Low Hurdle Cash Promotions/Bonuses

Hi everyone,

I'm in a spot of bother with my finances with only a few hundred dollars worth of an emergency fund set up.
I'm looking to save a bit more now for Christmas presents a few months down the line.

I got talking to a friend and he suggested that I sign up for Ratesetter to take advantage of the $50 promotion that they are running. It only requires $100 dollars investment for a month to receive their $50 bonus!
I got lucky and the borrower paid the funds back early so I received my money back plus the bonus all under a week.

I did some more googling for simple jobs and I'm in the process of doing the Coinbase promotion that they have.

Are there any low hurdle tasks/referrals/investments that won't lock up my money for too long?
Is there a list somewhere on the internet that lists alot of these promotions?

Thank you!

      • There is literally no downside to borrowing money you don't have to buy/sell stocks that you don't own, just ignore the margin calls.

Look for paid market research or focus groups. I've done a couple, basically getting paid about $100 to talk about groceries or something. Easy money, but you can only do it every 6 months or so.

Perhaps heed the message from the stewards before a plane takes off: put the oxygen mask on yourself first before helping others… Perhaps build up your emergency funds first before thinking of Christmas presents.

Exactly, if the OP is in a financial bind, Why TF would he think about Xmas presents?

I have a friend just like this where money is always tight but Xmas must be enjoyed with hundreds of dollars of presents for each child.

  • I feel like the Ratesetter promotion is like the gateway drug equivalent of loan sharking…

You're really undervaluing the amount of time you're putting into this. If you're in a tough spot with your finances, I'd find something to do. Find things you don't need anymore to sell on eBay, or start flipping stuff on Gumtree, driving Uber or something like that.

  • Xmas presents.
Don't spend the money in the first place, make something.
Biscuits, preserves, jams, pickles, chilli sauce, fudge. Wrap in cellophane with nice ribbon and a hand decorated card on hand made paper (yes, I've done this and people love it). It takes an investment in time but outlay is reasonable.

If you want money, find your nearest scrap metal place, have a chat about what they will buy and start combing the streets.

Sell all your junk on gumtree/ebay.

Hand write some flyers and letterbox the area for light gardening, car washing, errand type jobs.

    Pet sitting or walking.
