8bitdo SN30 Pro+ G Classic Edition $68.50 + Delivery @ Core Electronics

170

The new 8BitDo SN30 Pro+ G Classic Edition is now available through Core Electronics.

I am yet to find a reputable Australian retailer that is selling the newly released 8BitDo controller.

Unfortunately Core Electronics only has the controller available in the G classic model.

You can purchase the SN and Black Edition through Amazon US, though the controller ($77.04) + shipping ($11.83) + tax ($8.90 they include the price of shipping when calculating tax) = $97.77 but costs quite a bit more.

Switch youtuber wulff den reckons this thing is as good, if not better, than the switch pro controller.
Personally waiting for the famicom release if they do one.

    • Same here. I'm a bit impatient so I've ordered the famicom buttons to replace these ones

Will it work with the 8bitdo wireless dongle thing that we all bought ages ago from Joybuy?

      • To my knowledge it does.

Edit: their website says the dongle works with all 8BitDo controllers

Mine literally arrived today from these guys (Apparently Fastway delivers on weekends)
Still getting used to it compared to my original 8bitdo SF30 Pro model, the location of the start and select buttons is the biggest change, though it's not that big of a deal really. Much more comfortable overall with the wings.

I hate the button colours also, I heard that you could replace them..?
Haven't been able to find a guide or anything online though, don't want to go pulling this thing apart randomly =(

Is it better than the Switch Pro controllers? Specially the D pad?

      • I've never had an official Nintendo Pro, sorry.

I actually got my original 8bitdo model before my Switch and was using it with the receiver for other platforms like my Snes mini/PC etc.
Technically these things have been the only controller I've owned for my Switch.

I haven't found a guide online either. I've ordered a few buttons from Aliexpress and ebay. I have found a teardown of the SN30 here that's the one with no joy stick. Hopefully it's a similar process, that is, taking the the gameboy buttons out and placing the famicom ones in.

I seems the ones from Aliexpress will be the better one because it has two large prongs on the side as well as a smaller one on an angle, which i assume is to stop the button from wobbling. The ebay buttons only have two prongs meaning they may have more wobble.

I'd be happy to keep you posted. I am planning on writing an iFixit guide. I'll PM you if you're interested!

      • Awesome. Thanks for the store links. Found a few buttons on Ebay also, was thinking of just getting the Aussie seller ones that cost more but won't take 3+ weeks to arrive, but it seems none of them have the third prong. Hmm maybe I will go Ali Express instead.

After a bit of googling and browsing the 8bitdo subreddit I did find something of an Imgur guide that someone has done.

        https://imgur.com/a/9BcGAG4

(Looking at that guide and reading some other testimonials from the subreddit leads me to believe having the third prong buttons isn't entirely essential perhaps)

        • Great find on that teardown! I'm not 100% sure either if the third prong will make any difference, so i just order both variants to see. They're only a few dollars each, so worth a try I guess

          • @BigPeeper: Hey mate did you ever mod yours up?
I got my aliexpress buttons the other week but only found the time to take it apart today. The ones I received only have the 2 prongs but it's honestly fine and not that big a deal. They fit fine, but aren't convex like the official ones sadly.

I actually still had my original non Pro+ 8bitdo SF30 sitting around unused so decided to open that up and use those official convex ones instead, replacing its with the aliexpress buttons.

Absolutely love it now that it's all sexy and proper :P
No idea why 8bitdo doesn't sell the actual colour scheme.

  • I’m yet to buy a Nintendo Pro controller but am interested in these only because people say the d-pad is better. Is the d-pad really that bad on Nintendo’s Pro? And if you have one of these, what do you think the main advantages of these over Nintendo’s Pro are?
    Thanks for any help.

the d-pad is a little bit odd on the Switch Pro controller. It's a bit too positive feeling, too clicky.

perhaps from a technical standpoint it's a better design, but you can't smush into it like a SNES controller or a Gameboy. Feels very different.

The problem with the dpad on the Pro Controller is that on AT LEAST SOME, it can register up/down when you press right/left. This makes playing games like Tetris (unwanted hard drops) or games that require precision dpad use (like twitch platformers) are pretty much unplayable.

Whether this is an issue for you may depend on:
-whether your Pro Controller is a “bad” one or not (we really have no idea how widespread the issue is)
-how you use the dpad (if you tend to lightly press the dpad in a precise manner, it may be less of an issue than if you tend to roll your thumb around the dpad)

I have a Pro Controller, and I love it - I just don’t use it for any game that requires precision dpad usage. Other people may have no issues with the dpad at all - whether that’s because they got a good one, or just because they use the dpad differently to me, then cool. But every Pro Controller I have used has had a similar problem! (Maybe it’s just me…)

Tl;dr - if you buy a Pro Controller, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND buying it from a store with a good returns policy! (So you can keep swapping them until you find a good one, or can refund it if you don’t)

I was concerned when I bought my second hand one off ebay (I got a unwanted super smash bros one that had only been used once supposedly) but I can't fault it. If you can get a barely used second hand one for about ~$50 or lower I'd snap it up.

  • i am curious:
can i map the whole street fighter hadouken into a single button in this controller? (the down forward movement plus button)

how about the whole combo of a tekken character into a single button?

    • The software doesn't allow you do to time delays when setting up a macro. So as long as you don't have to wait x amount of seconds in order for combo to work the software works great. I hope they allow for time delays in a future software update.

  • These must be really good for this price considering the excellent XBox One controller can be often had for the same price.

I can vouch for their build quality. Especially how close the D-pad is to the original NES.

      • I have a couple of the older 8bitdo model SNES controllers and I have to say, the D-Pads are terrible on them (too hard feeling). I'd hope that this controller is way better.

  • I wanted the black version, but I messaged Core & they don't have any plans to get that colour.

Ended up ordering from a place on Aliexpress, cost around $75 shipped.

    • Do you have a link (or search term you used)?

When I did a quick search earlier, I didn’t see the plus model.

      • +1

8BitDo's offical Aliexpress store. You can order all three versions! With free shipping, just might take a month to get here

        • Thanks mate!

(Not sure why it wasn’t coming up in my searches…I tried “8BitDo SN30 Pro plus”, but all the results were for the old SN30!)

    • +3

We sure will be getting the other two variants in, though G-Classic has reliably been the most popular choice over the 8Bitdo years in this region, so we launched with that to avoid out of stock issues with other colours holding up our initial deliveries. Should have the other models listed in 2-3 weeks (as the dust settles around the launch)

      =)

      • Will you have the matching coloured phone mounts? (Although i think only two versions have a matching colour?)

Perhaps you could sell a matching bundle with a small discount? :)
