Same deal as every other week. The ad is online and the last page of the TV Guide in Today's Herald Sun. Take it into Dans or 1st choice and they'll price match. Melbourne only

I've found that 1st choice have far more stock for these deals, so if you have one around they are worth visiting over Dans (who mysteriously run out of stock at 10.01). Cash only at 1st choice though

Happy drinking

  • Lucky for those who have the day off or who finish early - first choice would have hid all asahi slabs before they opened!

    • Personally I think that would be a silly move by First Choice. In all honesty how often would they be able to sell and entire stock of Asahi in a day. Granted it is ~$15 less then their price but given the amount they would sell in one day, surely it would all work out better for them. No?

      • Exactly. Even if it were $2 above their "cost" price, and they moved 5 or 6 pallets (probably more) then they would still make more than they would on a day where they only sold 2 or 3 cartons.

Dude you dont know what your talking about. i own a bottle shop and it cost $50 from cub and $46 direct from importer, this is wholesale prices. So no way can they make money at $30. All you guys are dreamers, if you think they can make money off $30 import beer.

        • -1

so you saying you dont get a buck profit if you sell imported beer? So you open the shop because your hobby is to store alcohol and clean the box but not for any profit?

          Now thats impressive!

        • +1

That wasn't what he was saying at all…

Don't people remember the big uproar from CUB during the time when they thought the supermarket chains were going to sell Carlton Draught at around $28 a slab or something (right after milk went to $1 a litre)? Even that was selling at a loss, and that's just Carlton Draught, a beer that would be far more inexpensive to buy than an imported beer like Asahi.

As Randy points out, $29.99 would not be anywhere near $2 above their cost price….

        • @randy

          Note how I said "IF"

And plus, they're huge stores. Their cost will be less than your cost, anyday.

        • +1

the bottom line is that they are losing money. therefore they hide the stock.

  • The ad is online

    where ???

    • Click on "Check out this week's press ad!" url. Not easy to spot in the PDF, but it's there, I promise!

      • in the past Dans have not accepted the online voucher, has this changed ???

        • Don't know if Dan's will accept the online voucher.

  • Probably change the description to 'may price match' and of course this offer is only until Getwines direct sell their remaining stock of a few cartons and then are sold out. Expect your local dan murphys or 1st choice to ring getwines direct as they will not want to lose money as Randy has correctly pointed out…

This is a good deal if your local Dans or 1st choice doesnt follow their price match rules and thats about it.

    • Probably change the description to 'may price match'

Dan's will price match if you're within 10km of Richmond, as per their price match conditions…

but i think you need the original coupon from the paper, not an online printout…

      • Yep agree, within 10 kays, GWD must have stock, and yes unlikely without newspaper cutting. That said, some people report here that they get the deal without meeting all or any of the price match policy points…. cant hurt to try your luck ;)

        • +1

I've used the online voucher the last few weeks without any problem, and am about 15km from Richmond. Never had them call the shop either in the 18 months I've been getting these deals

        • @drdoplphin: where from?

        • Dan Murphy's in Oakleigh (might be South Oakleigh, corner of North and Warrigul Rd) and First Choice have both accepted the printed online voucher. Was half questioned at first, but I pointed out it says with voucher, no mention that you need the newspaper ad, and was accepted after then.

Went to Dan's in Prahran - none on shelf, removed perhaps…? But a dozen or so left in the cool room! Score..

    • Sweet im there in 20mins.

      • Bought a few (with help). Prahran only has 4 in the fridge and about 10 on a pallet.

  • argh, why can't this ever be available in Adelaide? :( Asahi is one of my favourite beers…

  • I went to Parkdale Dans at 10:00am and they only had two left on the pallet.
I'm sure they either hide them out the back or deliberately order low stock.
The lady at the counter said they only carry half a crate at a time which is bs.

Happy to score one this time round, last time i made two visits to different stores and lucked out.
    Thanks GWD

    • only carry half a crate at a time which is bs.

sneek into the back, take a pic, and expose them on ACA or TT ???

      • whats so wrong with them only ordering half a pallet at a time. im sure when gwd aren't having thier sales, they wouldn't sell all that much.

        • A friend works in the dock and let me tell you something, GDW are not making a lost at 30 bucks a pop on IMPORTED beers not like others who source the local (so call import) brew stuff which is more expensive. GWD always have stock, yes I've been to their warehouse many times, and as for your comment GWD not having their sales….lol dream on, they're are here to stay and so are the weekly specials.

        • +2

i buy asahi whether its on sale or not from Dans every few weeks and they always have heaps when I go in. I arrived at opening today to only find 2 cases available. The only time that happens is when GWD have their specials. They hide their stock away, I'm sure of it.

  • I HAVE BEEN TO DANS & ARGUED THE POINT THAT THEY SAY THEY WILL MATCH ANY ADVERTISED PRICE…AND GOT MY BEER!

  • DM are the worse when it comes to "sold out" on these deals. I mean seriously, you sold nearly the entire stock of asahi as soon as the doors are opened!!!……yeah right BS!. and I'm referring to the Sth Melbourne joint. PATHETIC!.

  • Why isnt there any deals for Sydney siders :(

  • Tried to get this with a print out at Dan Murphys Camberwell (within 10km) and was flat out refused. The staff member said it should be OK yet he called the manager over who said no.

The web-site voucher says nothing about a newspaper. It says - "MUST PRESENT THIS COUPON".

I am certainly keen to avoid shopping at Dan Murphys for a while after this. Whatever happened to the 'lowest liquor price guarantee'? Is it worth complaining to the ACCC?

    • the herald sun is only $1.20…to save at least $15 is worth it

      • +2

By the time I get the paper, get home, drive to the shop, walk around trying to find the three or so stubbies they have left it is not worth it! This deal used to be great, now all DM and FC are stocking little of the stock that is on special - not worth the hassle or petrol driving around having to argue a point!
Drinking beer is supposed to be down time, why is purchasing it so difficult!

        • +2

Exactly. Can't stand Dan Murphys/Woolworths Ltd after this incident. Way to get a purchaser off side.

        • +2

because dm and fc are BASTARDS!!!

  • +1

I went in to Dan Murphy's Alphington last night at 5pm and they still had their signs up for Asahi, but mysteriously there was no stock on the floor, in the walk-in fridge and only a single six-pack in the main fridges.

DM certainly seems to hide their stock when GWD has a special.
