Samsung Galaxy A30 (Telstra Prepaid) Black Phone $299 Delivered @ Australia Post

110

This is a black Samsung Galaxy A30 (Telstra Prepaid) phone $299 with free pickup in-store or free delivery from Australia Post.

Not the cheapest A30 but there is no stock at the Telstra store, so I thought I'd post it (and it's cheaper than from Telstra anyway).

It also looks like you could save another $10 or so, off the $299 price, using cashback.

Plus, it's Australian stock from a brick and mortar store.

May suit someone already on Telstra prepaid.

Ps. Unlocking the phone from Telstra costs $80 within 6 months of purchase (or first recharge), and $25 after 6 months.

  • Will it work with Aldi Mobile sim card?

Officeworks shouldn't match since this is locked and their stock is unlocked.

    • They probably will not match if it's locked to Telstra.

I found a Samsung A30 but for Optus prepaid, not Telstra, at Target (now expired) https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/472595

It was just $265 ($255 with the code) I don't think they matched that deal either, but I'm not sure, I just assumed that they wouldn't because of the price difference.

  • The performance is sorry for this price

yes i got this phone call connection takes 3 or 4 seconds sometimes, the camera takes great shots but again a delay displaying the picture with slow button response in general,
Biometrics are sometimes very slow when unlocking the phone, but work instantly within software such as bank apps,
it seems to be a software issue maybe the phone is being software throttled everything else including games and satnav work perfectly,

the 6.2 or 6.4 screen is the same one they use in the flagship devices and looks fantastic, no other phone offers such a high quality oled screen at this pricepoint, the screen is so good one forgets about the other gripes,, satnav and work apps are crystal clear while playing videos is sublime, sound is average at highest setting

if like me you need reading glasses and dont care about a super snappy response, you watch a lot of video and pictures you stream and read lots of txts i can utterly recommend this phone at this price its so easy on the eyes

I have it myself, and like it so much I want to get one or two for my parents when it's on sale (but my mum wants a dual SIM so it's going to have to be an import).

Picture is truly fantastic, and the phone screen mirroring to my Samsung is awesome (my TV becomes a display for my phone in those cases).

It is very clear that they were both designed by Samsung to work together with minimum fuss, which is very difficult to achieve with two different manufacturers.

And because it's full HD the TV doesn't have to interpolate the image from my phone or anything like that, which would introduce distortion.

Having said that the main problem I have performance wise, is switching tabs in Google Chrome (but I have literally 500-1,000 tabs open, which it has to load, and because of that I wouldn't be surprised if it was lack of RAM instead of a slow processor).

But one of the first things I did I unlocked the processor cores, which are locked by default to something like 75% of maximum processor speed (probably to save th er battery), further in other settings tje phone will throttle the processor cores to as little as 25% depending on which power/battery saving setting it's on (by default it slows the phone unnecessarily and quite significantly, even though it has a 4,000 mAH battery).

In fact, my biggest gripe by far is how quickly the battery drains, but I have installed so much stuff I totally filled storage space and have to uninstall apps quite often just so the phone can run updates.

So, the huge bright screen with full HD definition has to be a big drain on the batterry, along with all tthe unnecessary apps I have running in the background.

It doesn't feel like it drains faster than my previous phone, but it feels like it drains the battery almost as fast as my other phone which only had a 2,400 mAH battery (but it also only had a 4.5 inch screen).

None of that really bothers me though, because the fast charger works so well, that I can top it off to full in half an hour or so.

If I need say 2-3 hours of phone use and my battery is low, 10-15 minutes on the charger fills it up half way.

Of course I never charge the phone fromm 0% so it starts off with a quarter to a half full battery, but it feels to me that all it takes is to plug it into a charger while I brush my teeth, shave, grab my wallet and keys, and I'm good to go for the rest of the day, with the battery full or almost full.

Apparently the recent update does all this according to Whirlpool. Reduces the throttle.

        • Oh that's great news!

I'll have to check which version is running on my mum's phone, and make sure she has that update.

Btw. I only just bought her the phone today (3 hours ago lol) and it's still transferring everything from her older Samsung phone (I like mine enough to buy another one for her as well, especially for the large screen, since she spends many hours on her Samsung J2 Pro every day).

Interestingly, I did not order it from Australia Post online, because (trying to save delivery time) I rang them to find out if they had any in instock that I could buy today, and the operator at the central Australia Post phone centre was able to tell me which Australia Post stores had them in stock (turns out there was one or two in stock at four out of five Australia Post shops within 15-20 minutes drive from my place).

So, that is another way these can be bought from Australia Post.

But, the Australia Post website where I initially saw the phone on sale, didn't mention that these phones were also being sold in-store at the same price.

Ps. I went to edit the deal title, to add that these phones can also be bought in store, and I noticed that I have included that information in my original post (but not in the title, but in the description below it).

Which makes me wonder if I'm loosing my mind or my memory, because I wouldn't have added this fact without confirming it first, how I forgot about it is beyond me.

          • @BooYa:

operator at the central Australia Post phone centre was able to tell me which Australia Post stores had them in stock

Thanks for the tip. Didn't think they'd be able to do that. Might call and see if one local has stock. Looking for one for a family member.

            • @Typical16-bitEnjoyer: Glad I could help.

I would suggest one other tip that may help - offer to give the operator the SKU number, instead of the phone's name and model, ec.

It not only makes the job easier, but also ensures that the operator was actually searching for the right item, instead of something that sounds like it over the phone.

Eg. they may search for Samsung Galaxy 830, instead of A30, if they're not familiar with mobiles. In which case you'd be told that they had none in stock (not surprisingly, since such a model doesn't exist AFAIK).

Just make sure to confirm that after they enter the SKU number in the search, that it's showing the same phone as the one you want, so you can avoid any misunderstandings.

Final note - their system doesn't tell them what colour the phone is!

Luckily, this model has only two colours - a black one and a white one - so you have a 50/50 chance to get the right colour in the first store you visit.

I assume that they would mostly stock the black ones (but it's mostly based on a gut feeling, more than anything else, so I could be completely wrong about that).

I was lucky to get a black one that I wanted, which was in the first store we went to) because it was the closest one (only 5 minutes away by car).

But even if it was the white model, I wouldn't mind so much since it was a present, and my mum would probably prefer the white one anyway.

              Happy shopping.
