Exercise or Diet Regime to Loose Weight after C Sec

Hello

Had 2nd c sec 3 months back. I wanted to know how other folks got back to original weight. The first time I had csec I bounced back to original weight pretty quickly, but this time I am still stuck onto the same weight which I had on the day I got discharged from hospital.

Please share your experience and thoughts on losing weight and any diet I should follow.

Wanting to loose roughly 12 to 14 kgs. I am still breastfeeding and a vegetarian.

Thanks…

Are you seriously suggesting a meal replacement diet for a breastfeeding mother?!

Is the OP seriously asking an anonymous internet forum with a focus on saving money for health advice?

@starofdavid is a "former weight loss consultant" (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/475964). I know a former weight loss consultant who was a flight attendant before that and is now a prison officer. So I'd be looking carefully into any advice from someone with that job title.

OP: go and see a doctor.

  • Technically, losing weight is as simple as reducing the number of calories/kilojoules that you consume, or increasing the amount that you burn by exercise or work. If only life was so simple, though.

Do not do any 'shake' diets while breastfeeding…eat lots of healthy vegies and proteins…
I know it is hard to find time to exercise but try to go for a long walk each day…give it time x

    • Thanks for the kind words

  • The first step is to get an app for tracking your daily food intake. I used one called LifeSum. Another option is one called My Fitness Pal.

You will then know how many calories/kilojoules you're eating, and which foods you could reduce or stop to have the maximum impact on your daily intake.

For example, things like chips or desserts or sugary soft drinks have a lot of calories, but aren't very filling, and the sugar highs & lows sometimes make some people hungrier & wanting to eat more. If you're eating these types of foods, then you could try replacing them with healthier & more filling options like fruits or salads.

    • Will do so

  • How old are you? Get hormones checked as you are fighting a losing battle if they are out of whack.

    If all ok.

Calories in v calories out. It's pretty simple if everything else is working as normal.

It's mostly about diet. Consider a water fast for a few days (as long as you can hang in there, I managed to do 3 days), followed by a 16/8 intermittent fasting arrangement (i.e. don't eat for the 16 hour window and eat sensibly during the 8 hour window) for a couple of weeks and consider going full vegan, or at least get rid of the dairy. You don't need it. I lost 10 kg in 4 weeks doing the above, have kept it off and feel great.

Add in some daily walking to the above and you'll be sweet. :) Good luck!

Fasting while breastfeeding sounds like very bad advice

Don't use crash or fad diets, where you lose weight quickly, either during pregnancy or breastfeeding. These diets don't have a good balance of important nutrients needed for both you and your baby.

It is best to lose the extra weight gradually, using healthy eating principles and adding in some extra exercise. A loss of up to about half a kilo per week is safe for breastfeeding mothers. If you feel that you need to lose a lot of weight and more quickly, consult your medical adviser or a dietitian for advice on a balanced weight-reducing diet.

Some hints if you are trying to lose weight:

    • Avoid shopping when you are hungry. Write a shopping list and stick to it. Don't be tempted to buy high-fat or high-sugar snack foods or processed foods.

    • Use smaller plates for your meals.

    • Eat slowly. Don't put more food on your fork until you've eaten the last mouthful. This gives you time to feel full.

    • Don't eat on the run - sit down at the table and relax.

    • Choose snacks of wholegrain products, vegetables and fruits.

    • Cut down on fat (and kilojoule) intake by choosing low-fat or fat-free dairy products and using only a small amount of oil during cooking.

    • Choose foods that contain little or no added sugar. Note that foods labelled 'low-fat' are often very high in sugar. Foods with added fruit or fruit juice concentrate, but labelled 'no added sugar', can be just as high in kilojoules as some others with added sugar. Check labels for energy (kJ) content.

    • Increase the amount of exercise you do. Take the baby out for walks. Not only will you burn more calories but it will also be good for your mental health.

If you've been vegetarian for a while, get your B12 levels checked. You might need some supplement.

But above all, be kind to yourself. A c-section is a major surgery and you've had 2! Give your body time to heal.

Edit: Forgot to add that breastfeeding is thirsty work ( no pun intended!). So make sure you drink plenty of water as it very easy to mistake thirst for hunger.

    • Thank you for your kind words

I am still breastfeeding and a vegetarian.

You should talk to registered dietitian. Your dietary requirements while breastfeeding is quite different from other people. Following some weird advice from the internet could risk your health and the baby's.

So many ozb medical advices, how come no one mention about go see a GP and get referral to see a dietitian?

    • I think someone did

      • Lol yep , I was searching for GP, someone did said Doctor 😀

        • Will do that as well…

  • You just have a c-sectikn so please be easy on yourself. I know as a woman you feel the need to go back in shape nd everything. But that weight you got was after you grow a baby in your womb. And if there s one thing i know is as long as you have a healthy diet and lifestyle ( i mean not spending all day on the couch watching tv), you will loose your baby weight. It may take a bit of time but with the help of your gp you will reach your goal.Congrats on your baby !

    • Thanks for the wishes

  • Being a healthy mum comes first. Losing some weight while managing 2 little kids (assuming) isn’t easy.

Try and get some more exercise eg walking the kids to the owrknetc instead of driving. Keep up a healthy diet and be patient. Getting frustrated you aren’t dropping kg fast isn’t going to be healthy for the family.

Both. And stop hating animals so much that you don't even deem them worthy of consuming, unlike the plants you constantly slaughter and dismember.

    • No one cares about plants.

They've cut through some big muscles there. I'd be talking to my doctor before anyone else. You don't want to do permanent damage

  • if you're breastfeeding, its more important to remain well fed than anything. As little SUGAR and simple carbs as possible is as universal rule for keeping off excess weight. lots of healthy fats and proteins will keep you full, healthy and usually at a healthier weight.

Don't worry about exercise much until youre feeling 100% post surgery and sleepless nights etc. exercise builds muscle, effectively but doesn't shed weight very well. Things like burpees, squats, planks etc are the least damaging and most effective in building up core strength.

Also dont forget that you're dealing with hormones and metabolic craziness that is out of your control. VERY often second baby is much harder to bounce back from.
