goes up ? 😁

Seriously I think this forum has made me a true cheap charlie as i stood there to buy the blender yesterday I had this hesitation to say NO ! …when the polite young checkout girl asked if i would like to buy a plastic bag to put my blender in

Well…i said ..feigning hesitation…like it was some big business deal…..well ok I said, but only this time !!
Almost like i was doing her a favour , As if she cared lol.
She looked up at me like i was some nutter !🤡Lol

Then i thought …omg get a life…its only 15 cents !!😀😀

Though lately I always either forget or go to a shop without taking a plastic bag leavng me to buy me one or two and now having a whole collection ,oh well they can always be used as bin liners i guess ,although I saw one of my friends cut the plastic bag and is using them as drawer liners ….mmmmm…food for thought …as long as they dont end up in our rivers and waterways…i really hate seeing plastic bags polluting our environment.

You're right OP, we should sign a pact with Woolies, invade and shut down Kmart then divide the store along our sphere of influence.

it's experiences like these that make you remember to bring a bag with you next time you go shopping.

  • Thank you for an entertaining post OP. I smiled few times reading it.

You're outraged about 15c for a plastic bag that you don't really need, but happily bend over for the airtasker?

appropriate reaction considering the context XD

Plastic bags should be banned. Take a backpack. Take a reusable. Carry your item/s in your hands.

  • +1

I agree, plastic bags should be banned.
The worst i saw was hundreds of those awful grey plastic bags floating in a river i visited ,just terrible

Apparently the whole point says the retailers was to minmise their use but all i see is more plastic bags being bought, mostly because some people do their shopping at the spur of the moment …and i think the retailers benefiit from that

    • +2

and i think the retailers benefiit from that

Yup. Why else would they have supported the change so much?

I'm sad to say I did refund a bag once. Handle broke on the way to the car. Walked back in and got my 15c back lol.

You make Scotty proud, he should adopt you and change your name to Scabby.

This was the highest voted at 350+, and they banned him from OzB :(

          • @payton: Scotty adopted him and gave him the keys to the empire… and now Scab's running around as Scotty now?

            • +1

@HighAndDry: given that scotty sinbinned me for 'trolling', i don't think its something Scab would do ;)

You disgrace your username… obvious opportunity to buy for 15c, and then after they go up to 20c, sell back to them at that price, or sell to shoppers at 18c ea!

Good Broden opportunity. Buy an entire car full of bags. Return them all once the price goes up. 25% profit.

I have been getting them for free but if I say, I'll get negs for sure :-)

Why don't you put it in the trolley….

    • +3

      This.

Out of principle at Coles and Woolies I always use a trolley and leave it in the car park. They want to save a few cents on bags, they will have to pay a few dollars in labour to retrieve the trolley.

Just to clarify, I am in NSW, where the removal of bags was not legislated… It would be a different story if it was legislated (I would push the trolley into the lagoon in order for council to pay the retrival)

      • +2

I had a similar trick. I would use their hand baskets for my shop, self checkout and then use it to transport everything to the car without needing a bag. Unfortunately they appear to be cracking down on this practice and have a grumble if I try and take a basket out the door. I wonder why? hmmm.

        • +1

If they grumble, tell them you made me do this.

        • and have a grumble if I try and take a basket out

Seriously? I'd just give them evil-eye and ask "Would you rather I took a trolley?"

        • Lol, I accidentally done this once at Aldi

      • I would push the trolley into the lagoon in order for council to pay the retrival

Eyyyyy! I like the way you think.

        • And then council puts rates up. Great plan.

@ssquid: Shop in a different LGA!

            • @kiitos: Difficult when it covers 10% of the state, nearest outside supermarket is 2 hours away.

              • @ssquid: Ok that makes it hard! I live within shopping distance of 3 councils.

And here i am thinking "audacity" is an audio processing program for windows..

The queens english has some unusual variations.

  • If they were serious about reducing plastic bag waste they would ban them all together.

This is just a revenue boost strategy and nothing more.

  • Imagine the outrage from the animals in the ocean who ingest the plastic which ends up giving them a slow death.

This post is just a good example of how out of touch with reality most people are and how disconnected from nature they have become.

    • +1

how out of touch with reality most people are

well, most people aren't bogan enough to be dumping plastic rubbish over waterways and oceans

      • If you think the plastic ends up in waterways because people dump it there, well that is pretty out of touch with reality.

How does plastic end up in the ocean?
        https://www.wwf.org.uk/updates/how-does-plastic-end-ocean

        • hardliners and ideologs, people who propose lets 100% ban plastic bags, ban meats, ban XYZ are out of touch with the realities of everyday life - hence their motions don't get very far.

When rubbish is being transported to landfill, plastic is often blown away because it’s so lightweight.

How is this the fault/issue for the average citizen? Should lobby the waste management company.

.2. Littering. Litter dropped on the street doesn’t stay there. 3. Products that go down the drain. Many of the products we use daily are flushed down toilets, including wet wipes, cotton buds and sanitary products

I trust most of my fellow Aussies have the brains not to litter or flush things that shouldn't be flushed.

    • I get outraged when I see plastic bags stuck in trees. On a windy day they don’t half make a noise as well.

Like yesterday at BigW I just take any trolley staff are using to restock .

The young kid wasn’t impressed but I’m doing it either for : a) environment

    B) convenience

    C) all above

    C not my answer.

    ; )

  • Hhahaha. Defs cool story!

But honestly what do we expect. 5c bags today 50c+ bags one day.

Same as straws and anything plastic. No problem - just pay extra!

  • When all is said and done the retailers should be selling (or giving away) those biodegradable bags. Even Bangladesh is looking at producing bio bags made from jute:
