Windows 10 Keys - Cheap eBay OEM Vs Retail - Should I Sell?

Hi,

I have been selling Windows 10 keys on eBay for a while now.

I import them from overseas and sell them for much cheaper than what you can get them in stores.

They are genuine RETAIL keys that can be added to a Microsoft account. Not MSDN (Developer) or OEM keys. Retail keys can be transferred from one computer to another (or if you reimage). I can also provide DVDs or physical boxed products (these are a hassle to post though).

There are a lot of cheap developer keys being sold on eBay that certainly break Microsoft Terms and Conditions sometimes these are sold as OEM… but that's not usually true…

I'd like to know if the Ozbargain community would be interested in these keys. I know many PC builds are sold without keys or for a significant fee… I can certainly beat the prices these companies are offering.

Would you be interested in these keys? At what price point? What concerns do you have? I am happy to set up an ABN and provide a tax receipt etc… but I want to get a feel for the market before I go to the effort and get your feedback.

I can also source other programs, but it takes a while before I find a genuine supplier and sometimes companies (such as Adobe and Microsoft) try to enforce retailers to join their official retail partner programs (and shut down those who are not part of them)… which is not strictly legally enforceable or required (it's vague)…… but I hesitate to stir the pot here!

I've paid about $11 for a genuine MS Win10 key from… Germany I think it was. Same as you - genuine retail key from discarded/sold PC, resellable and transferable under EU laws.

So if you can get close to that, I'd say go for it - a lot of people might feel more comfortable buying from an Aussie seller than an overseas one.

    • That's what they tell you in the listing haha. It's actually an MSDN key however and not retail, can't be added to an account.

I can sell OEM/MSDN keys for maybe $5… if I turn a blind eye to the source of them…

      • What's involved in adding it to an account? I've been using this one for over a year now without issues. Plus - it's not implausible. People discard/recycle computers all the time, and the less tech-savvy wouldn't separate the Windows licence from the physical system - effectively free Windows keys.

But I think only EU has strong enough consumer laws so that the keys are re-sellable and transferable without restriction so that MS can't tie a key to a specific motherboard/system/etc.

It's linked to your Microsoft account.

They had a landmark case in the EU a few years ago on the resale of software (first sale doctrine). Your key will be 100% fine - it's technically possible it's from a recycled computer, but most sellers (probably all sellers) have developer accounts (usually Chinese) that can generate literally unlimited keys, that's why they are so cheap. They work just fine though, as long as they get used quickly before Microsoft shuts down the developer account and (sometimes) blocks the keys.

There's NO WAY they are all recycled. Simple economics will tell you that supply and demand would boost the prices…. (limited supply, huge demand)

  • What's your pricing like for retail win10pro keys?

Considering anything that didn't come out with a windows 7 key (upgradable to 10) is way too old to be worth keeping I don't really see too many people outside of enthusiasts buying keys.

  • Interested to know!

  • Sounds interesting! Can you explain the difference between OEM / MSDN / 'genuine retail' keys, and the pros/cons of each? I'm a little confused already.

Also out of interest, how often do people buy from you on ebay?

    Thanks.

  • Max I'd pay is $10 for a key.

  • Forgive me but don't discarded Windows 10 OEM PCs and laptops have the key embedded in BIOS and it activated during installation. These keys can be viewed however they can't be transferred to another machine (it won't activate)

What kind of Adobe prices could we be looking at through you?

    • Interested to know about the Adobe stuff as well.

AutoKMS.exe is always free, but borderline legal.
Tho if they key was $10 or less I would be willing to buy.

  • So the MDSN keys can't be linked to a Microsoft account? I have bought keys before but feel kinda sus about whether I will lose the key or expire.
