Free silk ties and cufflinks with purchase of 2 or more dress shirts.

Hello fellow Ozbargainers!

Modern Tailor is an online company that makes made-to-measure dress shirts and suits. I've had multiple shirts made by this company over the last several months, and have been very pleased with the results. I'd highly recommend that you give them the measurements of a well-fitting shirt and not your body measurements, especially if you prefer a slimmer fit - in my experience they manage to replicate a shirt's measurements very precisely. Their prices are a LOT less expensive than having a shirt custom made locally. Delivery times are also really very good - in my experience less than 2 weeks to Brisbane.

They are currently running a promotion whereby if you purchase:

2 shirts - 1 free silk tie
4 shirts - 1 free silk tie and 1 pair of cufflinks
5 shirts - 1 free silk tie and 1 pair of cufflinks and 1 fabric swatch catalogue

They have a huge range of ties (admittedly some of the designs are cringe-worthy, even nauseating, but I've found quite a few that are really nice!) and likewise with the cufflinks.

If you feel like throwing me a bone so that I can afford to feed my disabled puppy this week, please visit the site via my referral link: http://www.moderntailor.com/?rid=31174

If not, please visit via: http://www.moderntailor.com

I will add that the quality of the "$19.95 trial shirt" fabric is mediocre at best, some would say atrocious, so for a fabric that feels more like a great dress shirt than a tablecloth, look for the fabrics that are $39.95 and up. Unless of course you're looking for a shirt that can double as a tablecloth, in which case $19.95 is a pretty fantastic deal. ;-)

Cheers!

While this site is arguably awesome and cheap, I fail to see how this is a bargain. A free silk tie (worth about, what, $2.00 in China?)does not a bargain make.

"While this site is arguably cheap"…"does not a bargain make".

In my opinion, a company that will allow you to custom design a shirt to your style and measurements and ship it to you in under 2 weeks, for much less than it would cost you to purchase an off-the-rack dress shirt of comparable quality, is a bargain IMO. The free ties and cufflinks are a bonus.

Again, that's my opinion, and since I found this company I have never purchased another dress shirt off-the-rack. But I'll let ozbargainers make up their own minds whether or not they agree with me. :)

Firstly, in my experience they certainly do not deliver in under 2 weeks.

Secondly, this is their normal everyday price, except you get some worthless junk. A bargain, as I understand it in the context of this site, is most often (if not exclusively?) measured against RRP.

Awesome site, great idea and people should buy shirts from therein preference to OTR crap. However, this deal that you are publishing (as opposed to the underlying online tailor product) does not qualify as a bargain for mine.

Wait… so you're saying that this company and its prices are great, and that people should purchase this product, but that I shouldn't have posted it for people to find out about the product…

Custom made products don't have Recommended Retail Prices.

And cufflinks and ties are worthless junk? I'm beginning to suspect that you're trolling, sir. If this doesn't qualify as a bargain for you, I'm sorry to have wasted your time, but I'm sure that one or two people won't see this as worthless junk.

        • As much as I like Modern Tailor and their prices, this 'deal' has pretty much been around since the dawn of time and it isn't anything special. The seasonal fabric specials deserve more attention than this - or even just their weekly specials.

I am going to infer that this post is more of a thinly disguised attempt at fishing for referral clicks for store credits than anything else. If I remember right you get $20 credit for every referred customer.

wisc: the thing is that this 'deal' is a permanent thing for this site - so it's not a special.

Anyway, just think DealExtreme as Modern Tailor is the DX of shirts and suits. We don't make DX posts for their low low everyday price, so why post this site?

yeah but has it been posted here before?

  • not bad 20 bux a shirt…now if only i knew my measurements.

    • They have instructions on the site for measuring a well-fitting shirt that you already own. It takes about 5 minutes with a tape measure. ;-)

I do warn you that the quality of the $19.95 shirt fabric is as atrocious as one would expect from a shirt made by a tailor to custom measurements and style preferences for $19.95. Spend $20 more and get a choice of a far greater range of fabrics than the two options you are given for $19.95, and the shirt you will receive should be something you can actually wear out of the house without a bag over your head. The "trial shirt" is a complete waste of money IMO.

Bought Van Heusen 'Eurofit' cotton business shirts at Myer on the weekend for $28 each.
    Now that's a bargain!

They also had Jeff Banks for around $35

    • Off-the-rack shirts are fantastic for people who have standard measurements!

      • that'd be I

        • Or so you think you do. :P

  • Check this out. "FREE" cloth samples, plus FREE measuring tape and 3 x $10 vouchers! Wow!!

    http://www.moderntailor.com/common/swatch.jsp

Also clearly advertised as FREE in the banners. But wait… why does it want to charge me $25 for this FREE swatch sample pack? Hm…

This kind of dodgy bullsh*** guarantees I won't ever be buying from them and I would be seriously skeptical of any "deal" offered by them.

    • That "deal" pissed me off too, but I've pretty much come to expect some misleading advertising from companies these days. sigh

      • That's one good reason why sites like this exist. To punish misleading advertising. Just ask the jerky companies ;)

    • I can't comment on the ties but the cufflinks (USD $29.95) are the same ones you can get from places like DealExtreme for $3-5 delivered.
Given there's no actual "bargain" here, just usual prices, having to buy 4 shirts to get a generic set of Chimei cufflinks is a pretty raw deal.

      • +2

Ummm, but instead of paying $3-5 for them, they're free? :P

Some people on Ozbargain seem to be willing to give away their entire medical history and first-born child just to get a free 30mL shampoo sample, so I figured that some people might appreciate free cufflinks (even if, as you say, they're only worth $3-5) and ties with a product that is already far less expensive than other comparable alternatives.

Anyway, shrugs suit yourselves. Pun intended.

    is postage free?

This is just advertising, not a bargain at all.

All the nice looking shirts on the site's homepage are ~$150US+.

    • There are no shirts featured on the homepage, so I have no idea what you're talking about and I suspect you don't either. There is also plenty of 2-ply, high thread count fabrics on that site for much cheaper than local alternatives, and certainly a lot cheaper than $150.
